The Tea Party is back in business! (1 Viewer)

OpEd on Fox News site (yeah, I know, but there's only so many sites that come up nicely on a mobile device) suggests a winning hand for the GOP here is (paraphrasing) to agree to end the shutdown and raise the debt ceiling in exchange for one and only one concession. Specifically, the revocation of all waivers for Obamacare. That is, Obamacare moves forward and everyone is subject to it immediately.

Not a bad idea, actually. It would sell nicely on the news; "If Obamacare is so great, and you want it so bad, you got it. Let's just make sure everyone is included. No cronies, no exceptions." It would be a complete disaster, especially as the companies, unions, and other groups that have already received waivers wouldn't be remotely prepared for them to be revoked immediately.
Love how the best thing for the GOP is disaster for everyone.
Wat?

HE SAID THE WINNING PLAN FOR THE GOP WOULD BE TO MAKE ACA A COMPLETE DISASTER.

and Obama will make it worse, because you know his theory, never let a crisis go to waste.

wont make a difference anyway if you're a racist, sexist GOPer. this debacle is going to ensure another Dem victory in 2016. Hillary will be the next president.

There's not really anything you can say about this except '#### you, GOP.' They are completely abusing the role of congress to hurt millions of people in the US. There's no wiggle room here - it's pretty much that they are horrible, stupid, evil, and wrong. The only correct response is to write them off as irrational bad-faith actors who should really be restrained from having any sort of power in the future. Since we can't do that at this immediate time all we can say is '#### you.'

This is no longer about compromise with the opposition - the GOP is a hostile enemy that needs to be disbanded and destroyed by any legal means necessary. They are a completely anti-American organization, and should be regarded as such.

Good grief you're obtuse. IRS scandal, no pipeline jobs, etc. Need I go on...

I see the conversation in this thread is meaningful...Obama doesn't have to do anything. He didn't shut down the government. The problem isn't with the ACA, that already passed and became law, was confirmed as constitutional by the SC, and was upheld by a victory for the president. Don't like that all you want.

The problem is with the spending extension. The house can either pass it or not. If they attach riders to make it poison, then it just comes back to them.

Yes, because you haven't provided anything yet that was even wrong, let alone impeachable. IRS scandal turned out to not really be one outside of the wingnuts. Tea Party and Progressive groups got extra scrutiny for abusing their status, ummm good? Pipeline jobs?! GTFO of here, and I'm not even opposed to it. There IS no pipeline jobs outside of construction and how many is that 1000? Highway repair gets a better ROI. The GOP forced a vote over the nations largest fresh water supply, he correctly vetoed it. Even the Keystone had already made that concession. You know nothing about it.

Here's what I would do if I were Obama: I would agree to a conference. I would offer removing the medical device tax, and I would agree to remove the exemption for Congressional employees. I would then offer to allow Keystone to go forward. In exchange, I would ask for immediate up and down votes on the budget and the debt ceiling, and a promise from Boehner that in the future these would not be held up for the sake of ideological demands.
So you are saying the GOP should get Obama to cave and increase the deficit?
Yes, yes he is, but what did you expect.
Well it doesn't matter because they're not going to do it anyhow. As I wrote, they're interested in tearing down the Republican party. I am interested in tearing down the Tea Party. Two very different (and opposing) goals.

Thanks for that. I needed a good laugh.

So you think the so-called IRS scandal is an impeachable offense? Or that there is not a Keystone Pipeline? Wow, that is nuts

The GOP is playing so poorly at this game. If they feel that the ACA is so terrible, they should now give up and let things proceed.

If the ACA blows up, they say that they warned everyone and did every thing possible to stop it, including shutting down the government at their own peril.

If the ACA does not blow up, they will rightfully lose elections. The ACA is going into place no matter what. This is just pissing everyone off.

If that happens, someone will surely die.
Ted Nugent?
No, I'm thinking a progressive libtard will.
Libtard is allowed here?
So are death threats towards politicians apparently.

I'M PRETTY SURE HE DIDN'T MEAN THAT IT WOULD MAKE THE ENTIRE ACA A COMPLETE DISASTER FOR EVERYONE.

As an aside, Fox News really does a terrific job with cleavage, even their subject experts have huge racks. Well done Fox, well done.

Names or pics??

Was it JD Cupps? They basically became a softcore porn channel when they hired her.

Some lawyer chick they just had on. Before that they had Miss America and one of the NYC Housewives broads on there for a segment.

Approve

They're not really, but then again you probably think there is actually a sane Republican party separate from the tea-party. If there were, Boehner wouldn't have to cater to these lunatics.

He's afraid of them, in the exact same way Robert Taft was afraid of Joe McCarthy in the early 1950s. But believe me, there's a lot of Republicans who don't like any of this crap. They're silent right now, but they nominated John McCain even though Rush told them not to, and they nominated Mitt Romney even though the Tea Party hated him. The moderate Republicans are out there. They are disgusted by this.

It already is a disaster, what they are trying to do is prevent one. Obamacare was ramrodded through Congress without much thought or real debate. Lots of stupid still in there in addition to the inherent problem of being too socialistic.

And I am one of them. This is a complete joke and basically all the GOPs fault. They are basically killing our chances in future elections.

Obama has agreed to sit down with Republican leaders to discuss their differences.
So, I'm one of the lucky ones at a DC gov't department who has been deemed excepted. So I'm working today. I guess I'm grateful, because it's nice to be earning money (although whether I collect remains to be seen).

I just came from a meeting with management here in my Dept. The word they got from the WH is that they don't expect this to be over any time soon.

There was also a lot of discussion about the WWII memorial and the associated craziness with members of congress opening up the memorial. Folks here knew that it was coming and could instruct the the personnel appropriately. My guess is that there is something else planned for Friday at another memorial. We'll see.

Nice to see the shutdown is showing that at least 1/3 of government employees are unessential. I guess I would be pissed if I was taking a sight seeing trip to DC today, but the world isn't ending because of bunch of dilberts are at the bar instead of their cube today checking fantasy football sites.

I always wonder when I read this stuff if it is shtick or if people actually believe it. I'm terrified that it's the latter...

This will not have much impact on the upcoming election. But if the GOP insists on making Obamacare the central piece of their campaign, they are going to lose their arses. It is not the major issue. I have been saying this for 6 years now, but the GOP needs to focus on the deficit and stop being concerned with their obtuse position on no new taxes and no cuts to defense. Maybe this election they will listen, but I doubt it.

Of course the Democrats are equally guilty of running on stupid issues. Like this anti-Tea Party non-sense. It is completely meaningless dribble to play on the fears of the ignorant in the left-wing, but it does seem to rope in quite a few.

The GOP is no more likely to run on a focus on the deficit and stop being concerned with their obtuse positions than the dems are.
