The Official Steelers v. Bengals Hype Thread (1 Viewer)

pghrob

Hail to the Chief
This is the rubber match the Steeler fans wanted. Yes the Bengals won the AFC North, but they will pay the price the weekend.Chad Jonson had some nerve treating our Terribel Towel like a bib. Then he went on to talk about how the Bengals are the new leaders in the AFC North after 14 years, like there is some new sheriff in town. That's a bunch of bull...wait 'til the Steelers and their faithful brigade sweep down into Cincy next week and show them where they can stick all their talk of new leaders of the AFC North! Here we go Steelers, HERE WE GO! :towelwave:Yoi! Double Yoi, Hmmmm Haaaah! The Steelers and their Terrible Towels are coming to Cincy! Hide the women and children, this is gonna be an ugly beat down. The Bengals and their fans must be taught a lesson! :towelwave: :football: :towelwave: :football: :towelwave: :football: :towelwave:

One thing that does concern me about this week's game is our secondary. Joey Harrington was able to lay 3 TD passes on us. Housh and Johnson have a height advantage and can easily go up to grab a "toss up fade".The Steelers agressive defense has to be disciplined to avoid getting pulled into play action...especially with Chris Perry due to come back. I can see Troy spying the backfield and then all of a sudden our corners are locked in one on one.I hope coach Cowher and **** LeBeau work on that this week. I am thinking they will since the Lions exploited them week 17.

IMO its the worst game Cinn could have had..Pitt should roll...Parker and Bettis 200+ 3 TD's....Not good

Bengals Rush Defense is not good. Steelers Rush Offense is Very good.Palmer and the Offense better score and score fast to make the Steelers switch to the passing game or it iwll be a long off season for the Bengal Fans.

Colts fan here...Stillers should roll the Bungles this week. I've seen both teams in person and it isn't even close! This also means the Colts would get the Stillers next week. I can't wait to hear how loud the dome is pumped with noise!!!

As you gentlemen are saying, the key for the Steelers is to dictate the pace of the game. Slow it down, play smash mouth football, where we control time of possession. If we do that, limiting Ben to 15-20 pass attempts and run the ball like we can, then there should be no problem.Running game + defense = Steeler Victory.

As a Steeler fan, this game worries me a lot more for the reason pgh mentioned. If we can't get pressure on the qb, Palmer will light our secondary up. I actually think this game will be pretty close and may even come down to the last play. I love how the media and fans in Pittsburgh seem to be assuming that the Bengals have already accomplished their goals by just making the playoffs. Thats a load of bs--they're a professional football team and WILL come out ready to play on Sunday. I'm all too familiar with what happens to the Steelers when they get complacent (see all their home AFC championship losses). I hope we're not being set up for yet another disappointment.

We have suffered some serious let down these past 15 years. I like the fact that there are no home games for us this year. Hopefully the urgency that has existed the past 4 weeks will remain. Our Steelers and our head coach need to get this "Can't win it all" monkey off their backs. The Steelers have the talent and the experience. Now it is time to take care of business.

People forget that the Steelers lit up the Bengals defense in their last matchup, and they forget how close the game was. The Steelers had almost 500 yards of offense that day but turned the ball over 4 times and gave up a kickoff return for a TD. It was only a 7 point loss, and it was a 7 point game heading into the 4th quarter DESPITE all the turnovers. The Steelers ran for well over 200 yards in their first matchup and passed for almost 400 in the second one. I'd guess they'll try to establish the running game early against the Bengals. If you believe the Steelers can't stop Palmer and the Bengals' offense, you might want to go back and check out how Palmer did in their first matchup. It wasn't pretty. If the Steelers run the ball well and control the clock, they'll win again. If they don't, it'll be more like the shootout that the Bengals won a month ago. The Steelers need to prevent turnovers next week to win the game. And they will. They'll contain Palmer - not as well as they did in their first matchup, but enough. The Steelers will run for 150+ yards and Roethlisberger will be his normal, efficient self. Another win in Cincy for the Steelers.Steelers 30, Bengals 20

Turnovers and Special Teams really did kill the Steelers in the second matchup. There was a point where the Bengals scored 3 TDs on a total of 76 yards due to the very short fields caused by the turnovers and poor special teams play. The Steelers special teams has been outstanding the past three weeks. If the Steelers can continue that trend and hold onto the ball they should be able to beat the Bengals.

Very good game not sure how this battle will play out. Each of these teams are very good football teams. Can you say ot

steelers are somethin like 25-0 in the last few years when they get 100+ yards rushing. So I think if we get 100+ yards then we got 90% chance to win

Let's see - 2 meaningless games for the Bengals (true they had a shot at #2 with the Buffalo game) where they rested a lot of players for a lot of the time, especially with the KC game. Steelers let Joey friggin Harrington throw 3 TDs in a game that's must win for them and must get ready to golf for the Lions. I think it's a little early to be burying the Bengals and the line is WAY out of whack. We just have to make Roethlisberger be your offense. True he threw for 300+ in that second game but he also threw 3 picks. The first Cincy drive will very important to how the game plays out - if we can put the pressure on Pitt to score early the turnovers will follow. It'll be a good game, but we'll be heading to Denver for week 2 of the playoffs.WHO DEY! PS - Colts fan enough with the nickname bs, it's played and it's over, just like your being the punch line to every Mel Kiper joke at draft time - and if I as a Bengal fan have to worry about our regular season finish then you're in the same boat as us.

Cincy will win this game and establish themselves as an AFC powerhouse.

The reason?

Carson Palmer.
Cincy may reestablish themselves as an AFC powerhouse, but it won't be this year. The reason?

Carson Palmer's groin

Duly noted...best of luck to you and your squad mates...don't be a stranger to posting after Sunday, K?Buh Bye.

I wish we could get some non biased opinions here. I am trying to decide between Chad and Hines in a playoff league and all these stinkin who deys and towels arent being objective at all. The only non biased quality info here is:Cowher has never won a road playoff gameSteelers are "like" 25-0 when they rush for 100+ yardsAnyone with a Steelers logo or a pic of Art Rooney as their avatar kinda scares me when trying to make a decision. And any person that ends their post with "if we can stop the run" is clearly a bengal fan. Cant we get some non biased breakdown here?

Not a stranger :)though my overall post history comes in fits or starts (as you can tell if you look me up)Will have plenty of happy posts for the years to come regardless of sunday's outcome as the team finally has it's act together (witness the cap-friendly signing of Palmer through '14). Was surprised to realise how much cap room we/they/them/us have going into next season ;)Oh btw they drafted Klingler and Akili (and big daddy and on and on), we drafted Palmer and Levi and Chad and Rudi and... ;o)-QG

Steelers need to control the clock and the game with their brand of football. If they establish the run and take care of the football, this game won't be close. Otherwise, the Bungles may just advance. :football:

Well, I'm a Bengals fan but I drafted Ward in round 4 (which was a great pick and helped me make my league final). I think the true answer you probably can't go wrong either way. Chad's more likely to bust a long play than Ward and the Steelers do figure to keep it on the ground more, so Bengals fandom aside I think Chad is the better start, but not by much. Chad was 4/94/0 and 5/54/0 in the two games. Ward was 3/35/1 in the Steeler win and 9/135/2 in the Steeler loss. So that does go against what I'm saying but looking at the overall numbers on the year against essentially the same schedule, Chad's numbers are better in terms of catches and yards (actually a bigger difference than I thought).Player Att Cmp Yd TD Int Rate Att Yd Avg TD Recpt Yd Avg TD FL FPTS Johnson, Chad WR CIN 0 0 0 0 0 0.0 5 33 6.6 0 97 1432 14.8 9 0 112.0 Ward, Hines WR PIT 0 0 0 0 0 0.0 3 10 3.3 0 69 975 14.1 11 1 102.0 Of course as this is a hype thread all the messages should really be Who Dey's and Towelies anyway :) Good luck in your playoff game.-QG

Bengals need to expose the Steeler's secondary and force Ben to turn the ball over when on defense. Both are very possible. Who Dey :boxing:

"If you're starving and someone hands you a cracker, you're going to be like that's the best cracker I ever had. That wasn't no ordinary cracker. Was that a Ritz?" As a Bengals fan, I can't help but feel like Eddie Murphy during that skit. It's just been so bad, for so long, that it's hard not to be unrealistic. Much the opposite of Steelers fans where you have had little to be humble or modest about in the past decade and therefore it's hard for you to be so. The Bengals, obviously much improved, have a difficult matchup. Clearly, their best shot at winning is in a shoot out, but even that's no guarantee based on Pittsburgh's offensive numbers in the last meeting. Pitt will come in, run Bettis (who I know is a really good person, but I can't wait for him to retire) as much as they can and try to keep the ball as long as possible. If it's low scoring, not good for the men in stripes. All I know is I'll be there, I'll be pleasantly intoxicated, and enjoying my first playoff game since I was 13.

The Bengals got their act together after hiring an ex-Steeler coach. :D

This is why the Steelers will beat the Bengals.

Time to change the dial?

Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson suggested the Steelers' run of dominance in the AFC North had ended after the Bengals won, 38-31, Dec. 4 at Heinz Field.

"It's time for a change," Johnson said after that game. "It's like going from a black and white TV to a color TV. It was Pittsburgh; it's Cincinnati now, and it'll probable be that way for a while now."

Reminded yesterday of what Johnson said, Jerome Bettis replied, "Well, he'll get a chance to prove it come Sunday."

Every time I read that kind of talk it emboldens me as a fan to cheer my beloved Steelers on to victory. I hear all the fight songs from years gone by. There are alot of Steelers fight songs.

You remember the lyrics.

Stiller Fight Song (70’s version)

Da-Da-Da-Da-Ta-Da - Charge!

We're from the town with that great football team,

We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Chuck Noll and all his friends are all on the field.

Go out and get them Steelers.

Bradshaw, and Rocky, and Franco and Lynn,

We love you Pittsburgh Steelers.

It's been many years in coming,

just keep that Steelers machinery humming

Defense, Defense, make them scramble, intercept that ball.

Defense, Defense, keeps the Steelers always best of all!

Mean Joe, Mean Joe, do your thing against the other team,

You start from year to year, we're so glad you play here,

Now join with me, and sing the Steelers cheer-er-ER!

We're from the town with that great football team,

We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Winning's a habit, not only a dream,

Go out and get them Steelers!

Gerela's Gorrilas are here for the show,

and so is Franco's Army,

It's been many years in coming,

just keep that Steelers machinery humming.

Offense, Offense, take that football whole way up the field!

Offense, Offense, let's score and score and never ever yield!

Franco, Franco, can you believe we have a running game?

The Steelers are so great, and so hard to overrate,

Good things, will come, to those who work and wait.

Charge!

Year: 1995 (Revised)

Da-Da-Da-Da-Ta-Da - Charge!

We're from the town with the great football team.

We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Winning's a habit, not only a dream.

Go out and get them Steelers.

Yancey, and Andre, and Gary are here,

And so is Capers' Army.

It's been many years in coming

Just keep that Steelers machinery humming

Defense, Defense, Make them scramble, intercept that ball!

Defense, Defense, Keeps our Steelers always best of all!

Greg, Kevin, Woodson [something... ]

They're back from year to year,

We're so glad they play here,

Now join with me, and sing the Steelers cheer-er-ER!

We're from the town with the great football team.

We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Winning's a habit, not only a dream.

Go out and get them Steelers.

Cowher, and all his friends are all on the field,

Congratulations Steelers!

It's been many years in coming

Just keep that Steelers machinery humming.

Offense, Offense, Barry's running, all the way up the field!

Offense, Offense, Neil and Green have everyone so thrilled!

Morris, John L, We've proved that we have a running game.

The Steelers are so great and they play the best of all,

To take our Pittsburgh to the Super Bowl!

This is how most Steeler fans likely feel, think, adore their Steelers Steelers Nostlagia Essay

Unlike the essayist, I love the "Here We Go" McKees Rocks Sounding, drunk on Iron City Beer seeming fight song of the last 5-7 years!

Here we go Steelers,

Here we go....

Pittsburgh's goin' to the Suuuperbowl!!!

:towelwave: :towelwave: :towelwave:

Beat those Loud Mouth Bengals!!!

:towelwave: :towelwave: :towelwave:

That was born and raised in Pittsburgh!

Pitts secondary isn't good enough to stop Cincy and their offense isn't good enough to keep up. Cincy wins.

The key to me is Big Ben is struggling again. He did not look good in the regular season finale and hasn't had a really great day in many games. Pair that fact with he is going up against a defense that picked off QBs a whopping 31 times in 2005. The last time these two met, Ben threw 3 INTs. I expect more of the same. Bengals win.

BGP- Got to be a killer to watch the Browns two biggest rivals duke it out in the playoffs.

I remember watching Prime Time and seeing the highlights while TJ Howdoyourspellit, or whatever is cleaning his shoes with a Terrible Towel.

I turned to my wife and told her that he would most certainly be made to regret that the next time they played. Well that game is at hand, much sooner than TJ thought it'd be too.

I expect the Steeler D to break TJ and his sound byte counterpart in half with big hit throughout. The NFL top ground game will be geared up to the max. Bettis looks very driven of late.

New leaders my ### - welcome to old school playoff football! Steelers win BIG!
