@Jaysus

I just cleared out all the unanswered pms to shuke.

It's too bad the Prince stuff is limited to his releases on Warner Brothers.  His self-released albums from the 1990s and 2000s were sprinkled with some excellent songs and I'd love to hear some curated playlists of that material.
His estate says those are coming to streaming in a month or two.  Along with two albums full of unreleased stuff (always dicey with HPB) and two concert albums (never dicey).

So your playlists can start incorporating those deep cuts from The Rainbow Children soon enough.

anyone else having a problem with their 'shuffle'?  for the past week, when the player initiates, the same song starts it off and the subsequent tunes are all in the same order

somewhat rectified by rebooting player, but it's a hop in the ### when you're sitting there with your coffee and first cig of the day   :kicksrock:

ETA: grazie for the heads up on Prince ... missed the lil' guy

my sense is that they are constantly updating the software which will suddenly cause certain functions to break intermittently, though they will then fix them with another update.

thing is, i get intermittent (once a month or so) prompts instructing me to restart to update the player... i'm always sure to firm up immediately.

and, interestingly enough, this never happened when i was freeloading the gig (Premium member now).

right, I get messages all the time that it is installing updates when I re-open it.  My theory is that they update so much for new functionality that it inevitably breaks other things as a result.

Not to speak for LBL, but what I think he is saying is one update might break something (ie causing shuffle to act up), but it gets fixed on the next update.

FWIW, I haven't experienced your issue, but I have a lot of playlists I rotate through so I wouldn't likely notice, unless it was for an extended period of time.

Edit to add, Larry beat me to it.

Anybody know how the selection/service differs between Spotify, Amazon, and Google? I just did the year with Amazon because, well, throwing money at Amazon is just a habit, but I have no idea how it compares with other services. Well, and paying a year at a time with the 10% back on AMEX means it costs about $6/mo.

Can you download to devices with the other services?  I uploaded my entire library to Google just as a back up but, at the time, it only allowed me to download my own stuff to two devices over the lifetime of my account.

I get ad free YouTube with Google Play service, which is kind of nice.

I haven't downloaded anything, but Amazon gives the option to download anything as far as I can tell.

I'll have to look into it again then as we are already have prime.

Thanks
It's a little confusing because they offer two different services. Prime Music is free for Prime customers (no ads, but only 2 million songs). I actually used that one for a while without realizing they had a pay service. The pay service is called Amazon Music Unlimited.

The app/interface is the exact same except for the song selection, so Prime Music is a good place to start to see if you like it.

Only problem with  this, for me anyway, is that only one user can be on the account at a time.  The others have to be on airplane mode or offline.  Might be time to upgrade to the family account.
My wife, I and another friend all do family. It's pretty cheap.

Have to convince my wife and son to set up their own accounts.  Tokk my wife 18 months to finally start piggy backing on mine.

Anybody got a good Bluegrass playlist? Lady at work wants some Bluegrass in the rotation. I'm happy to oblige, but I don't know much about Bluegrass. FME, it seems about 10% of the songs are fantastic and the other 90% are dreadful.

I tried playing the Amazon Bluegrass station, and going the "save it or skip it" route, but lost patience with that pretty quickly.

If you go to browse and then Folk and Americana, you will find lots of playlists.

Can anyone explain why Spotify will have an album listed, but a couple of the songs are greyed out? Why would they get rights to a whole album, but the artist or whoever deny them one song?

I assume that it has to do with the writing and publishing credits for the individual songs.  The artist and record label who put out the album don't necessarily own the rights to all the songs.  If there were co-writers on some of the songs, they would have the right to control how it's used and could deny.

I think, anyway.

Great news for Spotify...

Peter Gabriel on Spotify

11th May, 2018

From Friday 18 May Peter’s solo music catalogue will start to be released on Spotify.

Though a number of Peter’s best-loved songs are already on the service this will be the first time that whole albums will be made available on Spotify.

The launch will see Peter’s first four self-titled albums (including the German language ein deutsches album and deutsches album), So, US and UP as well as the Best Ofs Shaking the Tree and Hit all go live.

It’s the start of a monthly roll-out of releases which will include the soundtrack albums, the orchestral / song-swap albums, live albums and B-sides and remixes all being made available.

If you already have a Spotify subscription why not follow Peter’s profile to get notifications when releases are live…

Is there some kind of setting where I can shut off  "crappy remakes of good songs".

I hate hearing the opening music of a song I like, only to have it sung by some nobody.

Hoping for help...

Have it on my phone. Made a playlist on which I have about 100 songs.

Want to delete a few. Cannot do so.

On-line, I saw I should click “Your Library”, tap on the playlist, tap the 3 dots on the upper right-hand corner of the screen, tap “Edit”, tap the red circle next to the song to remove and tap “Delete”.

I never see “Edit”.

You should do the 3 dot thing on the SONG within the playlist and there should be an option to "Remove from this playlist".  Just tried this now on my phone

I kind of feel this way about remixes. They always show up in my release radar playlist and they're almost never good.

Now that Peter Gabriel is on there. What artists are missing? Jay Z and some of Dr. Dre are the only 2 that came to mind.

Tool is a big one. Not sure if you're only interested in big names, but there is a ton of music I wish was on spotify that isn't. Spacemen 3, Joanna Newsom, John Zorn, lots more.

Newsom isn't on there anymore? She used to be. Dang.

Anyone with the family plan have any luck linking them to individual Amazon dots via voice command?

Have 3 kids each with their own dots and Spotify account, but the voice commands defaults to my main Spotify account. I can open Spotify on their Kindles and link it to the dot manually, but voice would be easier.

Can't you create a voice profile for them and then just link their spotify account to their voice profile?

I almost cracked the screen of my iPad punching forward when Weezer's remake of Rosanna started playing on my Release Radar this morning.  :hot:

(far too lazy to read this entire thread)

i have a car with a cd player, a phone without unlimited data and a desire to test out this Spotify service.

what do i need to do to make it work?

am i going to hemorrhage data playing music on my car radio via Spotify?
i think certain providers may be unlimited for Spotify (and certain other services)?  there is also an option to download for offline playing, but i don't know that much about it because i have unlimited data :moneybags:

There is a way to adjust music quality. Higher quality=more data. Set it to low, you won’t hear too much of a difference. Also you can download music when on wi-fi so it won’t use data when in the car.

i'm so far behind on digital music that i've only got about 100 songs on an iPod mini and those were loaded many years ago

my understanding was that Spotify was access to a virtually unlimited library of music and/or radio stations.  i've done exactly 2 minutes of research in to this product.  is that not correct? you have to download music to your phone and then stream it on your car radio?

The offline downloading is optional. It's there for people who don't want to use data constantly for streaming, and it's only an option if you have a paid subscription. If you're less concerned about your data usage you can just stream whatever you want without downloading anything.
