THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (3 Viewers)

You're caught up in the genre game, but no matter - you picked a great record.

My problem with most of Linda's '70s hits was that she couldn't dial it back when needed. That wasn't necessarily her fault (in fact, I'm sure it wasn't - it's on her producers), but all we have are the records and many of them are just sand-blasted versions of songs that were done much better by others.

Yeah, that's why I think Linda is an interesting "best song" artist and why I wanted to pick her.  She is not an artist I would consider as "consistent" by any stretch.

I like some Rancid music, but there's a creep factor with a 30-year old dude chasing down a 16-year old girl (who was trying to break into the music business - surprise, surprise).  Plot climax - the girl is one of my favorite rockers ever and she will not go undrafted here.

and her Canciones de mi Padre remains on my most-listened list to this day.

i made a lot of fun of Ronstadt in the 70s because the pop path she chose derailed a lot of rock chicks i worked with (Bonnie Raitt chased the brass ring and was without a recording contract by 1980) who had just gotten over the whole "is she the next Janis Joplin" bugaboo, but she's right there with Aretha as a singer who will give you perfect context on a cold read.

@Uruk-Hai, does Marco snipe you as much as he does me?  He's in my top three along with simey and he who shall not be named.
I don't think so. He just scares me.

I'd say my top #######s, um, competitors, are you (only a couple of artists involved there, though, then we diverge), HWSNBN (######), and  - depending on format - either Binky or ILove80s. Pip sniped Funkadelic this draft and he's moving up on my #### list.

Good thing I don't circumvent the language filter

Yeah, speaking of his father, Tim Buckley, that is another unanswered what if career trajectory question.

Tim Buckley bounced around various musical styles and had trouble finding and maintaining any type of consistent audience.

According to what I've read, Tim Buckley's next project was going to be a live LP featuring the top songs over his 8 year career that worked the best in concert. That formula for a live release is what Peter Frampton did a few years later and propelled him to the top echelon of rock. I believe the same would have happened with Tim, but who knows as he never did what was expected or predicted and may have veered off in some other direction.

Ronstadt didn't write songs. She had excellent taste in picking good material that suited her talents and those Peter Asher produced 70s recordings are impeccable.

She had a lovely voice that could do Pop, Country, Rock and R&B. I think her rockers are probably her worst subject--she barely sounded comfortable belting out "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" but was out of her depth with "Tumbling Dice"

He really wasn't really a drug addict, per se, and his overdose was rather fluky, more like a tragic misadventure. I don't want to go into but you can read about it if you wish. That wasn't really the outcome people who knew him at the time would have predicted (unlike say Tommy Bolin who Glenn Hughes said it is obvious he was one of those people who would never make it to 40).

Pop Quiz Time Killer:

Guess which United States Senator I nearly crashed my shopping cart into today in my local Costco. I wanted to give her a piece of my mind, but she kindasorta smiled at me, and I kindasorta smiled back.
