The Wire (3 Viewers)

Did we ever find out what it was Burrel had on Cedric with the money?
No. Think we need a prequel.
Also, Rawls was in a gay bar in once episode, though they never really followed up with that or talked about it prior. Quesedilla with that?
there's about 20 similar posts in this thread like that. just a weird thing they threw in there that didn't go anywhere.
I figured there would be, but ain't no way I'm reading through 60 freaking pages of a thread!

Maybe it didn't need to go anywhere. His closeted homosexuality explains a lot about his behavior on the show. I really enjoyed his character. He played it well. Hell they all did.

We just got this show in Mexico, I plan to start watching it tonight. Just finished with Oz and Operation Kill but the wife wanted to watch the wire as well so I've had to wait.

The whole newspaper storyline was sobering.

AJ is right about Bubs though.
I think we can all agree it was the weakest season, but it still needs to be watched just to resolve the storylines. Would you really be happy never knowing what happens with Omar? Marlo? Chris and Snoop?

Come on, son.
Did I need to watch S5 to find out how any of them turned out? The Game rarely ends well for its participants.

You're acting like it's the last season of Dexter, for Christ's sake. Would you seriously be happier having never watched it?

That wasn't an option while watching it first-run. Who in their right mind would pass on S5 after what the first four seasons delivered?

I mean knowing what you know now.

In order of seasons I'd want to forget completely and rewatch:

3

1

4 5

2

I know this will be unpopular, and it's not necessarily a ranking of each season critically.. but it is what it is. 5 is taking way too much a beating IMO. Cops have done crazier things I'm sure. The newspaper storyline was pretty boring though.

Season 5 is essential, if only for Bubbles who is one of the best characters ever.
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....Also a ton of Clay Davis.

If you have no desire to watch S5 because of some negative reviews...you were never invested in the show in the first place.

I'm sure this has been mentioned in here but the problem with the newspaper storyline is that it was too personal for Simon. He made the characters too black and white, which was jarring in a show where everyone else was various shades of gray. Well, that and the fact it was over the top.

The only acceptable reason not to watch S5 is if you died immediately after S4. No other excuses will be accepted.

Yep he was settling scores from his past at The Sun (from what I've read).
This is true - he lost all perspective. Simon lives by the grudge. My wife was a reporter at The Sun in the years immediately following his departure, and the same editors that he maligned in Season 5 (including one named Marimow, whose name Simon gave to one of the most officious, dithering characters in the entire series) were and are some of the most respected figures in journalism - though, sadly, they've both left The Sun far behind for bigger and better things, as the paper has cratered under the disastrous ownership of Tribune.

Here's another interesting tidbit from Simon's blog - how he recently went after Huffington Post and a Duke University academic press for libel, for saying he was fired from The Sun. In fact, he took a buyout as the paper was downsizing and left even after the editors he hated begged him to stay.

Weird. In my circle we argue what the best season was, three or four. Strange to see you have 4 so low.

I like 4 a lot. I think I'd rate them 3>2>1=4=5

Season 5 was the worst of the series, however, it was still better than the best season of Dexter.

The newspaper angle wasn't that enticing, and the serial killer thing was pretty convoluted and unrealistic for sure. The resolution of the storylines and characters though was great. It was a good final season and end of the story for the characters we got to know and appreciate. Not as good as Breaking Bad's final season, but better than the Sopranos IMO.

100% must watch for any fan of the show.

ETA: HBO hamstrung the final season. It was written for its normal 13 episode run, and then HBO made them cut it to 10.

Not really. Season 4 of Dexter deserves to be stacked up with the best of the best.

John Lithgow and the ending were great, but being that the main complaint about Season 5 is the unrealistic/over the top serial killer angle, it is still more realistic than Dexter.

And saying that something was better than S6 of The Sopranos isn't exactly a compliment. Chase ruined all the goodwill he built up by trying to be some delicate genius.

Are we talking about realism or good television?
