Will there be any more of the lengthy columns like you wrote last week, or should we just expect the ombudsman to be responding briefly to questions and running shtick from now on? Either one is fine, i just want to adjust my expectations accordingly.

Dear Mad Max,I don't know what to tell you here. Bannings are often the whim of an arbitrary and capricious mod. I have a few aliai that I'd like to resurrect myself, most of which were purged in a thread where you were encouraged to post with your alias. Dutifully, I did this and lost a few brave soldiers that day. They did nothing wrong other than incur the wrath of a moderator drunk with power.

I wish you the best of luck getting ol' Ray back, but I certainly can't promise anything here. I'd suggest sending someone a message. Maybe fake mod Rude Dude can help you out.

Two related questions:

1) Have we ever tried an escalation process? I'm thinking along the lines of yellow cards and red cards in soccer. What I like about this is it would serve as a warning for borderline calls from posters who normally never cross the line. At the same time, it's not like you HAVE TO accumulate multiple yellows to get tossed; a head butt to the chest, regardless of what the other guy said about your sister, is still an automatic red.

2) Does the faceless mod ever call people out for diving? High number of absurd fishing attempts of late (just found out son is being abused; broke up with my psycho gf AND assaulted her lover AND she is bi AND I'm exhausted and losing track how many lies we got going there; I'm supporting a woman with five kids but we've never done the deed). I mean, it's getting so lame, I feel like I'm in the Harlequin Romance forum.

The invision software does have a warn level and the ability to explain warnings, but IIRC the reason they don't use it is that it's so time consuming, and it just gives people one more thing to argue about. And that's before we get into the How come I got warned for that, but GM didn't, or How come I got banned for that, but Truck only got warned? And so on.

Hello Mr. the rover,I am not freaking kidding you. The Shark Pool quotes thread was a pretty good one, but I don't think it was epic stuff or anything. Still, it chips away at the "same as day one" myth and lends more credibility to "same as day 2693."

I have a feeling some uptight SP regular sent off a scathing missive to Mr. Bryant threatening to pull one or more subscriptions if the incessant mockery didn't cease. I have no idea who might have done that, though.

Joe is a populist and often makes judgments based on offending the least number of people. Remember that poll question asking for opinions about Alex Jones? Same idea.

Sometimes change is good. I don't think there was anything in that thread that warranted removal, but then again, it wasn't exactly fresh anymore either. These things can challenge the user base to find some fresh material.

What bothers this ombudsman is the removal of completely innocuous threads like this one. What's really troubling is how this poor guy was asking for some honest help, and the thread gets chopped down for no apparent reason. You'd think there would be some effort to inform people in there. If it was closed by accident, I wonder how confused a mod would have to be to slip up that badly. Hopefully they aren't in charge of applying for government education assistance.

If you really want the quotes from "sharks" thread back, set up us a new one.
