Thomas Rawls, RB, CMU/Seahawks (1 Viewer)

Rawls will "most definitely" be ready for camp

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls will 'most definitely' be ready for cam

SEATTLE -- Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls said Sunday that he expects to be full go for the start of training camp.

"Rehab is going phenomenal," Rawls said before Richard Sherman's annual charity softball game. "Running, cutting, working hard, getting back out there. I'm looking forward to being out there the first week. Rehab has been going phenomenal this whole offseason. I don't have a break because I've gotta work 10 times harder. So I'm excited to come back and fill that void in that backfield."

Asked if he'd be full go for the start of training camp, Rawls added, "Most definitely."

The second-year back suffered a fractured ankle and ligament damage during a Dec. 13 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Rawls did not participate in any of the Seahawks' spring practices.

Pete Carroll said last month that he "absolutely" expects Rawls to be ready for the start of the season, but the team has maintained all along that it won't rush him during the summer.

"I think we'll probably ease into training camp," Carroll said in May.

"We won't rush him at that time. We'll just use all the six weeks or something in there, and we'll see what we can take advantage of."

The Seahawks drafted three running backs -- C.J. Prosise, Alex Collins and Zac Brooks -- and will likely want to get a long look at them during training camp.

Rawls piled up 830 yards as a rookie and led the NFL with 5.65 yards per carry. With Marshawn Lynch retired, he is in line to be the Seahawks' primary ball carrier if healthy.

Rawls passed his physical, per the NFL transaction wire today, though they're apparently still taking it slow.

This is accurate. Rawls no longer on PUP. Could be practicing Tuesday.

"Collins, who stole the show during a mock game in which the Seahawks played at full tempo, though not quite full contact." Link

Take it with a grain of salt of course but it's still better than hearing, "Collins looked like trash. Fumbling 3 times and not seeing his lanes."

I like Collins but when Rawls is rolling I think he will be the workhorse. Collins and Michael I think will compete for the back up role and Prosise as a CoP.

Thomas Rawls (ankle) will be brought along slowly in camp.
"We're going to be careful," coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday. "There's no need to rush him at all. A very violent football player. He needs time to get ready to play the way he does, so we're going to take however long that is. I don't really have a schedule at this point." Carroll's caution is an indication Rawls is still in for a major role as the Seahawks' early-down bell-cow. With his health clarifying, Rawls is quickly shaping up as a potential third- to fourth-round bargain.

Would love to hear where the community is currently at with this guy. Is Carrol just using coach speak when referring to cmike and a 1-2 punch?

There are a lot of people who believe Carroll uses hyperbole when talking about his players and wears a deep shade of rose colored glasses.  I think he's optimistic for sure, but I can't recall a case where he hasn't been really forthcoming with the truth on his evaluation of a player.  Take Graham's injury timeline as an example, and Rawls himself.  I think right now some folks should really consider buying Michael low, or selling Rawls high--I don't think this is coachspeak.

As someone who actually had CMike pegged correctly... gotta believe he has some real value here.

Carrol didn't say 1a-and-1b, he said a 1-2 punch, which is needed in todays NFL. This also speaks well towards having at least a modicum of trust now in CMike, which was always an issue. They had 350 carries at RB last year and that not a lot to be splitting up. Its very low actually. Not sure if that changes.

ESPN Seahawks reporter Sheil Kapadia believes Thomas Rawls remains entrenched as the team's starting running back, but suggests Rawls could lose "six to eight touches per game" to Christine Michael.
Kapadia projects Rawls at 15 carries per game to open the year, with Michael at seven and "two to the other backs," consisting of C.J. Prosise and Alex Collins. The Seahawks believe Michael has had enough of an "awakening" that he has become a large part of their offensive plans. Rawls remains a target in the fifth round of fantasy drafts. C-Mike is worthy of a late-round flyer.

Thomas Rawls (ankle) has resumed practicing without limitations, and ESPN Seahawks reporter Sheil Kapadia says Rawls is "on track to start the opener."
Despite Christine Michael's monster preseason, the Seattle beat writers foresee Rawls as the Week 1 lead back. "He looks really good and I think the signs are very positive that he's going to be ready in a couple weeks to play," coach Pete Carroll said Sunday. Kapadia previously projected Rawls to log 15 carries in Week 1 versus Miami, with Michael handling seven rushing attempts.

I think maybe people are getting a little heady about Michael overtaking Rawls. We haven't seen Rawls in PS but there was nothing wrong last year. I'm taking the positive yardage by Michael as a good sign for Rawls, if the run game is working then it's working. Giddyup.

I think it's Carroll rope-a-dope. They know what they have in Rawls. No need to take the car out of the garage. I'll :blackdot: this thread and come back, but I think a lot of people are gonna be scratching their heads asking why this guy was going in the 4th in drafts.

Health is a bigger concern to me than Michael. That's still a little hazy for me.

Agree 100%.

I'm hearing whispers (source close to the team) that this is Rawls backfield and they intend to ride him heavily right off the bat. The coaches are happy with the c-Mike turn around but they still don't trust him. If this is true Rawls is super undervalued right now.

You DM me this info. You aren't supposed to come in here and shout it out from the roof tops.

Meh I don't own him and I can't get him. Why not help some people out.
I was joking Milkman. Posting this kind of stuff is a big part of the board. We even have a cyborg named Faust that apparently has devoted himself to spreading this kind of info on the board.

This is my disconnect. People are acting like Rawls is coming off an MCL/ACL or a torn Achilles in Week 17 or has some history of a persistent nagging injury that has flared back up. My understanding it is a run-off-the-mill (by NFL standards) ankle injury.  And this isn't exactly Barry Sanders who needs every flick of agility to be productive. Can't recall seeing a guy so drastically discounted for such a blasé injury.

So without any pre-season action for us to see how he's doing, how many people will be confidently rolling him out week 1 against Miami?

This is what I have been expecting.

You think that's the only reason people are discounting him?  There's quite a bit to be concerned about IMO.
A few second/third day draft picks (one a COP converted WR) and the thrice cut Christine Michael? Teams need other RBs. I'm not concerned with that at all.

His sample size is pretty small. No? And they drafted two rbs. And insert joke here. Cmike has looked decent.

Im actually surprised so many in the pool are acting like he is adp

It is small, agreed. But I saw 0.0% in that sample size to give me any doubt. He looked like a RB1 in every game he played. This isn't a Kevan Barlow situation.

I think it'dbe a bit blind to think that Michael doesn't eat into some of those touches, and I'd be floored if Prosise wasn't the 3rd down / two minute back.  Throw the ankle in there and it's too much to overlook IMO.  I own no shares of these guys, and am pleased with that.  Going to be fascinating to see what shakes out and I look forward to revisiting later in the season.

Depends on your other options, but Mia defense has looked terrible. For all we know Carroll says that at the time a lot of teams are looking for trade options, pump up the market for cmike. Game could get out of hand early, and if it's that game flow is be worried that cmike gets the garbage time, so I'm a little tentative for week one. I'm ok rolling him out as a flex or rb2. Maybe you get rb1 numbers. I think the lack of preseason work points to preservation of a key piece of the offense, but he may take a couple weeks to get into "game shape", and Seattle starts slow some years. So I'm not "comfortable" for week 1, but I'd start him over anyone in the gio-yeldon range.

I guess I just find it weird that some people think a 3rd/4th is too much to risk on a guy whose pro-rated half-season stats would make him a top 5 RB. That's exactly the type of gamble that if it hits you are guaranteed a playoff spot. We aren't talking a mid- or late-first here like where Barlow was going.

Yeah but how much of it was due to fresh legs?  You see it a lot where some guy comes on strong in week 8 when defenders are already beaten up for half a season

Carroll said #Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls continued to have a great week. Said "there's no question he looks to be able to play in the opener."

This is where those "Im starting Rawls over..." threads are useful.

At this point, barring any setbacks I plan on rolling with Rawls week 1.  My first alternate would be Crowell or Duke.
