There is no freaking way Shaun Alexander won't be #1. (1 Viewer)

I can understand the arguments that he won't be #1, but what I don't understand is the consensus that seems to have formed around LT and LJ as the top 2. How can SA not be considered a legitimate contender for #1?

That said, I have the #1 pick in my $$ league, and I'm not seriously considering him. I think the only reason I'm not is that I watch more AFC West games than anything else, so I've seen a lot more of LT and LJ.

Some of these are laughable. SA will be fine. Can you explain how Eddie George's fumble in the playoffs impacted his fantasy stats that year?

He's also 29 years old. Only twice in the last 25 years has a RB over 28 finished #1: Barry Sanders (29), Priest Holmes (30).

Well, you shouldn't pick LJ then, either, because all Penn State running backs stink in the NFl.Totally irrelevant, totally useless information from a fantasy prediction standpoint.

There.. boldfaced the significant ones.... still the majority  including 3 of the last 4It's clearly a HUGE factor and can be relied upon with at least 60-70% accuracy.

2006 2007 Shaun Alexander Fumbles in week 7 home game almost costing them the game. Causes team morale to remain at an all time average. FAILS to set touchdown record again!

Great thread. I am strongly considering SA to team with LJ at my auction tonight. The rest of my team will be crap but woohoo what a backfield.

How does the Madden induction into the HOF impact the curse? I am not up on voodoo, witchcraft, astrology and such?

VERY good question. I'm guessing the curse moves to the player teaching at the Art Monk Football Camp.

Your a year late on SA. ;)

BTW, how many RBs have finished as the #1 Fantasy RB 3 years in a row? SA could do that if this thread proves accurate. My guess is not many, but you never know.

Clearly.Big props to everyone who pointed out the high correlation between being on the Madden cover and seeing a decline in play the next season. This is HUGE news, since everyone knows that correlation absolutely implies causation.

Emmitt Smith is the only RB to finish as the #1 RB for 3 straight seasons- and he actually managed the feat for FOUR straight years.Tomlinson, Faulk, Dickerson, Campbell, and Terrell Davis all managed 3 straight top-3 seasons, though. Maybe a couple of other RBs that I'm missing here.

the schedule for seattle is very soft . i just went through all the teams games a week ago and moved all seattle guys up on my board . + 2 home games against (imo) 06 bad teams durring ff playoffs . alexander is my #1 .

Talking about the Madden Curse is pissing in the Shark Pool. Go post on astrology.com.
For the record - I posted the curse comment with some sarcasm that must have been lost in translation. For the sake of argument - How can some of the "sharks" that use historical data to project or "predict" future performance scoff at the use of historical data that demonstrates a simple correlation between a player's appearance on the cover and using that correlation to predict some bad mojo going their way? I don't see much of a real difference.

Please explain.

Let's look a bit more objectively at the curse.2000 curse stats - Eddie George Key fumble vs. Ravens in playoffs; team lost in Divisional Playoff after losing Super Bowl XXXIV

2000 reality stats - 1962 total yards - 16 TDs

-----------------------

2001 curse stats - Daunte Culpepper Missed 5 games in 2001; team missed playoffs after losing NFC Championship in 2000

2001 reality stats - out last 5 games of season - got you to the playoffs with 2612 passing yards, 14 TDs, 416 rushing yards, 5 rushing TDs

--------------------

2002 curse stats - Marshall Faulk Least productive season as a Ram up to that point; team missed playoffs after losing Super Bowl XXXVI

2002 reality stats - 1490 total yards (80 catches!) 10 Tds

-------------------

2003 curse stats - Michael Vick Missed 11 games after breaking leg in 2003 preseason; team missed playoffs after losing Divisional Playoff in 2002

2003 reality stats - You drafted Vick. Probably in the first round

--------------------

2004 curse stats - Ray Lewis Critically seen as an off year; team missed playoffs after losing Wild Card Playoff in 2003

2004 reality stats - 100 tackles - 46 assists - 1 sack - 1 FF - 2 Fumble recoveries (FYI Ray Lewis has never had more than 3.5 sacks in a season)

--------------------

2005 curse stats - Donovan McNabb Missed 7 games in 2005; team missed playoffs after losing Super Bowl XXXIX

2005 reality stats - Injured after 9 games - 2500+ yards and 17 tds in that stretch. #1 seed Peyton Manning threw for 2169/17 during the same stretch.

-------------------

2006 curse stats .......

2006 reality stats .......

Even with injury I don't see the curse victims as bad picks...

If you drafted Vick...well... that's on you :)

Food for thought.

Correlation is not causation. Nothing about being on the Madden cover causes injury, and to even attempt to keep the stupid story about the curse alive requires ridiculous mental gyrations (like Eddie George's playoff fumble counting).

He can still be a legitimate contender. He just happens to be third best contender in many people's eyes. And I've said it before: "Let's leave all that curse nonsense to a pansy sport like baseball."
