The Vick/Eli QB By Committee Strategy (1 Viewer)

Anybody else thinking of doing this ??

Load up on RBs, WRs, top TE and come the 8th-9th round you pick Vick and then follow up with Eli or best available QB with your next pick. This probably would work best if you pick near either ends of the draft.

I like Vick as part of a committee for the ludicrous upside he represents if he fully assimilates and stays healthy.

I do NOT like Eli as a backup/timeshare, since I don't think his potential relative to the guys you can pick in the QB endgame makes him worth it. I'd much rather have a Bradford, Cutler, Palmer, Freeman, Alex Smith, or whoever at their price tag. Especially since if Vick stays healthy, you'll probably end up with a committee of one anyway.

Although, given the preseason results, I'd be wary of feeling safe in the idea that you'll be able to find Vick as late as you're hoping.

I like Eli as the backup because he has a higher floor. If Vick goes down or faces a tough matchup, I want someone I feel comfortable with ready to go. Vick is already a risky pick, now back that up with a safe choice.

I can see the argument.

I do feel, however, that if your QB production ends up being anything remotely like Eli's floor, your season is shot anyway. I'd take one of the later guys with similar or better upside, and use those valuable midround picks on guys with higher ceilings and floors at other positions.

But tomato, tomahto.

This. I wouldn't wait past round 6 to get Vick at this point.
I got him and Romo at the 8-9 turn of my last mock
He went in the 4th and 6th, respectively, of the two freebie espns I did this morning, despite being default ranked by them in the 110's.

Although admittedly, this is one day after an outstanding performance, so a little artificial bump is probably built in. I like 6th/7th as a target area if you've got your heart set on him, 8th/9th if you'd like him, but are willing to settle on an endgame committee approach if things don't work out.

If you are targeting him, then you are going to have to reach past his ADP. I think there is great value in the QB10-14 range and plan on taking two of whoever is left. Would be pretty happy duplicating that result in my drafts today.

I agree. I think if you target him before that 6th/7th area, you have no real chance at capitalizing on any of the upside, but if you miss him there, you should still have options that don't limit you to the endgame committee approach. That's why I chose that range.

Got Vick and Cutler in the 10/11 rounds 2 weeks ago, before Vick was the official starter...they have a great combined schedule.
