Things To Do Nearish Ft Lauderdale? (1 Viewer)

Flying into Ft Lauderdale with some buddies in late June. Flying in the 21st and flying back out the 24th. Got a hotel in the Hollywood Beach area and we're looking for things to do.

For one of the days, we're talking about taking a trip somewhere further away from there, like down to the Keys or hopping a boat to the Bahamas for the day for snorkeling/jet skiing/paddle boarding ect. What's the viability of something like that?

We're not real upscale guys, but we'll be wanting to hit up some restaurants and figuring out some other fun stuff to do in the area.

TIA

The ferry in Ft. Lauderdale goes to Freeport, Grand Bahama.  It takes about 3.5 hours so not great for a day trip.

I believe there is a boat in Miami that goes to Bimini and should be much shorter.

You can drive to the top of the Keys in a little less than 2 hours from Ft. Lauderdale.  Key West is about 4-5 hours.

I'd suggest looking at Tripadvisor and Groupon for the jet ski/boat rental stuff.

Lots of nice beaches around. Personally,  I like the area around Lauderdale-by-the-sea. There's a fishing pier there and different restaurants/shops to check out.

Lots of casinos in that area (Pompano Beach down to Miami) as well if that's your thing.

Le Tub in Hollywood for a burger.  Voted best in nation by GQ a number of years ago.  Nothing earth shattering burger wise, but pretty good.

I used to live in Hollywood Beach. There is a great boardwalk with a very cool open air bar you can sit and watch the bikinis go by: Nicks Bar and Grill

In Ft. Lauderdale beach a fun way to spend an afternoon is at the Elbow Room, an institutional dive bar full of a wide range of hookers, drunks, locals and tourists. I was part of the web team that put their first web cams in around '94, that was alot of fun.

Cool, good to know.

Take the boat taxi around to bars/restaurants along the beach and Las Olas. Shooters is fun and good spots to eat off Las Olas.
