THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (2 Viewers)

THIS IS THEIR WORST SONG!

The Clash - Dictator

Their Mick Jonesless Cut the Crap album isn't good but it has its moments.  Dictator isn't one of them.  It sounds like Joe Strummer being bludgeoned to death by a drum machine.

what song? I love everything they do and so many great 2nd best answers.
The Beast And Dragon, Adored

That's what I was going with, but I think they've got about fifteen that at various times I've liked better. I just thought the way that he sort of introduces/alludes to the songs on the album that were to come was pretty cool and special.

I think you've got a Supermarket theme going on today. First, The Boss found his Queen and then we got lost. I was going to say there is no bad Clash song, but I'll defer on this one. I know there's a dud in there somewhere.

But among songs that come to mind that I have actually taken time to listen to repeatedly over the years, I'll go with the worst song from his most phoned-in album, Hard Luck Stories from Landing on Water. There is absolutely nothing about it that is done well, and not a single one of Neil's strengths is evident. It's synthed to death (and not in an interesting way like many of the songs on Trans) and boasts horrific lyrics and a grinding, plodding beat that accomplishes nothing but giving the listener a headache. This is the essence of what "contractual obligation" sounds like.

This song is the opposite of swing

Great dominions they don't come cheap
Great dominions they just want you to leave
I got the meaning the meaning sat tight
Said it's not what you expected but it could be right

I owe a pick and this band is popular enough round these parts.

And this is a deep album track from their fifth, and absolutely fantastic but maybe less highly regarded album
We both went with Gimme Fiction songs. I think their best songs are off of that album, or maybe it was just the time in our life and the introduction to them. "I Turn My Camera On" is incendiary minimalism. "Sister Jack" is another hit. I love the one you picked. "I Summon You" is at times, their best off of that album, though if you give me a day I'll come back with a different one.

Very similar to my Tom Petty pick, they have so many albums and so many good songs.

And they have the hit you know from "The OC" and the song you know from Lisa Simpson. And the more modern songs after they got big. And the big songs from the big acclaimed albums... but****

They are my favourite band ever and this is their best song...

Remember the weight of the world
It's a sound that we used to buy
On cassette and forty five

3.06 - I Summon You - Spoon
####.

One of my favorite bands.  Thought they may last, but should've known.

Metal Detektor, 30 Gallon Tank, Everything Hits At Once, Me and the Bean, Don't You Evah, Who Makes Your Money-----all possible picks for me...............

This record is the wellspring for a whole passel of rock and blues subgenres. That start-stop rhythm has been imitated (& sampled) about to death, but that doesn't take away from the brilliance of the original.

There's no wankery here. These are grown men singing & playing about sex, and they aren't kidding around. Muddy's vocal is frightening in its intensity. The band is full of ringers, though, IIRC, Little Walter (who would normally play harp on this session) was unavailable so they had to sub someone in for him - some kid named Junior Wells.

Thanks for covering me @Binky The Doormat

I also love Muddy's mid-70s re-recording with Johnny Winter and James Cotton.

Waters was in his 60s at the time and his vocal pushes back defiantly on age. The year the record came out he met his last wife who was a teenager.

Dammit.  I went out foraging for wild edibles today (really) and then drank a lot of wine (really really), and I find I have eight (8!) pages to catch up on.

Btw, I think “Waterloo Sunset” is the Kinks’ best song — of my forties, anyway. My twenties would have been “Village Green Preservation…” — but Waterloo was in RS500, so I decided to go elsewhere.

For me, "This Time Tomorrow" is #1 and "Waterloo Sunset" #2.  But a billion that could be chosen as best.

Shoot, I was going to post the worst song called “My World,” but that would spotlight.

But there’s a worse one than Metallica’s, I think. (I won’t click the Metallica link.)

It Must Be Santa by Bob Dylan

maybe this is cheating because I bet a lot of great artists have bad Christmas music but this really takes the fruitcake

I would have gone with this one for sure!

I'm just catching up but hope we covered the Paul McCartney christmas song already, too.

Coincidentally, Ringo (Ringo!) had a fantastic Christmas album.

This Monterey Pop Festival ending is incredible. Hendrix lights a guitar on fire which seems like it can not be followed but then Ravi Shankar (spotlightingz!) drops a 20 minute solo where he does the dirtiest things to a sitar ever recorded.  God I love this movie.

I talked about this movie somewhere on this board, and I remember saying that somehow The Who destroying their guitars and Jimi setting his on fire still didn't light up the stage like what Ravi Shankar did.  I've never seen a more incredible live performance.

Oh my. The chills have returned as the ibuprofen wears off. Dang. Two nights of this. I’m listening to the Kinks, and am slightly unhappy with this development. My  entire upper left arm is red and puffy. Bollocks.

Yikes. Even at their sorest, my arms didn't break out. You may want to consider hitting a MedExpress.

The person I got the shot with had the same red puffiness, but thanks for the concern. If it doesn't subside by Monday, I'll definitely hit my doctor up. Just not sure I need to go to the clinic just yet.

Like A Virgin  -  Madonna

Good lord, I hate this.

I was beat
Incomplete
I'd been had, I was sad and blue

But you made me feel
Yeah, you made me feel
Shiny and new (Hoo)

Like a virgin
Touched for the very first time
Like a virgin
When your heart beats
Next to mine

Hoo!  Just awful.

This juxtaposes nicely with Muddy's "Mannish Boy"
