I just gave you four really good casual food places. Im sure theyd be happy to have you overpay.

And asking random individuals on the internet whose tastes you don't know is never going to be as reliable as a yelp or urbanspoon consensus. Unless it's a chef, like nittylion.

Just food? Taco Bamba (super casual by the reigning DC chef of the year), Rice Paper (Vietnamese), or Bangkok Golden (Laotian/Thai), all in Falls Church and all among best in DC area. Where did you go last time? There is a ton of great food in the area, so bummer it didn't work out.

Best pizza in the area is Pupatella in Arlington.
I appreciate the suggestions, seriously I do, but I guess I wasn't describing what I'm seeking very well. Taco Bamba is fast food in a crowded (kind of dirty) corner. I've eaten there, alone, and was fine with it, but I'm taking people out who want to sit down and have a drink, great food, some laughs. Pizza, tacos, fast food, no. Two in my crew, the ladies fwiw, do not like Asian. So these might be great but too low budget or wrong food. I'm happy to drop a grand on 7 people in Annapolis tomorrow, if the wine is overpriced enough. I just don't want to have to dress up for a meal. We'll do that in DC the night before leaving. I would have been happy to drop $500 on 4 today, including a couple good bottles of wine. Taco Bamba, not what I'm looking for. I'm trying to impress people with my fbg connect here and it's become a standing joke.

We ended up at Legal Seafood in the mall at Tyson's. Eesh.

Gotcha. I'm no help there. Ramsey Hunt and nittylion are the ones I'd want to hear from.

But oof on the Legal.

Come to think of it, Pearl Dive would probably get it done. Though it's in the city.

I'm back. Been here since the 23rd. Saw a laughable ballet last night. Will be part of the festivities for the Military Bowl in tomorrow. Having a lovely holiday in this tropical clime. Leaving on the 30th. I just declined a fool's run to Philly for cheesesteaks. Californians traveling with me thought that was a good use of a day. Um, no. So me and the smart ones are free of the dumb ones today. Last time I did this you local fbgs earned a reputation w/my locals for giving poor dining advice. It's Sunday. I'm going to Ocelot for some beers to ship west. Other than that, I'm free to show off your great advice for lunch or an early dinner. Casual, easy parking and awesome food, thanks. Price is not an issue. Cheers.
Did you make it? I wa there for a bit tonight. I'll be there all night tomorrow. Fly back to SD Tuesday.

Lewnes Steakhouse is pretty awesome in Annapolis. I don't know if it is open for lunch though.
Opens at 4, dress code dressy.
Sorry. Thought it was worth a shot.

...I don't know much about the Fairfax area, and better with Arlington/Alexandria. The Great American Restaurants chain is generally decent quality, and I think they have some restaurants out that way like Sweetwater Tavern.

If you want to drive closer in, you could try something like Ray's The Steaks in Arlington. Dress code is casual; should be okay as long as not in a t-shirt and shorts.

Maple Avenue Restaurant is a good place in Vienna. Small dining room, though, so might require reservations and probably not good for larger groups.

C.C., this is the first I've seen your post. Been a tough day, woke up to text that close local friend, a football friend, had passed. Still in quite a funk...

If it's not too late for Vienna, Clarity Bistro is exactly what you're looking for. If you have a less than satisfactory meal there, I'd be very surprised. Rock Star pairing of culinary talent in that kitchen. For exactly what you are looking for (expense account dining where you actually feel like you ate cuisine worthy of expense account prices rather than expense account rents), there's not that much to be had in that area.

http://www.clarityvienna.com/

Legal Seafood. Damn, that's bad...and too bad. You were right in the neighborhood of 2941. Bertrand Chemel. Hard to beat.

http://www.2941.com/menu-dinner-10-1-15.html

I have no complaints about Maple Avenue Restaurant, but I don't think it's what you're looking for, but Tim Ma's other restaurant in that general area, Water & Wall, might be:

http://waterandwall.com/... then again, probably not upscale enough...but it's what's around.

This is the best in (ETA) that general area, but lately, the reviews have not been superlative, as they absolutely must be, when you aspire to greatness. (ETA) Oh, crap, I forgot you didn't want to dress up.

http://restauranteve.com/restaurant/

I'm really distracted by the events of today. I'm going to post this and then go back and read your other posts, and post again.

I have never, and I mean never, ever, failed to find what people are looking for in terms of dining in the DC area, especially when price tag isn't a deterrent, and I'd really like to know if anything I may have recommended during your last visit didn't live up to expectations, because I take that kind of thing personally, and I know my Chef peers in the area do the same...

...caveat, you are catching me at a tough time, all things considered...but I probably can use the distraction, as it's just me and (since you bring up a somewhat non-mainstream grape like Arneis (Roero, please, you little rascal) a bottle of Assyrtiko (Santorini) just whiling away the hours remembering my friend as he'd want it: with a football game on...any football game. Ugh...

You could try this pop-up, by Top Chef Alums Mike Isabella/Jenn Carroll. Mosaic District, Fairfax. They are talented Chefs with an incentive to overdeliver seeing as how this is the test-drive for what's planned on being the premier restaurant in S.W. (yikes!) DC. Mike is somewhat the definition of Celebrity Chef, but does take his food very seriously, and I'd wager that under circumstances like these, he'd be quite motivated to be swinging for the fences.

It really, really sucks that Gypsy Soul didn't work out in this space. Long story. RJ Cooper is a culinary talent, and personality, of immense proportions, but he really, really needs the kind of arrangement Roberto Donna finds himself in now - with a business partner that's over-proficient at handling the business part, so he has literally nothing to do but purchase and cook anything he damn well pleases...he's a damn genius with ingredients.

We're losing this at the end of the year. Very sad.

For your last night in DC, when you want to dress up, and do it in style, go here:

2941 is THE favorite of the Northrop folks, walking distance from offices. So this is fantastic stuff nittany. Thank you thank you. I'm off to Annapolis so won't be posting much but I will report back in a day or so after trying one of these suggestions.

Too bad I missed you this trip. Would have liked to show you around. We're normalaly closed Tuesdays amd Wednesdays, but open this week for holiday hours. My favorite IPAs on tap right now are Planets Align (think Alpine Nelson), Profits of Pride, and See the Light. Imperial Porter on Nitro is awesome too as is both reds. Gallows is an Imperial (malt forward. Think Dluble *******) and Stumbled is nice and hoppy. Hope you have a good time.

anyone use uber on new years eve? whats the typical wait time? ill be in reston

I have never used uber before

Never used it on New Year's and am wondering the same. Obviously depending on what time you want the car to pick you up you can count on surge pricing. I need to go to/from Arlington and Kingstowne - or maybe just home from Kingstowne. Wouldn't shock me to see surge pricing three times normal pricing.

I used uber last year NYE to get to/from Georgetown/9:30 Club.. no issues at all, uberX was available at no hike

I'm going to have to get back out there to try some of the new ones.

Cool to see you guys got named Best New Brewery by the Washington Post.

What are some good restaurants/sports bars that have some hot waitresses that would be good for a small group of guys. Preferably in the Alexandria/South DC area.

I can't really think of too many "breastaurant"-type places in Alexandria. Just across in Arlington, maybe you could start at Crystal City Sports Pub and then mosey on over to the "gentlemen's club," Crystal City Restaurant.

I could name some sports bars in the Old Town Alexandria area with good food and vibes. I'm sure they have some attractive waitresses, but not really why people go there.

Joe Theismann's in Alexandria. Wouldn't think that would be an establishment a 'Boys fan would want to go to :D

Best new brewery

In a year when breweries opened left and right and Alexandria’s Port City was named the Small Brewing Company of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival, this area’s best and most consistent beers came from a new brewery in Dulles. Ocelot Brewing, led by brewer Mike McCarthy and co-founder Adrien Widman, released a string of stellar IPAs, all beautifully balanced between a dry, West Coast-style malt backbone and rich, tropical hop flavors. The recent See the Light Imperial IPA was a wonderfully nuanced, full-bodied beer, and less than 7 percent ABV. The only knock against Ocelot is that the owners don’t like to brew the same beer more than twice a year. This means your beer is going to be fresh, but it also means your new favorite ale won’t be in stock for long.

I saw someone wearing an Ocelot t-shirt - had a picture of a schooner and above the pic it says My Only Friend. I must have one those.

I need to get out to the brewery but I'm not a hophead, I can't do the IPAs. Well, I can do the Black IPA, perhaps a Black Tiger. Imperial Porter (Plasticine) sounds good too.

And congrats!!

That shirt is my design! That's the name of our Imperial Stout. We need to brew that again soon. We have a bunch resting in bourbon barrels right now. All the beers are song lyrics. That one is from The Doors The End, so the short is in the Doors' font. We've been out of them for a long time. Maybe print some more for the next release.

Taps are defiantly hop forward right now. We are tapping a Mil Stout and a Wee Heavy in the next week or two. I'm a big fan of the Pilsner too. Forgot to mention that one earlier.

Very cool Sebowski. Make sure you bump this thread once in a while when you guys release new brews.

And keep up the good work!

Haha. Yeah I've been there a couple times, it's nice. I kept the Boys jerseys at home though :) .

BTW, don't know how many hockey fans are here but it's really worth tuning into the Caps right now. Just fun to see a team in any sport play at such a high level and they are a very likable bunch. Currently turning in another huge third period

Congrats! Very cool.

Ate at Barcelona tonight on 14th St, very good. Then saw St Paul and the Broken Bones at the 9:30 Club, very very good.

Metro is free between midnight & 3 a.m. tonight if any of you are out celebrating and are looking for commuting options.

That third period was nuts. But a costly win as Beagle is to have surgery. Looks like Backstrom is ok after also leaving the game last night. Carlson won't travel to NC tonight and will miss a few games.

Injuries starting to really pile up.

There is, however, one notable performer who has never played the 9:30 Club: rapper/actor Will Smith. In the late ’80s, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince were booked to play the F Street club. Hours before he was to perform, Smith “came in, took a look around and canceled two sold-out shows,” Hurwitz says. “He just didn’t think it was worthy.” In 1998, Smith was back in town and requested free tickets and backstage passes to an Oasis concert at the new club, a request Hurwitz swiftly denied. “The only answer was, ‘I don’t think so,’ ” he says.

^^ Westover Beer Garden

As of yesterday they had See the Light on tap but it could already be gone as when the kegs kick they usually replace with a new brew.

Cool, thanks. I'm a fan of imperial IPAs and was thinking about heading to Dulles for it, but might save me some time.

This is pretty cool.Anybody live nearby check this out yet?

A large, heavy ship, scuttled between 1775 and 1798, is being dug out of its damp grave at the site of a new hotel construction project in Old Town Alexandria.

Archaeologists found the partial hull of a ship at 220 S. Union Street, part of the city’s major redevelopment of the Potomac River waterfront. It’s on the same one-block site where workers two months ago discovered a 1755 foundation from a warehouse that is believed to have been the city’s first public building.

“It’s very rare. This almost never happens,” said Dan Baicy, the hard-hatted field director for Thunderbird Archeology, the firm watching for historic evidence during construction. “In 15 years that I’ve done this work, I’ve never run into this kind of preservation in an urban environment where there’s so much disturbance.”

I think it was only open to the public for a couple of hours yesterday morning. Wish I could have.
