i don't think that there was any implication at all about him having the prison guys in his pocket. I think that you are right that it would give a plausible reason for him to conduct business that way.Always figured the implication was that Avon had prison guys in his pocket that allowed him to speak freely on the phone. In real life, that place has always had a reputation for being comically corrupt. Google jessup.
In a later episode the dude that strangled Dee was able to listen to Dee's conversation with his mom... from a different booth. That's implication enough to resolve my prior complaint. It didn't bug me enough to seek real life cases of this particular corruption, but I might. I know how corrupt guards are at a few California facilities. Comical is being nice.Always figured the implication was that Avon had prison guys in his pocket that allowed him to speak freely on the phone. I think it was also a matter of economy of story telling. We didn't need to see the unique coding systems inmates often use to send messages to the outside.i don't think that there was any implication at all about him having the prison guys in his pocket. Unlikely. I was hooked from Day 1.Given my opinion of season one and part of two, will I ever love the series?
It's OK.Watched season one and thought it was good. Not great. Season two has been tough to latch on to and I've since started GOT in its place. Given my opinion of season one and part of two, will I ever love the series? Everyone I spoke to said I just needed to give season one time and I would be hooked but not so much. I want to love it but unclear on the draw.

I thought it's been well-characterized, but a bit heavy-handed. The X-Files dude in particular. I thought Stringer, D, Avon, and Shakima were good. Jimmy to a extent. The rest, meh.How could you not be hooked after two seconds of Stringer Bell's coolness.

I will watch the rest. We're usually on the same page with TV.jb, hang on at least until the end of season 2 with the Sobatkas. Amazing sequence/payoff at the end of that season.
Heidi > BeadieSeasons 3 and 4 are the best but 1 and 2 are awesome. Show might not be for you but you're a rare breed if so. I think Home Improvement is on DVD by now.

I liked the black people in season one better, but maybe it's just because of my love of the hit series Family Matters.Never gets oldI'm sure there's an episode of Big Bang Theory you could be watching.Given.It's OK.Watched season one and thought it was good. If you didn't fall for the show by the end of season one, I'm not sure you will. Season two seems to be less favored overall, but I really loved it.. Maybe because there were more white people in it, I don't know. I'm not a sociologist.

I just finished rewatching this season this past weekend, and I agree 100% with this. The first time around, it feels like you just got dropped into a show that's been up and running for a while -- it took me several episodes even to get a handle on the names of the characters. The second viewing was much easier to follow. The start of season one makes a lot more sense, and for me was more enjoyable, on the second viewing. There's a lot going on that I didn't understand the first time.
Herc and Prez are the two worst cops on the show. And the best cops on the show are white -- McNulty, Herc, Prez, and Rawls.
at Rawls. That's Season 2. I liked it.I started watching season 1 with the wife a few months ago. We would watch an episode or two every night but she would always fall asleep about 3/4 in. So I stopped watching so she could catch up.
Well I dropped her like Wallace and started from scratch over the weekend and I finished season 1 last night. I can't wait to start season 2 tonight.
Which season had the docks ? I've heard that season was tough to watch but I should muscle through it.
Because they don't exist and white boys from the burbs wouldn't last 10 minutes selling crack in Baltimore.I've always had a problem with the blatant racism on the show. Why couldn't the crack dealers be middle class whites from the Baltimore suburbs? And the best cops on the show are white -- McNulty, Herc, Prez, and Rawls. Then you've got Daniels who starts out as a seemingly sympathetic character, until it's revealed he is a sellout who bangs a white woman. Do you guys wear KKK robes when you watch this trash?
Yeah, McGarnicle is so wrong that it's almost as if he was being wrong on purpose, possibly for comedic effect.Herc and Prez are the two worst cops on the show. And the best cops on the show are white -- McNulty, Herc, Prez, and Rawls.at Rawls.

I lived in northeastern MD for 5 miserable years and went to Baltimore a handful of times for Ravens games and once to check out the inner harbor. I found it hard to believe I was still in the US. The few pockets of decent things to do aren't worth the drive through some of the most miserable depressed areas I've ever seen. Camden is similar, but the devastation in Baltimore goes on for miles and miles.Because they don't exist and white boys from the burbs wouldn't last 10 minutes selling crack in Baltimore.I've always had a problem with the blatant racism on the show. I take it you've never been to Baltimore? I'm not sure there is another major city in America that has the (self imposed) segregation that Baltimore has. There are a few pockets of nice areas but 90% of the city is low income. You have entire communities of poor white people and poor black people who want nothing to do with each other and they're perfectly fine with that.

Yea , I loath going to Baltimore. You will see countless people pointing their finger at the ground as you drive past to indicate they have dope for sale, and off in the distance watching it all will be a squad car. It's always a let down...Currently in re-watch mode at the tail end of season 4. Gonna give 5 a run as well, just in case it got better while I wasn't looking.
I think I feel this way about every final season or every show I enjoyed. I think it goes hand in hand. It's always a let down...Currently in re-watch mode at the tail end of season 4. Gonna give 5 a run as well, just in case it got better while I wasn't looking.
Made the trek start to finish 3x and season 5 always let's me down. I can enjoy parts of it, but the serial killer/newspaper storyline really irks me. Seeing resolution for bubbles story and what happens to the corner kids makes the season worth the viewing, but it is easily the worst of the five seasons.
Actually these people are trying to flag a ride, in Baltimore's informal but widely accepted alternative form of transportation known as hacking.Yea , I loath going to Baltimore. Those little pockets you mention however hide some of the worlds finest and hottest women on earth. I don't know why or where they come from, but they scorch the earth.
