THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (4 Viewers)

I recall from the last one that he had really varied tastes.  He might not mind the Rush song.  I'm sure there's Rush discussion in that thread that we could check.

We could throw Rush back into the pool and slot shuke into the order for  higgins or Manster.  That would still leave room for one more late joiner without a radical rework of the spreadsheet.

Yes, and I've felt like #### to start with most of the week and coming in here and seeing mostly negativity is not helping or making me want to in any way take the wheel but I am feeling better now and agree we need something, so as I said

  • HOPEFULLY EVERYONE STAYS IN, YOU CAN DECIDE UNTIL THE END OF THIS ROUND BUT I DO WANT EVERYONE TO STAY - JUST PLEASE, STOP POSTING THAT YOU MIGHT NOT, #### OR GET OFF THE POT SO TO SPEAK, BUT ALSO JUST STAY
  • 1 HOUR CLOCK 10-10 STARTS TOMORROW TO EASE THE WAITING
  • I'LL BE AROUND MORE TO KEEP THINGS ON TRACK

I think a one hour clock is too much of an over-correction and seems to be punishing everyone for the sins of a few.

I am not in favor of this and depending on what I am doing and where I am at when I start on the clock, I may not have adequate time or be able to formulate my pick (if the band or bands I may have planned on using have just been taken).

That's a good idea.  I think Manster will show up at some point.  Why don't we put shuke in Manster's slot (and let him choose right now), put Manster at the end of the draft instead of shuke, and let higgins go (and send Rush along with him)?

We generally use a one-hour clock at some point in these drafts.  A lot of people will send lists to other drafters if they know they won't be around and are in danger of coming up soon.  There are many of us who are around a lot and happy to take such lists - I know Binky, Uruk, Pip, rockaction, and I among many others have regularly taken them.  I just warn you not to send a late-night list to Binky, who will inevitably get drunk and be hungover the next day, missing your pick.  ;)

And stay out of Woolworth's!

A lot of the bands I was considering will likely be available in later rounds so, instead, I’ll channel back to my 16 year old self for this selection.

I have a vivid memory of putting in my new cassette  of The Joshua Tree for the first time in my little tape player. I played that first song, then rewound and repeated over and over and over. Cranked the volume all the way and listened again over and over again. It was my new favorite song ever and it probably took an hour before I got to “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”.

1:24 U2 “Where the Streets Have No Name”
I'd have no idea where to start for them. I'm really feeling "Out of Control" and "Bad" lately and my favourite album of theirs is Achtung Baby but it's hard to argue against the more epic classics

Even with a one hour clock (for 12 hours) with 33 people in this, you'll still only get to make one pick per day at best.

In God's Country is probably my favorite.

Sorry for my part. I didn’t know you were sick but I see simey had mentioned it so my bad. I was mostly talking out loud I guess but trying to get the draft “started” at least.

Anyway no hard feelings at all, but I am going to drop out in a little bit of shame and a little bit of anger but mostly in just obviously needing a break.

Thanks.

1.x.x - It Aint Over Til It's Over - Lenny Kravitz

commentary:  look, Lenny has a huge catalog with a ton of songs that you may love or hate. but this song is transcendent. the layering of the instruments - drums, bass, rhythm guitar, keyboards, strings, Lenny's falsetto - is masterful. then in the second half of the song he brings in a sitar...a ####### sitar! and to top it off, he closes the song with the horns from Earth, Wind & Fire. what?! c'mon...

this is less of a song, and more of an audio painting for your earholes. turn it up loud, close your eyes, and get lost in all the colors.

I know very few of his songs, so this intrigues me.

:lmao:    NV has had enough of your ####.

I know your mind is set, but I still wish you'd reconsider.  You didn't do anything to be ashamed and instead have been much of the glue holding this together until now!

Also, I think the rules* state that if you miss two consecutive music drafts, you have to conceive of and run the next one.

*The rules I just made up and that make virtually no sense.

I love Quadrophenia, it might be my favourite album of theirs but it's more the sum of its parts IMO.
I'd put "The Real Me" up against any of their material.

I've even got a soft spot for "Eminence Front". I remember Martha Quinn once joking about singing the lyrics as "M&Ms Front" and thought it was funny ... and yeah, I always sing it that way to myself now. I think the Mars Corporation are missing a great opportunity to market their candies with that particular song (assuming Messrs. Daltrey and Townshend are game).

It took 398 rounds for him to get drafted in Genrepalooza and here he comes in round #1.

Lenny Kravitz - comeback player of the year.

It seems like a good time to honor Mrs. R's request in the prior thread for some new family photos.  These are the kittens that have been making my life hell better for almost two weeks.

We look like kittens.

Kittens doing kitten-y things.

Bonus shot of their second night with me, when each of them brought a separate stuffed mouse to bed with me for comfort, which I found impossibly cute.

Which is which?

On the right in the first picture is Candy Says.  On the left is the other one named after a song, which I guess I won't state for spotlighting reasons but will just call "DS."   :lmao:

I was told by the foster mother that I could tell them apart because CS has a white V in front while DS's white part is more of a circle.  I've since then determined that you can also tell them apart because (1) CS always has a worried look, while DS is usually screaming at me, (2) CS has black paw pads while DS's are pink, and (3) CS has one tabby-striped toe on his back right foot.

If people on on-line in this thread there could be 10 picks easy in one hour. On several days a week I take about a 2 hour walk and if my pick came up during that period I would miss it on a one hour clock.

1.X - Sweet Thing by Van Morrison

Without invoking the Infinite Monkey Theorem, I don't think it's possible to improve upon Van's original.  One of the few songs where I like to wait for and pick off individual notes, chords, vocal inflections, etc.

Runner-ups in order were Wonderful Remark (and only the 8-minute version, not the 4:00 minutes of underacheivment version) and Into the Mystic.

@TripItUp
-marks into the mystic off my list…

While close, I thought Sweet Thing was clearly the best (in my somewhat objective estimation), where Wonderful Remark is definitely my favorite.  As a former Groton, CT resident, Into the Mystic will never not be special.

Mildly surprised Van made it to me.

Super cute!

HERE are our 2 demons.    They fell asleep on the youngest while hugging.

This will be a very rare draft where I don't take a Van Morrison song. It's a relief really as I had no clue what to take.

Oh hells yeah. This is the pick that I can really get behind. Ilov and I were trading lyrics to this song one night.

And I shall drive my chariot
Down your streets and cry
'Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite
And I don't know why'
And you shall take me strongly
In your arms again
And I will not remember
That I even felt the pain
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
Grow so old again

Since the Edge doesn't shred or solo very much, he kind of gets looked over for the chops he does possess. "Streets" is about as nice a rhythm line as you'll find in rock, and that slow crescendo opening with that soaring organ :chefskiss:

Earth, Wind, and Fire (with a revamped lineup since Maurice White's 2016 death) still tour. It would be cool to hear Kravitz come out of stage left unannounced at an EWF show and do this live.

We've done roughly 200 of these, trust me it will be fine.

Raise your hand if you had Lenny coming off the board in round 1
