Weapon of Mass Instruction

Watch my feet!
Profootballtalk is reporting that the NY Jets had 2 practices scheduled for today in camp. Both practices were cancelled at the last minute with no explanation.

Could be nothing, I guess. But...that is really weird.

Any of you have more details?

From what I understand, it could be in part to the nasty storm possibly to blow through. Skies are black and could be in for a nasty one.

My guess is, it's either that or a "team building" day. I know the Bills usually have a day where instead of practice, they just load all the guys up and go somewhere fun for the day.

When can I get one of those at work?

Probably just realized that they have no shot at winning the AFC East and decided to make TC fun for the guys.

Last night on the radio (ESPN) the reporter said that practice would be indoors (because of storms) and closed to the public. I did not hear anything of it being canceled. Any confirmaiton?

That's the first thing I thought.
Why would acquiring Brett Favre facilitate canceling practice? Mike T would be handling the negotiations and even in Mangini's input was required he has a battery of assistant coaches that are capable of carrying out drills and planning sessions.
Rolling out the red carpet for him. A ticker-tape parade etc. :lmao:

They've already realized that their season is pointless, so why train for it?

This is the correct answer. :lmao:

When? The point of the season at which they're 3-9?

Why bother? By the time that day comes, this thread will have long been purged, and the board colors changed.

The weather was treacherous yesterday here in NYC, but nice today. No clue on why they'd cancel it, but I doubt it's the first time teams have done so.

I feel bad for any fans that went out there trying to catch some of the action.

They also have a practice bubble.....

Not sure where the skies were black, it is a bueautiful day in the NY area. I just listened through two 20/20s on WFAN after seeing this threads and the Jets weren't mentioned at all.

Eric Mangini scrubbed Monday's schedule to give his players a recovery day.

New York Jets coach Eric Mangini has cancelled Monday's practices. They originally had been scheduled for 8:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m.

Mangini scrubbed the schedule to give his players a recovery day. Mangini, always exploring ways to maximize each moment, decided before camp that he would give his players an occasional day off to recoup physically and mentally.

Where is their camp? It's gorgeous in New York today...
Jets practice at Hofstra.
How did they miss out on Colston, then?
I asked this a year or more ago and didn't get a response. It's frankly embarrassing that that happened.

He was at the combine and in the East West game... His games were scouted. It's not like it was a kid no one saw... EVERYONE Missed out when he fell all the way top the 7th - even the Saints said they would have drafted him well before that if they had any idea... In the 7th it's a pure flyer pick.I think he just made a huge incredible leap converting to the NFL.... I read an article where his college wr coach was shocked - not that he made it but, that he made it in 1 year. His HC was even a ex Jets assistant.

We talking about practice! Not a game, not a game, not a game...we talking about practice!!!!What are we talking about? Practice? We talking about practice man!!!

Not that anyone cares but here is Mangini on the "day off" yesterday, as per Jets blogger Eric Boland: “In researching the patterns of training camp and researching the trends over the years, what we’ve seen is there’s a dramatic spike of injuries early on in camp and that makes a lot of sense because guys will go from the offseason program to a break and then they come back and they jump right back in to very heavy, high intensity exercise and all the contact,” Mangini said. “So you go right from the break, to the conditioning run to a one-a-day, two-a-day and between fatigue and all the elements that go into it, you have a lot of injuries early in camp. We looked at the different things related to recovery and we planned the day out accordingly.”

Also, rumor is that the Jets made available #4 jerseys. I don't believe that means the Jets go Favre, just letting you guys know the deal on some of the rumblings in Jetsland. I wouldn't put ANY stock in it....although I posted it :lmao:

ETA: Boland mentioned, "And for those of you who recalled – and hopefully only a very few of you know this – Smith, that backup punter, was wearing No. 4 during camp. Yes, some witling in the press – it might have been me but I’ll have to check the transcript to be sure – asked Mangini if the roster move had been made to free up Favre’s number. Um, no."

The Bucs did the exact same thing. There was a DB named Elbert Mack that was #4 up until a week ago.
