In my line of work I'm in charge of large scale projects, so I'm no stranger to opposing sides locking horns. But there's always at least one person in the room looking for a win win solution, and that seems to be missing here. It SHOULD be Obama, but he's the most partisan in the bunch. O should be taking a "godfather" role here and settling the dispute, but instead of putting himself above the issue he's chosen a side. It's another example of what a colossal missed opportunity his Presidency has been. With the popular wave he rode in on, he could have done so much. But he never understood that he's the president of ALL of the people. Not just Democrats. Not just unions. Not just for the global warming nuts. Everyone. But there's a faction of the country that he wants to crush, by any means necessary. I can't recall a president in my lifetime that had such a bloodthirsty vendetta against roughly half of the country.
There's room for compromise here, but it seems like anyone that blinks gets torn up like a porkchop in a dog kennel.
I find it unfathomable that we are still in CR mode. These discussions shouldn't even be happening. A CR to bridge the gap between budgets shouldn't extend to six years.
Is this Schtick?
From an outsiders view it looks like the Republicans are doing everything in their power to bend the system to their will. If this were allowed to happen and the Democrats gave in, do you not realize the shift in balance that would occur in your political system. All of a sudden Congress would have all the power to implement whatever they wanted come budget time. I think the US has a good system between Congress, Senate, and the Power of Veto of the Potus, but to allow this to happen would completely break the system.
I actually believe that Obama is leading by not bending an inch on this one. He has also given a few oppurtunities to Boehner to back down and save face, but he hasn't taken them.
I think the end game for the Republican party is to have this whole mess blow up on Cruz and the Tea Party with Boehner being the sacrificial lamb. The worse this mess gets, the more chance the party has to rid themselves of these radicals. The next round of Primaries should be interesting for the Republicans.
