The Reason Bart Scott lost his cool (1 Viewer)

after some quick googling...

"Boy" (Blacks) Originated during slavery. Used to belittle blacks.

again, said ref is black too! I'm not saying Rolle shouldn't have a problem with it but I doubt the ref meant anything derogatory.
I don't often hear Jews calling each other "****" or the Irish calling each other "***". The term is derogatory no matter who is saying it.
How about black men consistently use the n-word to refer to other black men?BTW, "Whop" is reserved as a derogatory term for Italians, not Irish.
Maybe in your circle of friends. I live in a large black community and I simply don't hear that outside of the ghetto.

Imagine how angry Scott would have been if the ref called HIM boy?

That flag would have been tossed into the nosebleed seats.

BTW, the Orioles could use his arm out of thier bullpen.

You hear Irish call each other Italian? That's the worst insult ever!
Oops :)
I will consider it a good thing that you confuse racist terminology.

I guess they don't have rap music in your community.

Really? Stewart A. Smith(whom often plays the race card) stated it is common and accepted for older african-american males to refer to younger african-amercian males as boy.
If that happened at my workplace they would be fired on the spot. That is not accepted or common.
Considering this came from Smith I'm more than willing to think this is common. Smith stated it happens all the time and I believe he stated Rolle was acting like a little girl.
Where do you people live? You don't go around calling people boy, ***, ****, n*****, cracker. Where on earth is this common and acceptable? The ghetto?

Oh, and in before Stephen A(sshat) Smith starts yelling (And I mean yelling) the race card and getting on the phone with Jesse and Al....
Wrong....Smith was all over the Ravens for whining about this.
I may be wrong, but I believe the ref in quesiton is also African American, so I don't forsee race being an issue here.
Another sensible response. Quit trying to make this a race issue jonessed. I'm not saying it's right but the color of the person's skin that's saying the words absolutely dictates whether or not it's derogatory.

While this might be common in some circles, I hardly find it acceptable in a professional working environment. No matter how loud he may have gotten, Steven A Smith was wrong on this one.

It doesn't have to be a race issue. I wouldn't take too kindly to being called "Boy" either. It's derogatory.

True, but unnacceptable or innappropriate and derogatory aren't the same thing.

Its not a race issues as much as its a right/wrong issue. In this case, that ref was out of line.

Authority figures can and do say derogatory things to subordinates quite often.Just because you don't like it, doesn't excuse a hissy fit and whining about it to anybody that will listen.

You're right. If my boss got pissed at me and started calling me "Boy" on a regular basis I should be cool with that. Maybe I'll call her "Cracker #####" next time I see her to lighten the mood.

Rolle is the refs subordinate? How does that work? And when did it become acceptable to use derogatory slang towards co-workers?

The refs can penalize and kick Rolle out of the game.Rolle has not control over the refs.I say that puts the refs in charge and in authority over Rolle.

 Don't really get this. Is this an attempt at an insult because I don't agree with your opinion?

Something tells me he has a problem with authority figures in general.

If you used derogatory slurs in a work environment to commonly refer to your employees you are going to get sued or fired. I don't know any professional environment where this is acceptable. Perhaps you can enlighten us all on where you work and what derogatory terms you can use at will.

I noticed the same thing. I was about to call out the poster, but really dont want to waste my time in this argument.

Difference of opinions here.1. It may be insulting to some, but I don't see it as a slur. For example, an authority figure (my boss or a police officer) can call me "stupid" or "incompetent". Just because I might not like it, doesn't make it a slur.2. The refs and the players aren't peers
