Thousands of Boston Students Just Walked Out of Class to Save Their Schools (1 Viewer)

Props to the students for organizing. I think this is a worthwhile effort, they probably deserve some applause in here. We like to crucify the youngsters at times but this is a protest even adults wish they could organize.

Some group made up of 20 something hipsters had to spearhead this somewhere along the way...

GE is getting a tax cut to relocate to Boston, but they should rescind that tax cut so they'll do what? Not relocate? Am I reading this right?

Say what you will about this new generation, but they like their causes. If you can get them focused on the right thing, they're a force.

Is it egregious or something?  GE will bring a ton of high paying jobs and likely partner with local schools on research.

I for one am so glad we are raising little activists. Forget the 3 R's.  Teach them how to protest.  Well guess what kiddos your opinion doesn't matter at all.  You see schools are run by adults (or should be) because we are more wise then you.  We know what's right.   Now get back to class.

Just not understanding their point. I assume without the tax break GE won't relocate. That $25m isn't going into the coffers either way.

Voting is done with dollars (and those who have them), not broke ### kids still living with their parents.

What exactly is the downside to GE receiving a tax break to relocate?  Ever wonder why so many companies are "headquartered" in Delaware?  tax breaks, son. Stay IN school and read up on it and you'll see they used the Wal-Mart philosophy of mass volume.  Yeah, on the outside looking in, it appears that one "BIG BAD" company gets a break while suffering ensues everywhere else but if you look at the big picture you soon see that the volume of the thing begets more volume and, over time, allows a state to have a nice, steady, dependable influx in the form of economy, cash, and intangibles.

PS-No state tax in Delaware, either and one of the best state-funded D.O.T.s around.

You could do worse.

They would have relocated, just not to Boston.  Maybe Boston doesn't want them?  changed their minds?

These are solid jobs.  They are always going to be in high demand from local economies.

Sorry but this is the result of the sort of idea that a guy like Bernie Sanders promotes. Corporations need to pay for everything and they need to be punished at the same time. We can't give them tax breaks because they're evil and rich and they can afford it.

Is it any wonder that when you hear this nonsense repeated and cheered that this sort of protest would be the result?

Sound just like my Trump fan friends.

Last bunch of little protesters were the worthless baby boomers who are now the plight of the millennials.

This link has some more info on why people are against this. I don't understand the protestors, but here is more info.

I thought it was dumb when Michigan heavily capped the newly established tax credits they put in place for the movie industry. It seemed to be growing well. There were investments coming for studios, people were getting training, etc. That was a case of the Rs eliminating a D pro business initiative. I feel bad for those caught in the middle. I knew some people that got training in film related professions because there was a demand and that demand is gone.

How many straw men did Tim fit into these 4 sentences? I'm counting 6, maybe 7.

They're supporting a guy whose economic ideas are no better, perhaps even worse.
Believe me. I have no idea what Trump's economic ideas are. I assume they are terrific.

However, I am pretty confident that Sanders vs Trump in terms of economics- Trump would be better. Then again, the standard is not very high to achieve to be 'better' than a guy who doesn't understand basic finance.

Lots of school extracurricular stuff has been 86'd hard over the last many years especially after the recession. You want to do anything now you have to fins a teacher willing to go way beyond in terms of sponsoring and spear heading to have much happen at public schools anymore, especially in the bigger cities and metro areas.

It's all about having 6 hours a day to chop up for math and reading, then if we can squeeze in some science and social studies that's about it.

Your district sounds really F-ed up.

Dade County/Miami to start...let's not forget they hired me cold off the streets with no teaching degree and turned 48 kids over to me in 1 classroom where they caused the teacher to have a nervous breakdown and quit.

Palm Beach where I am now is not much better, in fact worse in many ways. At least I was given full authority over my students in Dade. I am not allowed to take a lot of liberties where I am now, Nazi Germany I swear.

1200 jobs and tax revenue? Get that weak ### #### out of our state GE. Go back to Connecticut losers.

These precious snowflake kids are so desperate to be somebody they will latch on to anything so they can get their fix of approval.

Tito says GE is choosing Boston due to it's excellent High schools...I'm sure that was right on top of the list as to why GE made their decision...

And in unrelated news, GE has stated they will not be hiring any students who attended Boston Public Schools for the next decade.
