The Tea Party is back in business! (2 Viewers)

For those that say shut it down. Sad that you hate this country so much you would tarnish its reputation.

Bottom line the Republicans are playing with people's lives, how would the founding fathers view shutting down the country.

Disappointing day to be an American when we let this country be impacted by a few Americans who are acting like spoiled children!
Is that where we're at now? We're un-American and hate this country?
Democrats love Obamacare more than they do America.
I'd say. Making exceptions for your cronies and buddies but not the rest of the American people proves it.

Tip O'Neill did it 7 times as speaker of the house.
I can see the response already: "That's different because...errr...he was our guy"
I am apolitical but hyperbole and hypocrisy needs to be called out.

My guess is it will be ignored on both sides of the aisle.

No I love his country when we have a government that works for the American public.

No where did I say that Republicans are unAmerican. I did say they hate America at this point, and more important they hate the President of the United States and that will cost this country.

And unlike Max, while I think the ACA in the long run is what America needs, I can also admit that it is not the perfect solution, but it is the first of many steps to get health care for everyone. Since when did healthcare become an entitlement? To me healthcare is not something that the rich should only have!

But hey I am just one person, what do I know!

I have a bunch of GS 5 and 6 employees that make in the 35-37k range. It's pathetic that anybody would take joy out of them losing a paycheck for a period of time.

You have an odd definition of entitlement.

There you go - make it SOUND like you care for the American people while also supporting screwing them at the same time.

This is one of the key differences in the debate, fiscal conservatives don't see healthcare as a right, but something you should provide for yourself if you want it. To be fair, far more than just the rich have healthcare under the old system. I disagree with the ACA but also disagree with what the House is doing tonight. Although I'll be much more alarmed if this nonsense takes place on the debt ceiling.

This has been a Republican talking point all day long. In fact, it's extremely different. Each of those shutdowns was over some procedural measure, if I recall correctly. Not one of them lasted over 2 days. Not one of them was tied to changing major legislation.

Why these days? ...
I assume the NSA's data parsing, social media linkage, etc. along with the black helicopters domestic drones are not impacted by the shutdown. Thanks!
To anyone that thinks this is a new development: Who's being naïve Kay?

So I was right? Is that what you are saying?

Yeah, that's sad, but no one is joyous about someone else losing a check.
You seem pretty stoked about it.

The local right wing radio host I heard today responded to the "inconvenience" of the financial impact for these government employees with "these are all 'non essential employees' so they shouldn't exist anyway". I didn't hear anyone disagree with this, though admittedly I was only in the car for about 20 minutes.

Votes have consequences - for both sides.
Isn't the entire point of this potential shutdown to try and eliminate the consequences of the votes that passed Obamacare?

You're going to have to explain this one. Seeing as the President ran largely on his record of having passed the ACA as did many of the Democrats on the ticket in 2012. They won. Plus, the ACA case was upheld by a majority republican SCOTUS. How can you think voting has consequences if the Republicans are going to shut down the government over an issue they've already lost?

Agreed. I'm all for healthy debate but the GOP lost. Finding new ways to vote on old issues is juvenile

Gotta love the "you'll negotiate with Iran but you won't negotiate with the House?" Talking point :lmao:

GB the staffer that thought that one up

judging from the countdown clock on CNN, I'm wondering if there will be a ball drop, balloons and confetti when midnight comes.

Just changed the title of this thread since we're only 5 minutes away.

Now the question is: who will blink first? I can't imagine that Obama would EVER agree to make substantial changes to Obamacare. Which means the Republicans will eventually have to cave, maybe- but what if they don't? How long with this take to resolve, and how many people will be hurt in the meantime?

Easy retort: That's cause they're more reasonable than the House.
Another easy retort: it's the House that won't negotiate, not the Democrats. The wingnuts created this whole situation, and now they're doing their usual routine of hostage-taking until they get their way. The Iran analogy is actually pretty apt for a couple of reasons.

I think I now understand why Tim starts so many threads. He wants to be able to edit the thread titles by fiat. Why do you hate democracy Tim?

Tea party and their supporters are insane crybabies. You want to change policies? Then win some big elections. Bunch of nutjobs. Shutting down the US govt because you can't stand the President. The health care plan is even Republican inspired (mandate and private insurance subsidies instead of single govt payer). Pity us moderate Republicans for having to deal with these idiots.

This is so stupid.
When I lived in Italy I used to make fun of the Italians for all their dysfunctional governments and chaos. We are trending in that direction, this elected government is horrendous. At least Congress is still getting paid, they're doing a terrific job for the American people.

Message to the Troops:

It's kind of minor compared to all the people being furloughed, but think about all the people who have booked vacations to Washington DC, planned to go with their families for months- it's all closed down.

Shameful. Why didn't this Health reform debate take place a month ago?

Because Congress took the entire month of August off!!!!!
