The Tea Party is back in business! (1 Viewer)

Maybe the answer to this is more congress...dilute the crazies. Like issuing more stock to dilute ownership of a company. We need more representatives!

As the number of representatives we have approaches the number of Americans, the more we approach a true democracy rather than a representative one.

The Dems always using the "sky is falling" approach is tiring.

Using language like "terrorists" and "kidnappers" is disgusting.

Our political system is corrupt and dysfunctional and for anyone to hang their hats on one party over the other is frustrating.
Fearmongering is used by both sides to motivate people.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) restarted talks Tuesday evening on a deal to avert default, after House Republicans failed on multiple attempts to secure support for bill.
"Senator Reid and Senator McConnell have re-engaged in negotiations and are optimistic that an agreement is within reach," said Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for Reid.

"Given tonight's events, the Leaders have decided to work toward a solution that would reopen the government and prevent default," said Don Stewart, a spokesman for McConnell. "They are optimistic an agreement can be reached."

The two leaders had the makings of a deal before putting it on hold Tuesday in anticipation of possible House action.

So what this comes down to is that, sometime tomorrow or Thursday, John Boehner is going to be forced to make the decision that he's been trying to avoid for several weeks now- he needs to defy the conservatives in his party and allow the Senate deal up for a vote.
If you're a Washington business as usual type, I suppose. But the real answer is to shut it down.
I guess you think turning ourselves into a 3rd-world nation would be a refreshing change of pace.
I see it as a return to greatness personally.

That'll really show us.

Good point. Great countries often crash their economies in the service of fools.

Do people ever monger good things? Or is it always bad things like fear and hate?

Yes, we should all assume rational positions like the ACA is the worst thing in the history of the U.S., will end the U.S. as a country, and is (of course) comparable to slavery.

Maybe. At the end of the day, it'll end up better than ever though.

Let me get this straight, Tea Party wants to balance a budget but won't touch the sacred cow of Defence spending. They want all the poor people to suffer because, in their minds, these people are all minorities anyway. Even though food stamps and such are a small portion of the budget. Their bright idea is to F with our credit rating and bring the markets down which will only affect mostly rich white people. Is this about right?
They don't want to pay what they owe. Who does that remind you of?
The Jews?
Oh, thanks so much for this response. Now maybe I can get you banned.
comparing the tea party to the jews is bannable?
Other way round.

Sincerely,

A non-pracicing member of the tribe.

If it's that serious, hopefully Obama will come to his senses.

It's all a battle of ideology. We'll see how this chapter plays itself out.

It's interesting somewhat that the tea party gets a lot of flack for tactics they're using. From what I remember of our founding fathers, and the battles for independence, those folks used a lot of "uncouth" tactics to win their battles, and eventually carried the day leading to modern day America.

I can't hold too much against the Tea Party whacko's for trying what they're trying, and I certainly hope they fail miserably, but all is fair in love and war and politics.

It's like the Tea Party has a multi-stage membership test where you have to prove you know nothing and then promise if you should happen to learn something in the future you won't use it in an argument.

Except that when you boil it down they want to overthrow a legitimate democratic government instead of creating one.

No, they want to reshape a fraudulent and corrupt government essentially creating a new entity.

They don't really want to overthrow a government. They want to defund and overturn Obamacare, using whatever tools they have at their disposal.

Are they playing a riskier game than they understand? Yes. But certainly they're doing it for ideological reasons, and are willing to take extreme measures to fight against something they believe to be truly harmful.

I believe they're wrong of course, but oh well. It's annoying that they can do this, but not terribly surprising. It's an allergic reaction to change...something like an anaphylactic reaction to bigger government programs. All in all, perhaps we can inject a shot into the government and get past this...or maybe this will sieze up the government and kill it...who knows. I think the epi-pen will come out though and kick things back into order at the last moment.

So overthrowing the current government.

Just so I'm clear, if a deal isn't struck, the USA will become a 3rd world country?
And the real problem is the Tea Party. Not that a few hundred politicians in Washington essentially hold our lives in their hands.
Ted Cruz was overwhelmingly voted into office as one of two senators from Texas. The other Republician already in office will be kicked out next chance we crazies get the opportunity.

What's important here is that he knows who he isn't.

Hilarious. John Corwyn is one of the most staunchly conservative members of the US Senate. He has an extremely consistent record of both fiscal and social conservatism. But to Tea Partiers like Mr. Two Cents, he's a RINO.

It's sheer insanity.

"Insane" people who challenge those from their own party. "Crazies" who stand on principle. "Hostage takers" who cannot be bought off. "Terrorists" who will not back down.

This is the language of fear. Welcome to reality, progressives. We're not afraid.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you REALLY don't need to accuse other people of insanity.

When Republicans use that kind of language, Tim acts repulsed by it. But when Dems use it, Tim does not even flinch.

I've tried to avoid using words like "terrorist" because I don't think the Tea Party has ANYTHING in common with al-Qaeda. Despite my dislike of Tea Party positions, it's really insulting to make these comparisons of people who at their core are patriotic Americans.

But it would be insane for anyone who held politically conservative opinions to target John Corwyn of all people. I don't know what other word to use.
