So what's the deal with Thomas Jones thus far?

Are owners concerned with his lackluster performance against two solid D's? Is now a good time to buy low?

The Jets offensive line can't run block. They couldn't run block last year, and they can't run block this year. I told anyone who would listen that the problem wasn't that the Jets' RB's were so awful last year, it was because the O line can't run block. Jones can't fix that. Yet all the pundits went off on rants about how TJ would fix everything. He can't, and he won't. What you have seen so far is what you should expect for the rest of the season. He'll have a few good games, the Jets won't be playing the Pats or Ravens all year, but he's a weak #2 RB. Very good bye week #3 RB. That is his value. I'm a Jets homer, and I packaged him in a deal with Cotchery for Marvin Harrison in a dynasty league this year. Yes, I was deep at RB.... but TJ os not a viable #2 unless the rest of a roster is otherwise loaded.

Yes, I'm concerned. He's played against solid run defense, BUT the Jets OL has looked horrible. Combine that with the horrible QB situation and you have problems. I think by year's end he may be a solid #3RB (where he fits in for me), but no way will he put up RB2 numbers. Think Edge last year at Arizona. 1100 total yds, 3.5 ypc, 6 Td's.

LT vs NE 18 rushes 43 yards

Rudi vs Bal 18 rushes 50 yards

This is what the top notch #1 RBs can do against the same D's

Jones vs NE 14 rushes 42 yards

vs Bal 24 rushes 67 yards

Relax people... Buy low.

I think he'll have a few good weeks here and there, but as Rovers noted above, the OL is not blocking well right now. And while TJ is a solid back, he's not a guy that's going to get it done by himself.

The next few weeks against Miami, Buffalo and the Giants will be telling, but if you're expecting 1300 rushing yards and 10+ TDs, you're probably going to come away disappointed. What I would like to see is Mangini & Co. throw the ball to TJ in the flat to give him a bit more space a la with Leon. TJ has shown he's a very good pass catching RB.
