I meant Williams as in Reggie Williams. The same guy who has spent more time time in Del Rio's doghouse than the family German Shepherd. I see your point about Jones as he has been much more consistent than Williams but I still stick to my guns that they'll both be gone by the start of the regular season. The Man With No Name said:Do you mean Williamson to be cut in training camp? What Jax should have done was thrown a ton of money at Moss and let his ability to draw double and triple teams allow the current WRs to really blossom. They need experience and not under archivers. Moulds might even be a good fit to teach some of these young guys the ropes--both Lee Evans and Peerless Price benefited from his tutelage.

You answered your own queston since "D" is the only question listed.Oh, and nice job staying on topic, btw.what was the question?A) Who is going to destroy our countryB) Who is the anti-christC) Who's middle name is the source of stupid debateD) Hoosier Daddy?Barack Obama is the Answer.
isn't that what the patriots do? they realize that throwing huge offers at the best FAs is cap doom, so they bring in a bunch of undervalued guys and see who sticks. until moss, every patriots WR free-agent (and other positions too) was a "dart".personally, i like their approach. They are just throwing darts at this point.Who is calling the shots over there ?
I wasn't comparing Porter to Berrian at that point, I was comparing Porter to the players he was touted to be replacing. Porter has never been overhyped because he's been compared to Berrian.Bottom line, if you want a younger ascending player it's going to cost you more than an older declining player in most instances even if you pretend there hasn't been a lot more off-field baggage with Porter.Neither has berrian. There are reasons people are overly down on Porter now...- He was a malcontent off the field. I give him props for having the nad to park in Al Davis's parking spot in an attempt to get released/traded. Now that's just classic.I'm really torn on this one. Porter isn't as bad as people around here label him.
- He was SOOO overhyped for so long. There were raider fans saying Porter was going to step in and replace Tim Brown without skipping a beat. Pretty lofty expectations by the FF community for a guy that's never had 1k yard season.
- Porter will be 30 this season and Berrian 27. Berrian has progressively gotten better each season while Porter seems to have peaked four years ago(just about the age Barrian is now).![]()
If that happens, Williamson will lead the league in botched returns and will cost Jacksonville a couple wins.I see Troy Williamson brought in as a KR/PR, maybe a few deep threats a la Devin Hester. Jones Drew has been the return specialist over the last 2 years but as he is becoming "more" of a featurted RB they bring in someone a little more expendable.
difference is, the Patriots don't miss. Rodney Harrison, Junior Seau, Roosevelt Colvin, Corey Dillon, and I'm probably missing a few were all brought in for specific reasons and were values. Those are the players New England goes after, not WRs who can't catch.isn't that what the patriots do? they realize that throwing huge offers at the best FAs is cap doom, so they bring in a bunch of undervalued guys and see who sticks. until moss, every patriots WR free-agent (and other positions too) was a "dart".personally, i like their approach. They are just throwing darts at this point.Who is calling the shots over there ?
the level of transactions we're talking about here are less like colvin and dillon and more like kelley washington, jabar gaffney, and reche caldwell. the patriots miss. they don't take big shots and miss, but they take alot of small shots that don't exactly pan out.difference is, the Patriots don't miss. Looking at this list the topic could be "Rate these bottom tier WRs"PorterWilliamsNorthcuttWho caresJerry PorterTroy WilliamsonReggie WilliamsDennis NorthcuttMatt JonesJohn BroussardMike WalkerCharles Sharon(PS)Who starts?Think Jones or Williams is traded?
Or ever was.The '76 Buccaneers were bad, but I don't think it was due to incompetence. He came from the Raiders. How many coaches have they burned through? I'm willing to give any player a reprieve if they're a malcontent for Oakland. That team is rapidly becoming the most incompetent franchise there is.

I'm with you...in a thirty team league maybe.Reggie Williams still looking like he will be a top # 2 WR in Jacksonville?
I thought he meant between all the #2 calibre WRs they have in JAX, Williams would be the best #2 WR there. For what it's worth, there was a good thread on Jerry Porter a few days back.I'm with you...in a thirty team league maybe.Reggie Williams still looking like he will be a top # 2 WR in Jacksonville?![]()
"There is no question in my mind that (David) Garrard-to-(Jerry) Porter is going to be a combination that will be very productive for us," said Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio.
Porter’s contribution to the Jaguars will not be able to be measured in statistics alone, as he will likely command double-teams that should open up the underneath of the field for guys like Reggie Williams, Dennis Northcutt, and Marcedes Lewis. Although Porter has the albatross of a big contract around his neck, 6 years/$30 million, his expectations are tempered in terms of production.
"I don't go out and say I'm going to have 100 catches and 2,000 yards. It's not going to happen," Porter, the former Oakland Raiders receiver said. "I am going to go out and bust my butt every play whether it will be running, blocking or catching the ball. Just helping the team."
Although the Jaguars don’t expect Porter to reach triple-digits in terms of receptions...
I wasn't referring to him being a good #2 FF WR I was simply asking if he would make it into one of the top two spots on the Jaguars team.I know he wouldn't be a good #2 WR in FF. Hell, he was the 5th WR I just picked in my new dynasty league.I'm with you...in a thirty team league maybe. :XReggie Williams still looking like he will be a top # 2 WR in Jacksonville?
Have they ever tried Matt Jones as a KR?I thought they drafted....Chauncey (can't keep em' all straight) to be a KR?If that happens, Williamson will lead the league in botched returns and will cost Jacksonville a couple wins.I see Troy Williamson brought in as a KR/PR, maybe a few deep threats a la Devin Hester. Sharon was cutThere's a lot of Broussard and Sharon fans in Jacksonville that think one or the other is going to turn out to be great, but then again their were a lot of Cortez Hankton fans that though the same thing.
My god, this may be the top WR corps in the league. Nothing says "objective observation" like an article in June from the official team website.According to the article linked below, Mike Walker is making diving catches and Troy Williamson hasn't dropped a pass yet. Also Reggie Williams seems to have locked down the #2 WR spot.

Actually, its not all spin. I can attest that Williamson has been really impressive thus far for a guy with little expectations, as I have been able to see the workouts personally. Great rapport with Garrard and he has a great attitude towards his situation. Walker has been stealing the show thus far, however, but he is still not 100%; I believe he's only working out with the team 1x a week.My god, this may be the top WR corps in the league. I'm sorry, was I blocking all the other great information coming in on the Jax WRs?My god, this may be the top WR corps in the league. Nothing says "objective observation" like an article in June from the official team website.
Nope, and I don't have any problem with you posting it. And I shouldn't have been so smarmy. But I think any mini-camp fluff piece, let alone one from jaguars.com, needs to come with a disclaimer. This is more my own pet peeve. And really, this current Jags WR roster corps is kind of an offseason all-star team. Porter, Reg Williams, Williamson, Matt Jones, I think I have read offseason "look out now, this guy is looking good!" reports on all those guys.I'm sorry, was I blocking all the other great information coming in on the Jax WRs?My god, this may be the top WR corps in the league. In another segment Vic said he thought they'd carry only 5 wides because carrying 4 TEs provides more special team performers. I'm going to guess right now that that's wrong. Northcutt was returning punts last year and Broussard has the makings of a fine kick returner though that job may remain MJD's. Still, I expect them to keep six -- these six.Porter, Williams, Northcutt, Williamson, Walker, Broussard. So, I don't think Matt Jones is going to cut it. D'Juan Woods will probably end up on the practice squad. Jones will probably sign elsewhere and take a path similar to Ashley Lelie if not worse. It sounds a little like starting Porter and Williams with Northcutt in the slot is a the simple answer to a question being over-complicated."Ask Vic" Ketchman "said' the other day that it looked like it would be Porter, Williams, Northcutt, Williamson, and one other.
Williamson always does well before pads are on.According to the article linked below, Mike Walker is making diving catches and Troy Williamson hasn't dropped a pass yet. Also Reggie Williams seems to have locked down the #2 WR spot.

He looked good in the Viking's OTAs last year too.ouchThe odd man out appears to be former first-round choice Matt Jones. Jones' poor work ethic has caught up to him. Despite his great speed and size, Jones' production continues to drop. He went from 41 catches for 643 yards in 2006 to 24 catches and 317 yards last year. John Broussard, a seventh-rounder, shows some promise and could beat out Jones as the fifth receiver.
My theory is he just said that to send Walker dynasty owners into a panic.Cleat Spike said:A bit more info from John Clayton on the WRs....What we learned from minicamp.
We already knew most of this but here's his spin...
What we learned from minicamp
The roles of the wide receivers were established. Reggie Williams, coming off his best season with 10 touchdown receptions, will start at flanker. Porter will work as the split end, but Williamson will also get some time there. Williamson's deep speed was impressive, which was expected. What made Del Rio feel even better about the trade with the Vikings was how well Williamson caught the ball. Dennis Northcutt, who caught 44 passes for 601 yards last season, will work from the slot.

The Jaguars also came out of minicamp feeling positive about tight end Marcedes Lewis, even though he's battled knee problems this offseason. The 2006 first-round pick looks as though he's ready to have a breakthrough year. He caught 37 passes for 391 yards and two touchdowns last season. Garrard, who's emerging as a potential star at quarterback, will have plenty of weapons to move the offense.
Injury analysis
The biggest concern is at tight end. Lewis is coming off knee surgery. George Wrighster might not be ready for camp because of knee surgery. Greg Estandia is coming off shoulder surgery but should be ready for camp.
Also, Porter has missed time this offseason with leg problems. There is some concern about the knee of WR Mike Walker. Mathis is coming off a torn quad from last year, but he was fine at the minicamp.
I don't get the small blurb on Walker here. He drops that there is concern about Walker's knee? What is he generalizing off of last season? There hasn't really been any reports that his knee had flaired up again, right? Sounds like he just wanted to mention Walkers name, but that's all he had on him? Why not say he practiced earlier than expected and all signs seem to point to the knee holding up this season!
I think that's it, there's some concern and there will be til he plays a number of games and makes them confident it'll hold up. When returning from a knee injury, the knee often swells up each day and goes back down in time to do it again the next day. After some time, of course, this doesn't happen anymore but you can't look at a swollen knee and be confident. That's all just part of normal knee rehab. Also, Porter has missed time this offseason with leg problems. There is some concern about the knee of WR Mike Walker. New WR to a new team, not much time to learn a new system. Chemistry, rapport and confidence from and with his QB? He might be back, but I would think his season would be hampered to a degree. Maybe we should think of it as having one hand tied behind his back.Porter may not be 100% to start the season but he'll be back at some point. IMO he's still the guy.
Add to that that the leading Jax WR the last two seasons topped out at around 650 receiving yards, and that's just not a good situation.New WR to a new team, not much time to learn a new system. And 100% of Porter is? Terry Glenn, Sammie Parker, what exactly? Porter is mediocre healthy. He got beat out by Curry last year. I wasn't high on Porter before and now he is dropping like a rock IMO.The person I worry about here is Garrard. I was looking at him as a nice sleeper. Now it is looking like he won't have anyone to throw to. Unless this WR group gets healthy before the season I would have a tough time taking Garrard at where he is being drafted.Porter may not be 100% to start the season but he'll be back at some point. IMO he's still the guy.
