The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 5: The Wire (141 Viewers)

In the last episode where Daniel “finds himself” playing dungeons and dragons with the geeks is so well don. He looks so happy and the geeks are so happy to be with a cool kid.
There were so many underrated moments, like when Mr. Weir was being the father figure Nick didn’t have (while ranking on Neil Peart) and Lindsey saw a different side of her usually crabby dad.

Just as a follow up, I should have said this earlier that the Neil Peart spite by Joe Flaherty in that above clip was an inside joke (as Rush fans likely know this).

Several years earlier during their 1984 Grace Under Pressure tour, Rush had fellow Canadian Joe Flaherty use his Count Floyd persona from SCTV to introduce the song "The Weapon". And Neil's idols were, of course, Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich.

Yep….I was LOL watching that clip knowing all that….damn I miss Neil.

So @Yo Mama is the least independent thinker here? That checks out.

Best taste as confirmed by a pole of FBGs.
Well, I know 12 of the 50. If I'm right I'll be a little shocked that they (2 shows) made the top 50 and if I'm wrong I'll be shocked that they didn't make the top 300. 28 of my shows didn't even make it and some of the shows I thought were very good were low on this list so it's been pretty wild.
Safe to say we never saw them and won't see them here.

I’ve laughed harder at moments of this show than I ever have for any other tv show. Loved how the cast played off each other and always tried to make each other laugh. I still love watching clips of this to this day. I had it at 13, but that probably underrates how much I enjoyed watching this show.

I always got sad when the ending credits song came on because it meant I had to go to bed - my parents let me stay up to watch this with them.

Another show I watched regularly in my youth. Burnett, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway and Vicki Lawrence were all amazingly talented. And the humor was easy for a tween to understand.

Saw some during first run, most all during syndication run. Maybe somewhat dated for the "never heard of it" crowd", but still a classic. Maybe the classic.

A Lost that stuck the landing. Damon Lindelof learned from his mistakes and gave us one of the most compelling and fascinating TV shows ever made. The first season was great despite too much focus on the cult whose members don’t speak (which doesn’t make for the most riveting television), and the second and third, mostly freed from relying on them, are some of the greatest seasons I’ve ever seen of any show.

And I might be wrong, but I think @kupcho1 and I had the same two shows at #3 and #4, but the order switched (The Good Place being the other)?
I’ll probably need to give this one another watch. Didn’t end up sticking with it after the first season and I don’t remember why.
Yeah, seasons 2 and 3 are much better.

I saw the first season of The Leftovers and liked it, but I didn't realize season 2 had started until it was over. Since the show is weird, I feel like I need to rewatch season 1 as a refresher. I remember the cigarette smoking people who wear white and the police chief, but I don't remember enough to move on to season 2 and 3. I do intend on watching all the seasons at some point.

Two pickles in one day!

This was the first “peak TV” series I watched. My cable package in the first half of the ‘00s did include HBO and I watched this when I could. Write-ups about it indicated it would be up my alley, and it was. My schedule was such that I couldn’t see every episode when it aired, so I would rent a season’s DVDs from Netflix to fill in what I had missed. Unlike with some other “peak TV” shows, each episode has enough of its own storyline that it’s still enjoyable even if you haven’t seen everything that came before it.

I came to care deeply about the Fisher family, as dysfunctional as they were, and that made the finale one of the most emotional experiences I have ever had watching a TV show.

Forgot I rated it that high, it’s a great show though and yeah definitely one of the best endings ever

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it but I really can’t recall any drop in quality and great acting performances all around

Six Feet Under should have been top 5 here. Damn.
I thought it was a lock for Top 20. As I said much earlier and as Scoresman reiterated, the single greatest finale ever. Stellar cast, amazing writing, perfect example of sustainable episodic storytelling - episodes that can both stand alone and further long-term narratives. First time I paid attention to David Krause, Michael C. Hall and many others, including Rainn Wilson. I had this #4, and even those three I rated above it have some noticeable flaws. I would have to get real nitpicky to find any here.

Six Feet Under is one of those shows which stays with you long after you finish watching.
Like others have mentioned, the ending is superb. It definitely lifts its ranking significantly.
My only criticism was the writing of the female lead characters, Rachel Griffiths notwithstanding.
Probably harsh, but the show is phenomenal.

Yeah, some shows are suffering from not as many people having seen them. I haven't seen Six Feet Under, either. The average rank for both Six Feet Under and The Leftovers is very high, but just not as many votes.

I have found this list fascinating at times. My wife and I watched the first season of The Leftovers and that was it . . . neither one of us really felt compelled to watch more. We watched Six Feet Under all the way through and enjoyed it, but neither one of us loved it to the point of ever recommending it to anyone else when it came to being asked for suggestions of things to watch. By comparison, we both loved Dexter and have watched it multiple times and enjoyed the sequel and prequel shows. That's not an indictment of either The Leftovers or SFU (both were well made, high quality, and entertaining). It just further illustrates the age-old axiom of different strokes for different folks.

I don't care for medical dramas but I didn't mind the few episodes I saw of this, mainly because of Hugh Lawrie.

The Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital doesn't exist. But the towns do -- Princeton obviously is home to the Ivy League school and Plainsboro is a neighboring town. After the show's run, Princeton Hospital built a new campus in Plainsboro and called it Princeton Medical Center at Plainsboro (now Penn Princeton Medical Center at Plainsboro*). So in a way, the hospital does exist now.

* - yes, it's now part of Penn's medical school/hospital system. Princeton U. doesn't have a medical school or hospital system.

It also doesn't get mentioned as much. When you get Max and ask people what you should watch, it's all Sopranos, GOT, Wire, Succession, maybe Curb. I have Max but it's expiring soon, and I'm currently in the middle of a few other shows, but I'll put it on the list for the future.

I've never seen it, but been following this thread looking for recommendations that I haven't seen. It is on Netflix. Didn't look to see if all 5 seasons were, but S1 is. Will add it to My List.
