The Perfect Draft from the 5 spot (1 Viewer)

I thought it was fairly obvious that these articles outline how to draft according to a general plan, but are not meant to tell you "draft player X in round Y."

I thought it was fairly obvious that these articles outline how to draft according to a general plan, but are not meant to tell you "draft player X in round Y."
More obvious to me that about 75% of the article outlines exactly which players to target at exactly which round or later....not sure how you would interpret that differently than "draft player x in round y."Not saying you should necessarily do that (I used to follow it as gospel and got burned enough that I no longer put much weight on it), but I think that's clearly the goal of the article.

I see the goal as: "You secured a great number of players that will outperform their draft position."

If Matt Ryan, for example, is now such a high pick that you have to draft him at the price of his upside, then he no longer meets the profile for this "Perfect Draft" and you should slot in Cutler or Griffin or whoever you think still represents value.

Seems like FBG is damned if they do, damned if they dont in this situation. If they release the Perfect Draft articles early like this year, then their sleeper QB pick can potentially explode, making the article irrelevant. If they release it late, it ends up being after lots of people's drafts.
Which is why I don't ever mention FBG to anyone (sorry FBGs)
They just need an early one and then a rewritten late one right?

Had my draft last night. Didn't follow this to a tee as I took my QB1 in round 4. Next tier of QB's were going, and I needed upside in a 6 point TD league. You never know until they play for real, but really liking this draft:

Just finished my draft. 12 team redraft, 1 QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 flex, K, D/ST. 6 point all TD's, no PPR,...

1) Calvin Johnson

2) Marshawn Lynch

3) Fred Jackson

4) Michael Vick

5) Darreen Sproles

6) Eric Decker

7) Eli Manning

8) CJ Spiller

9) Malcolm Floyd

10)Toby Gerhart

11)Anquan Boldin

12)Rob Bironas

13)Steeler D

14)B Pettigrew

15)Austin Collie

So get to start Vick or Eli. Couldn't believe Eli lasted where he did. 2 owners rolled the dice without QB's and one of them now has Luck as his QB1. I really like the Seattle and Buffalo running games, so having Marshawn and the FJax/Spiller combo for my 2 RB's should be great, while Sproles as my flex and Gerhart there if ADP struggles or gets reinjured could be a lottery ticket. Megatron + Decker (nice game today) + Malcolm Floyd (I believe will be SD's WR1), with Boldin as my WR4. Steeler D came CHEAP. Honestly IMO my best draft in years. Glad I didn't start with Brady.

Well had my draft yesterday and went with Brady as my 1st pick.

Looking at that article, not one of those players aside from Calvin in the 1st were drafted that low!

Seems the guys in my league must be reading too much here and picked things earlier.

Heck Rashad Jennings went in the 7th round

Kevin Smith in the 5th

Martin in the 3rd...

Just finished our 14 team ppr redraft. Start 1qb, 1rb, 1wr, 1te, 1pk, 1def, and 2 flex spots rb/wr/te. All TDs are 6 pts. 11 round draft with 8 starters and 3 bench slots.

Rd 1 - Lesean McCoy

Rd 2 - Jimmy Graham

Rd 3 - Ryan Mathews

Rd 4 - Percy Harvin

Rd 5 - Philip Rivers

Rd 6 - Ahmad Bradshaw

Rd 7 - Pierre Garcon

Rd 8 - Jay Cutler

Rd 9 - Reggie Wayne

Rd 10 - Patriots D/ST

Rd 11 - Matt Bryant

Thinking my lineup will look like this:

QB - Rivers (top 10 QB)

RB - McCoy (top 2 RB)

WR - Harvin (top 11 WR)

TE - Graham (top 2 TE)

Flex1 - Mathews (top 10 RB currently...possibly top 5?)

Flex2 - Bradshaw (top 20 RB)

PK - Bryant (top 5 K)

D/ST - Pats (the more points our defenses give up, the less points they can max. Pats play in a weak division. Most other defenses were reached for much earlier)

Bench - Garcon, Wayne, Cutler

I just read this article is the subscriber section. I enjoyed the article, but was perplexed by the final roster at the end of the article. You must start a qb, 2 rb, 3 wr and a te. Here it is for the people that didnt read it:Rd 1 - Pick 5 – WR Calvin Johnson, Det/5 (ADP = 5)Rd 2 - Pick 20 – RB Jamaal Charles, KC/7 (ADP = 20)Rd 3 - Pick 29 – RB Ahmad Bradshaw, NYG/11 (ADP = 35)Rd 4 - Pick 44 – RB Doug Martin, TB/5 (ADP = 47)Rd 5 - Pick 53 – WR Brandon Lloyd, NE/9 (ADP = 57)Rd 6 - Pick 68 – QB Matt Ryan, Atl/7 (ADP = 69)Rd 7 - Pick 77 – RB Donald Brown, Ind/4 (ADP = 80)Rd 8 - Pick 92 – WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oak/5 (ADP = 99)Rd 9 - Pick 101 – WR Titus Young, Det/5 (ADP = 107)Rd 10 - Pick 116 - TE Brent Celek, Phi/7 (ADP = 126)Rd 11 - Pick 125 – WR Randall Cobb, GB/10 (ADP = 147)Rd 12 - Pick 140 – RB Rashad Jennings, Jac/6 (ADP = 149)Rd 13 - Pick 149 – TE Dustin Keller, NYJ/9 (ADP = 150)Rd 14 - Pick 164 – Buffalo Bills Defense, Buf/8 (ADP = 181)Rd 15 - Pick 173 – QB Jake Locker, Ten/11 (ADP = 192)Rd 16 - Pick 188 – WR Jerome Simpson, Min/11 (ADP = 200)Rd 17 - Pick 197 – RB Bilal Powell, NYJ/9 (ADP = 223)Rd 18 - Pick 212 – WR Emmanuel Sanders, Pit/4 (ADP = 232)Rd 19 - Pick 221 – Best kicker availableRd 20 - Pick 236 - RB Lamar Miller, Mia/7 (ADP = 257)So the team is ryan, Lockercharles, bradshaw, martin, donald brown, jennings, bilal powell, lamar millercalvin, brandon lloyd, heyward bey, titus young, cobb, jerome simpson, emanual sanderskeller, celekbills dbest kicker availablepersonally, I would not want this team. It is stacked at rb, but will suffer at TE and at WR. Matt ryan better put up 5k yards, or it will suffer at qb as well. Even at rb, charles is in a job share and bradshaw has a rookie that will steal touches. I do not claim to know more than dodds or pasquiano (i dont get paid to give my opinions) but am I crazy to think this is a sub par team? Let alone the 'perfect' draft. Is this your perfect draft?
I drafted from the 5 spot in a 12 team 0.5 PPR, 2 WR/2 RB/ 1 W/R/T. I love my team. My first two picks were exactly the same and I have a few more players from Dodds's team as well. I went:1. Calvin 2. Jamaal3. Doug Martin4. Darren Sproles5. Rivers6. Torrey Smith7. Vernon Davis8. Pierre Garcon9. Fred Davis10. Titus Young11. Rashad Jennings12. Jacquizz Rodgers13. Garrett Hartley 14. Pats D15. Fitzy The one thing I may regret is taking Fred Davis instead of Kevin Smith. It was between those two guys in the 9th. But I don't fully trust Vernon, and I still love my RB depth anyway, so I think I made the right choice.

It's occurred to me someone could have gone Brees or Rogers in the 1st round, and waited for McGahee, TRichardson, Martin, &/or Peterson, maybe gotten a damned good WR in the 2nd or 3rd, and would be doing extremely well right now.

Not sure if I have my ADP's right but...

...Anybody pull this off?

And could have come back with Gonzo at TE later too.

Anyway, working on a Lessons Learned for next year.

Love to go the rookie RB route, but last few years it has not panned out as well as Richardson and Martin so far this year.

One guy in my 12-team league did something like that. Rodgers in the 1st, Welker in the 2nd, then Sproles in the 3rd and Turner in the 4th. I thought those were bad choices at RB, but he's in 2nd place all the same.

I drafted in the nine hole, but pulled off something similar to this. Brees in the first round. Julio Jones and Brandon Marshall followed by MacaGahee and Spiller. I'm sitting at 6-2 so far and like my chances to make the play-offs.

I lucked into something similar to the above. I drafted 5th in a 10 team league where we start 1 QBs, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def and your flex can be any of the positions so I start 2 QBs. I got Brady at #5Demarco Murray in the 2nd roundAJ Green in the 3rd roundPercy Harvin in the 4thVernon Davis in the 5thWillis McGahee in the 6thPeyton Manning in the 7thLawfirm in the 8th

Manning in the 7th of a hyperflex? Wow.

Ya, I know. A lot of people are kicking themselves now. Basically my 2 QBs and 2 WRs are winning me the games. I'm not getting much out of the RBs and that's ok. I think people stayed away from Manning because of the surgeries and stuff. It was a gamble taking him because if he didn't work out I'd be hurting that's for sure.

In my only hyperflex leauge (office league, so FWIW) I had to take him in the 3rd. Still paid off big time.
