The Uber experience gone bad... (1 Viewer)

Not sure you understand the laws, Quez
There's the speed limit, then there's real world driving.Going slower than the majority traffic flow, whatever speed that may be, does cause other drivers to get irritated, try to pass in bad spots, start driving aggressively, etc...
Not sure that defense would hold up in court if something would happen. "Your honor, I know the speed limit is 65 but traffic was going 80 and then this person was going 65 and I got irritated so I moved around her in the school zone. I'm not at fault your honor. The person going 65 is. Case dismissed, right."

 FYI, the speed limit is the maximum you're allowed to drive, it's not a minimum. So doing 60mph in a 65mph zone while in the right hand lane is ok. HTH.
Oh, so you're that guy?
And what guy would that be? Do tell.
You know exactly who that guy is. At least you are doing it in the right lane, which is OK by me for the most part. However if the highway is busy and you are going 5 below the limit, you are causing the potential for accidents as many people will be forced into lane changing to get around you. You not caring makes you that guy.

 No that's not me, but nice try Big Guy.

"Slower traffic keep right"

"Keep right pass left"

If it's a 3/4 lane highway and Grandmom wants to do 60 in a 65 zone in the far right lane, she has every right to do it. And you're the ####### for tailgating her.

5mph over is almost too slow for the fast lane on most interstates.
People are so dumb. Nothing worse than slow guy in the left lane. It's a passing lane schmuck. Move over.
Out of state/old people in Florida think it's the "safety lane". Maddening.
In Atlanta they have a "slowpoke" law:

Upon roads, streets, or highways with two or more lanes allowing for movement in the same direction, no person shall continue to operate a motor vehicle in the passing lane once such person knows or should reasonably know that he or she is being overtaken in such lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed. For purposes of this Code section, ‘passing lane’ means the most left-hand lane other than a high occupancy vehicle lane.
It applies even if the person overtaking you is going above the speed limit. Too bad it rarely gets enforced....

Do you have a link to this part?

Here's a link to the actual law.

It looks like they originally worded the law that you couldn't go below the speed limit if you were being overtaken in the 'passing' lane, but they changed that to just say you can't go slower than someone coming up behind you if you're in the 'passing' lane. With certain exceptions, none of which is the speed limit.

"Keep right pass left"

Yes, if you're an old person who finds it difficult to drive then, sure, drive a little under the limit in the right lane if it feels safe to you. But if you have normal driving skills then keep up with the pace of traffic.

I am an Uber driver in Houston. A couple of thoughts:

-While I may have been annoyed with OP for telling me how to drive, there is no way I would have done what his driver did. I am embarrassed for that guy. And depending on how drunk OP really was I probably wouldn't have

even been annoyed, just chalked it up to the alcohol.

-The driver app does give a suggested route when a destination is entered. It usually is a good route which I will normally follow, but I will always defer to the customer if they want to go another way. I may suggest an alternative route

to the customer if I know the way they want to go is not a good way, but again it is only a suggestion and I will go however they want to go.

-I get tips from about 10% of my riders. The norm is not to tip. I do not expect a tip. If someone offers me a tip I say that it is not required (that is what Uber tells us to say). They usually insist and I gladly take it.

-Tolls are definitely included in your fare and depending on the city, airport fees should be also.

OP should definitely give a 1 star rating and complain to Uber. I don't want that guy driving for Uber and ruining my reputation.

Except that there is a speed limit.
There is a speed limit. But if the driver coming up on you is going over the speed limit, you're still not allowed to stay in the passing lane and block him/her. If you do, you can be ticketed no matter how fast they were going. Of course, they can be ticketed for speeding, too. However, there are a few interstates around Atlanta, and the speed limits posted on them are usually 65 or 70. Most drivers go between 75 and 85 on them. The slowpoke law is supposed to get the people driving at or below the speed limit to move out of the left lanes so that everyone else can go past them and keep traffic flowing rather than causing huge backups behind them, which happens a lot. These tend to frustrate the faster drivers who end up taking bigger risks to get around the slower drivers and that's when accidents happen.

Uber is going down hill. Between no standard for cars these days and no standard for drivers they are a cab again.

True, they are very much like a cab except cheaper and way more convenient.
I could care less about the price half the time (not on my dime). I want a clean car and an English speaking driver.
Yep. And the ability to know where the driver is and when he/she will arrive. I HATE making a call then standing outside waiting for the damn thing to show up wtih no idea when it will arrive (in many cases). Terrible.

Had a smoking hot recent college grad (teacher) who was driving for uber during her summer break last week. Comfortable ride in her new prius, and way more interesting conversation.
