This is for you Mr. Neslon - What does retirement look like for you? (1 Viewer)

I know that most FBG are already ultra rich and retired already or don't need to retire because they have so much money. But for those that aren't, I'm curious when you plan on retiring and what do you plan on doing when you retire.

For me, what I'd LIKE to happen is that my wife and I get a few acres in the country. I've already retired from ONE job and just trying to figure out how long I have to keep working at this second job. I'm nearing the big "5-0" so I've got a few years left to work. I'm thinking by 60 I'd like to be 100% retired and living in the country. Fishing when I want to and spending time with my wife.

Id also like to go fishing when I want and spend time with JNox3's wife.
That does NOT sound like a very achievable retirement plan. But good luck.

Also, you didn't say when you wanted to start your plan. Fail.

A place with a yard big enough to tinker or garden in, near Eugene for football and basketball season, with season tickets. Enough money to travel to a road game or two every year. An RV or trailer to cruise around in during the spring and summer, and visit my daughter and (assumed) grandkids wherever they may live. A drift boat to get in some steelhead and salmon fishing. Healthy enough to stay active and go hiking. I think I'd be pretty happy with that.

I'd love to find a way to do all that in my early-60s, which is 20 years from now.

The only way I'll get to retire before SS kicks in at 100% is if I win the lottery. I expect to have to work a long time. My wife's health issues have just drained us completely over the years. So no early retirement.

Just curious, is the wife on board with this?

I like working. I work all the time because I enjoy it. When I'm not working my main job I'm tinkering around with any one of a dozen side items where the eventual output is money or value. The things I enjoy doing - talking to people, negotiating, creating things - all factor into my work. If I ever did "retire" from those things it would be so I could go be a basketball coach at some little school. And even then they might still pay me I suppose.

What does "retire" mean?
Many of the so called early retired define it as being financially independent and only doing things you choose rather than what you may have to do to service debt or build savings.

But that would mean many big time actors, ceos, athletes, etc would be retired even though they are working their butts off.

To me if you're not pursuing leisure and keeping your have to's to a minimum, you're not retired, maybe financially independent, but not retired.

And if your work is your fun then you either really hit the jackpot in life, or you really don't know how to relax.
