Things to do in Daytona Beach, FL (1 Viewer)

Family stuff other than laying on the beach and getting burnt. Will be there next week, plan on taking in a ball game, what else? Orlando parks not on the docket right now. Looking for something more local that would entertain 3 women and me, daughters are older (15 & 20) so adultish stuff preferably. TIA for any suggestions.

Daytona Speedway tour and that is it.  Nothing else to do but lay on the beach. By the way driving on the beach is still allowed. So watch where you lay. How the environmentalists still allow this is beyond me. Take a look at any commercial parking lot and note the oil stains.

And it's spectacular.

They have Richard Petty experience there where you can drive or ride along in a NASCAR at about 150-160 or tour the facility.

Expensive but so much fun

in my limited research that's pretty much what I came up with as well.

Agree with the cars on the beach thing, seems a little odd to me but when in Rome...thanks

Any decent restaurants in the area I should look up?

Track tour is solid. Boardwalk is meh.  I am there every 3 months and the track, mini-putt, and the beach are what's there.  Tomoka State Park is nice.  Ponce Inlet has a nice lighthouse.  There is some good food there.  I like Caribbean Jacks for lunch.  It's on the other side of the river.  Decent food, but great outdoor eating.  I also like Hyde Park Prime steakhouse (little chain) in the Hilton. Pricey, but very good food and awesome drinks.  You could drive up to Marineland I guess or St. Augustine where there is is plenty to do.  HTH

Used to spend many a summers on Daytona Beach. 8 bucks for a boogie board rental and 20 bucks to spend on the arcade at Walkin' Charlie's. Much better experience for the price than the hundreds my parents would spend for Disney/Epcot.

Unfortunately, the boardwalk is trash now and Walkin' Charlie's is no more.

@Evilgrin-72 is probably your go to source.
Honestly, in this case, probably not.  I've been to Daytona many times, but I basically do the same thing every time.  Go to the Ocean Deck around noon and start crushing buckets of beers and shots.  When everyone is fairly well lubed, we walk down to the "Boardwalk" (I put it in quotes because it's not a boardwalk) and get 32 oz beers and play in the arcade for an hour or two.  At the end of this, we all pool our Skeeball, etc tickets together and give them to some little kid in the arcade.  Then, walk to the Oyster Pub for chargrilled oysters and more beers.  Usually, by the end of this, my wife has to shovel me into the car and take me back to the hotel or home.

I've been to the Speedway and that's cool.  I know there's a waterslide park (small compared to the ones in Orlando obviously) that's right on A1A and they built up the Ocean Walk with a bunch of chain restaurants and novelty bars.  The handful of times I've been awake and coherent much past dinner, we usually walked to the downtown bars, but some of them can be a bit rough and certainly nowhere I'd want to be hanging out with two underage girls.

There's an arena there too (that will figure into an upcoming tale in the 'Story Time w/EG' thread) - the Ocean Center.  There are some decent shows there from time to time, so you can check their event calendar.  I saw Tool there in 2002 (the story revolves around this.)

My mom lives up in Ormand by the Sea, and our family will go to Peach Valley Cafe for breakfast numerous times when we are there. They do a great job for breakfast. I think it's worth the 10 to 30 minute trip up there (depending on where you are staying in the area).

Lulu's Oceanside Grill is great for lunch, and Stonewood Grill and Tavern was a good place for dinner if you are looking on the expensive side. But again, these are Ormand area restaurants. Most stuff down in Daytona seems too touristy/chain store to us.

Play a LOT of Clash of Clans.  I hear they have some nice places you can play it there.   You should be able to max out TH10 while there.

Go to Yelp and type in the zip code for whatever hotel/motel on the beach you are staying at. I would try and hit the better reviewed spots, try one a day during your stay.

Load up on suncreen, I have a particular brand that I recommend, works better than most of the others I wear on the beach. Actually 2 of them

BB Sun Comfort 50 and Blue Lizard

Now there are lots of sprays and BB makes a ton of different sunscreens but many of them are the suxor after a few minutes.

Just pack a cooler and enjoy the beach, buy some shade if it's available.
