THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (1 Viewer)

Are we still turning the clock back on tomorrow at 7 a.m. PST, with Captain Cranks up for the top of the 18th round?  I know that's what had been decided; personally don't care much if we do clock or just continue one-per-day (and selfishly don't look forward to keeping track of the clock, skips, picks again).

I'm partial to the pick-a-day format.  Not a ton of sniping going on now and if it happens it doesn't really matter.

Let's keep doing one pick per day.

Also, do we want to add more rounds to the spreadsheet and keep going after 20?

Whatever we do I hope it ends at 20 rounds. There have been picks of bands that only had one hit and few have heard anything else that they have done. If it continues beyond 20 rounds it will morph into a favorite song draft, not the best song from any artist IMO.

Is there really a difference?

17.11 Pinegrove - Old Friends

Not highly acclaimed, and maybe not super talented.  But this is one of those songs that makes me stop what I'm doing when it comes on and makes me listen.

The first time I heard the line "I should call my parents when I think of them, should tell my friends when I love them", I felt like my perspective on life changed.

I assume this was in your mega-thread but I missed it (sometimes it was hard to keep up).  Really enjoyed it, though I agree with you that they're maybe not super talented.  Somehow it worked for me anyway, too.

I take my music seriously. I am sorry that you don't (or at least to the extent that I do) and that was evidenced by by your earlier snarky and sarcastic response to my post.
I think a person who takes the time to post a thread with 1000+ favorite songs by 1000+ different artists definitely loves music.

What response was snarky?

Dude, chill.

I TAKE MY MUSIC SERIOUSLY

This is another band, like Frightened Rabbit, that my 22 year old daughter and I have bonded over.

We’ve seen them a few times.

This and Aphasia are my favorites.

If many drop, I’m ok to stop at 20 and just have everyone provide their own “just missed” lists. It’s all about the discussion anyway at this point given that everyone is picking at their leisure.

I’d pick a little differently with the last few picks if I knew we were stopping at 20 as opposed to continuing on.  Certainly no big deal though.

Uh oh ... boring wedding. No one's dancing. Lame DJ. What to do?

Spin this mother:

17.32: The Whispers, "And the Beat Goes On"

That little disco guitar scratching gets me every time. And of course the harmonies are airtight.

If you don't take a non-competitive music draft on a fantasy football board seriously then you're doing it wrong.

Um...every draft is competitive, or what is the point?

I have seen people cheering here  :pickle:  multiple times because they got a selection that had fallen to them and couldn't believe their luck.

Okay, so I owe a bunch due to Thanksgiving weekend.  Lost a lot of stuff from my list due to my lethargy.  Anyway, let’s blast these out:

Round 14

The Offspring – The Kids Aren’t Alright

Going value here.  At one point this may have been my favorite band.  Feel very strongly that this is their best song.  Some other good ones are Half-Truism, Head Around You, and Dividing by Zero/Slim Pickens Does the Right Thing.

Round 15

Spagehog – In the Meantime

Yeah, I guess they’re a one hit wonder but hey, it’s a good song!

Round 16

Willie Nelson – Always on My Mind

If you want something less chalky, Somebody Pick Up My Pieces is a nice one.

Round 17

The Gaslight Anthem – ’59 Sound

It needs to be the acoustic version, so that’s what I linked.  Also like American Slang.

About where to post the picks?  Come on, dude.  It was a joke.  The same joke I'd make if anyone had asked the question.

Get over yourself.

I was asking a serious question as someone who was new to these drafts and you had to take a cheap shot.

Get over yourself and treat people better.

Lots of likes for today's picks.

I've listened to a lot of Lucinda Williams since the start of the draft but I couldn't settle on her best song.  "Righteously" was on the short list though.

Man, I still owe Round 17 but I'm watching the Browns/Ravens tilt. Does that mean I take my magic football seriously? Because I'm watching even though thoroughly eliminated in two of four leagues yet want my IDP investment in Jeremiah Owusu-Koromaoh to work out well?

You bet it does.

That is serious business, folks.

I can't help but have at least an inkling of doubt Morrissey is responsible for this.

The end of the first half was some awful-looking football.

I blame Morrissey for that, too.

Round 17:

Hearts of Oak — Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

Another artist that friends I made during my Lost Years turned me on to. This happened when Hearts of Oak, their second full-length album, was new. I still think it’s their best and the title track is my favorite from it. I got them to play it at one of their shows I went to.

RA and I previously discussed their Thin Lizzy cover.
Love this pick. I'm partial to "The Crane Takes Flight," and "St. John The Divine," but nice to see Ted Leo get picked here. I know a bunch of people on here like him, so it's no surprise, but it's nice to see.

I listened to "The Crane Takes Flight" all the way to L.A. from San Diego in a rental for a friend's wedding years and years ago. It was pretty swanky. Reception was at the Beverly Hills Hotel. I showed up in fine form and tripped the light fantastic, though listening to Hearts Of Oak all the way there had put me in an indie mood rather than a party one.

Oceans lay between us baby...
