Thought's on Coke's Super Bowl ad (1 Viewer)

Trolling idiots in mainstream advertising is underrated. Tons of free press with basically zero downside. Masterfully done by Coke.

I don't see a problem. ETA: The party I was a part of was....... lively, so I barely saw tha game and can't for the life of me remember a single commercial that stood out enough to warrant remembering. If the Transformers commerical was real for a new movie and nost just a transformer in a commerical, I guess that was cool. But really, there is a problem with this ad? People really suck sometimes.

it is sort of like an honor to have people singing a song about how great america is in there own language so hey i saw it and was like damn straight on that brohans take that to the bank

I don't have a problem with it either, and as Tobias correctly said....the advertising they got out of it was more than just the 30 seconds they paid for.

It did get me thinking, though....what if they did the same ad with The Star Spangled Banner as the song? Would you still feel the same?

i probably would not because like i said it is an honor to have people translate it to there language and hey long story short we are all speaking english not united states of american anyhow so what is the big deal i do not get it on the coke ad i sort of saw it as saying we are the melting pot and we come from all over and no matter what language you say it in we are all american so stop trying to have a fight about insignificant differences and look at the one big thing we have in common brohans take that to the bank

I know a lot of the idiot backlash was about how "this is America, speak English here!" but when I first saw it I was taking the other approach. I could see people from other countries being offended that their language is being used to sing that song. I could definitely see a lot of pissed off Americans if some song pumping up Chinese nationalism was being sung in English.

I probably wouldn't like it as much because The Star Spangled Banner is a terrible, terrible song.

Paid for by The Committee to Change the Anthem to This Land is Your Land

Thought it was a great commercial, and would have felt the same if it was the National Anthem.

I had much bigger concerns about Chevy's "look at me, I honor soldiers!!" commercial, personally.

Made me sick. I couldn't understand 90% of the commercial. Want me to buy your product, put it in damn English.

I'm gonna have to make two trips to get all of this to the bank.

I have no problem with it. It's a company, it's not the government, and they can make the commercial decisions they like, as long as they are being honest and operating within the law.

From a marketing standpoint you have to balance out that they will piss off some people and probably lead to some deciding not to buy the product, and the fact that they will get some attention because of the supposed controversy, and that some will decide to buy the product because of the ad.

Don't worry, it's a compost pile and it gets better with age.

You'd think that right-wing America would realize just how far outside the mainstream they are on this subject when COKE runs a multicultural Super Bowl ad.

Coke + Super Bowl is pretty much the definition of the mainstream.

let me guess, it's middle America that has a problem with it.
Not even sure it is Middle of America so much as a subset based on age. When I saw the commerical my first thought was "this is a cool commercial", my second thought was "my in-laws will b&c about singing that song in a language other than English". Both thoughts were correct - it was a cool commercial and my in-laws (and their friends of the same age group that were in attendance) went on and on about the whole speak English in America thing. So maybe it is an age demographic thing as well as a political affiliation thing.

Those people probably aren't on Twitter, though.

Wasn't that Budweiser?

I was offended by all the 'we care about XXXX" commercials last night. You're a corporation - you don't care about anything but maximizing shareholder equity.

Right wingers infected with rabies, are frothing at their mouth again. The biracial married couples Cheerios commercial sent them off the cliff because the mere concept of black husbands and white wives ( or vice verse) is still an alien concept to these idiot bigot's racist minds. Now the Super Bowl's Coca Cola commercial which depicts Americans of all nationalities, singing "America the Beautiful" with several verses being spoken in several foreign languages, thus causing the Murika Patriots ( The La Li Lu Le Lo?) to flip their ####s inside out three times over. A boycott is in effect once again. Here is hoping that every food related products in this country ends up on the left side of the political spectrum that the bigot community have nothing else to boycott to the point where they'll do this country and the world a favor by inadvertently starve themselves to death so that we can finally make progress.

you should be singing the song in Chinese mandarin, anyways.

They do own you, don't they?

Shocking that you would hate America's national anthem.

I am sorry. Did you want me to say it in French?

The commercial is harmless and trivial, the concept that a country should have an official language strikes me as a good idea. Certainly a large country needs something to tie it together.
