Things that are inexplicably expensive (1 Viewer)

Greeting Cards.  My wife is one of those people that wants to send cards for every occasion including anniversaries. She has 8 siblings, most have kids, so we spend a small fortune with Hallmark.  Not sure why these things run $4.00 or so on average.
Because people like your wife will happily spend it

I'm always amazed at the cost of decent toilet paper.
Charmin and Viva choose a size papertowel- the only brands I buy. I wait for Target to have a great sale that includes a $5 gc if you buy 2 packs and stock up. These sales don't happen often.

Seems like cell phones are more expensive each time I buy one
I'm in a Verizon store right now. Most of the new phones are more than $30/month. The Pixel XL is $36/month with a retail of $869. For a phone (I know it's really a computer, but still...).

IPhone 7+ is $40/month, $970 retail.

We need to reconsider this whole thing, people.

I posted that right before a journey to the store myself.  Still not sure what to do.

Vanilla beans. These things used to be already up there compared to most spices, but now they're trying to get away with one bean for $15+.

Hospital helicopter rides and intracranial surgery.  They are both around $50,000 for about 4 hours of work.
Wife's cousin races stock cars was hit from behind and flipped into wall upside down. Flight for life, surgery for broken back and neck in a couple of places and a week in intensive care - came to 500K - bill is still growing with therapy and stuff. Thankfully back home and recuperating still. I asked when he was getting back in - the women(his wife, his mom my wife) in the family gave a long cold stare. I know he'll want to get back in someday.

I had to buy a new mattress a few months ago.  Ridiculous.

Went out looking at furniture yesterday at consignment shops. So insane.

And at this very moment, looking at for property management software. Three times the amount I paid for the mattress and it's per year.

Glasses/frames - march on down to Costco GB
Check out MRI Software.  We use them and I think our endusers like it.

5 oz shell of blueberries 5.99 Whole Food Robbery

I got a crapload size at Publix tonight for 3 bucks to dump in the steel cuts in the morning.

Used to be 200 bucks with a two-year contract even for the early computers/smart phones.

I've just started going the used/refurbished route. Phones made in the 2013 range and newer are all really good.

Quick glance at Amazon shows a Galaxy S6 will set you back around $300-350 right now and an S5 is about $170. The S5 isn't even 3 years old yet. I'm no power user, but I'm perfectly happy with my S4 mini that I got a few months ago.

We need to rethink this except people will literally line up for days for the new ones.  The functionality of a phone today including its computing power is incredible, the screens are amazing, the cameras are fantastic.  I spend more time on my phone than I do my laptop or my iPad and neither seemed expensive when I bought those.  The only reason we think phones are expensive is because we remember the clamshells.

I'm honestly not trying to pick on you but...

In general, I think we need to rethink how much time we're spending on our phones, laptops, and tablets. Yes, I include myself.

My cell phone bill for 4 lines is now what a car payment was when I was younger.  Why is this the one piece of tech that hasn't really gotten cheaper?

NEW phones.  If people don't have the new phone affliction, then phones aren't too expensive.

I don't think I've had ''this year's'' model of phone in about 15 years.

Good rule of thumb:  If you need to put your phone on a dang payment plan, you maybe can't afford one.

Currently in the process of planning a wedding - every bill involved in this process is unbelievably overpriced.
