Those recycling commercials have been on CONSTANTLY (1 Viewer)

Know what I'm talking about?  Is this just a local NYC area Fios thing?  Or a nationwide issue?

For months now, maybe longer, no matter what I'm watching and no matter what network -- CNN, football, Star Wars -- several times per night, maybe per hour, two commercials come on back-to-back, in which shampoo bottles come back as combs or something. In the first one there is a bon iver tune in the background with a boy and his dad; second one is a girl and her mom with some classical song. The end includes a screen for some environmental organization. That organization's budget must be off the charts, because I've never seen a commercial played that frequently across so many networks for such a long time period. What the hell?  I'm half assuming there's some kind of subliminal message in it and it's run by the government and they're trying to brainwash the public, because no way does anyone care THIS much abou recycling shampoo bottles.

Have others noticed this?  I'll hang up and go watch recycling commercials.

On Xfinity, outside DC in VA. Never seen them. I switched this summer from FiOS, and never saw them there.

Odd, because usually we in the DC area get ads like that because the organization is trying to get into the minds of elected officials and their staffs.

Sounds like Mrs. O thinks you lack willpower.

In 2013 Verizon introduced a new program called AdChoice Plus.  For 4.99 a month, customers can select categories of advertisements they want to reduce, including political, "adult", pharmaceutical, and the most popular option, food.  People looking to avoid temptation for themselves or family members can't altogether eliminate food commercials - advertisers can pay a premium to ensure their ads still show - but people looking to lose some holiday pounds can cut down on the pizza and junk food commercials and watch generic, unblocked categories instead.
