As to Marty Willson-Piper, ex-Mr. krista opened for him in Chicago, so I was at the show and somehow a friend and I got roped into manning his merch table.  He was a condescending diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick to both of us.  She didn't mind being treated like a hanger-on, because she kind of was, just happy to have interaction with him.  But I couldn't care less about him and was only doing a favor out of kindness, so being treated like crap wasn't welcomed.  Also I'm told that the artists give a portion of the proceeds of their sales to the people manning the table, which he didn't.  I didn't need or care about the money, but again it shows his poor form.  The Scottie Pippen of rock tipping.

I can't leave Montrose off this list. They were recently brought up in another thread so I thought for sure someone would take them. I also have to go a bit chalky with this pick since their best song was also probably their most well known. But, the fact that it has been a staple of Sammy's for years regardless of who he's playing with says a lot. Nice!  When we lived in Reno area I had friends who would go see Hagar at Tahoe every year.  Go to Cabo wabo cantina, the whole thing......we got drug to it one time haha.  I'm not much of a Hagar fan.....the whole mas tequila party thing doesn't do it for me...pretty cheeseball...BUT Montrose came out and played, and of course they played Rock Candy, Bad Motor Scooter, etc..... That made the show worth it for me.....Montrose was better than any other Hagar stuff, imo

Im not even sure this is my favorite, but it is at the moment.  Coulda went.... Borracho, Carnival, Hit the City, Don't forget Me, Phantasmagoria Blues, amongst others....best Blues singer of our generation, imo.

Amazing this dude is still alive actually..

 
I ventured into the Mass Shooting thread in the bad place here. I can’t believe we aren’t able to find any reasonable solutions to problems like gun violence. All the posters there were so reasonable.

Spotify wrapped making up genres apparently.  My top genres are Ambeat and Metropopolis?  Top 5 artists for 2021 are 4 jazz hip-hop artists and Kim Petras.  And my "music aura" is "spooky and chill".  :shrug:

R&B from 1990 on was criminally undervalued in this draft. The draft ended up being a middle aged white guy draft.**  There is nothing wrong with that, I made some middle aged white guy picks myself but with this pick and several others I found myself drafting against that tendency to purposefully diversify the songs.   

I love this song and it is one of the best of its genre from the past 10 years, probably top 5 for me.  Miguel is just an amazing artist and I couldn't let his best song go undrafted.  

When is the next draft?

I'm a total joneser fly fisherman.....tie my own and everything.  Fly fishing with Les Claypool is on my bucket list......saw him with Flying Frog Brigade at the Crystal Ballroom in the early 2000's.   Super cool show.

It would have been Borracho or Methamphetamine Blues for me. He’s one of the greats. Like a Tom Waits who can actually sing.

I’m listening to my top 100 songs. It’s a nice ride back through the year. I remember which times of year I wore certain songs out and especially remember what draft was going on for when I was playing the songs. I’ve got a ton of songs different GP4 playlists, songs and from the 2 album draft. 
 

Aretha was my number 1 and I was the top 0.04% of Aretha listeners.

I think that was due to the fact that 1990 wasn't a particularly good year for R&B songs IMO.

I'm talking about 1990 - 2021.

Maybe 10 songs drafted total for a 30 year span.

I just thought the genre wad underdrafted.  Not a big deal, just an observation.

It was a metal year for me, I guess.  top 5 artists:   opeth, Mastodon, gojira, Radiohead, Megadeth.  no surprise, like you with Aretha- top <1% of Opeth listeners.

I guess I also need to make my 20th round pick.  Still deciding…

 
My aura is “happy” and “confused.”

Three of my top five songs were from Frightened Rabbit.  I really took my job seriously in trying to choose their “best” song.   :lmao:    The other two were “Ballad of El Goodo” (duh) and…“Where Does The Time Go” by the Aussie funk band The Bamboos.   :loco:

Catching up now, I'll drop my last 3 in rapid succession.

Round 18 - Bastille - Quarter Past Midnight

Like most of their songs, driven by Dan Smith's vocals.  I feel like this one captures the spirit of chasing the thrill of a good time.  Their songs can be a bit hit or miss for me, but I really like this one.  I also like Flaws and Oblivion. 

 
Round 19 - Dragonforce - Soldiers of the Wasteland

How can you go wrong with a nearly 10 minute long power metal song?  Easily if you're my wife, who says it sounds like "bad video game music"  :lmao:   I, on the other hand, am a sucker for some epic adventures and frantic drumming and guitar work  :headbang:

 
Story time before my last pick - this artist opened up for Kelly Clarkson at the local fair, whose tour bus broke down on the way to the show.  So, he had to do an extra long set to stall, and he was actually quite good.  Both my wife and her friend ended up buying his album, and my wife and I saw him on his own when he did a small show nearby not far away.  This contemplative song about a failed relationship is my favorite of his.

Can't argue with this one.....I woulda went with Cold Gin, Strutter, or She.....such a great rock song!.....early Kiss on vinyl had a huge influence on me.  All my buddies older siblings were into em.....the makeup, the aura......it was cool......I realized later how cheesy it all is, but I still dig the old stuff.....it's good rock and roll
