I just heard on FOX 2 in Detroit that the Tigers signed Cabrera to an 8-year contract extension for $153 million.
KISSIMMEE, Florida -- Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers reached a preliminary agreement Saturday on an eight-year, $153.3 million contract extension, a source close to Cabrera told ESPNdeportes.com on condition of anonymity.
The All-Star third baseman will undergo a physical on Monday to complete the deal, the source said.
The contract is the richest in the Tigers' history. Magglio Ordonez had the previous record when he signed with Detroit for $75 million and five years in 2004.
"Miguel just signed a big contract," said the source. "The contract will be completed when Miguel takes a physical on Monday."
Cabrera, 24, was eligible for arbitration in 2009 and could become a free agent after the season ended. He will earn $11.3 million in 2008, and then an average of $19 million per year through 2016.
There will really hurt them. Michigan's economy is in the ****ter and attendance is really going to drop in light of the recent ticket price increases. The Tigers have mortgaged their future.
So Detroit gave up all those prospects just to give out $153 million to one player! Man they got jobbed on that trade.
At least we have fields tied up for a while.
Good thing the food in Detroit sucks.
Bonderman is going to have to show up and help Verlander for the Tigers to do anything this season or the next.
This post wins. Every day that goes by, I drop to my knees and thank the Almighty that Juan Gone turned down that deal.IDave Dombrowski. Somewhere Randy Smith lays in his own feces.

The jealousy from the White Sux is almost blinding, and the Yankees appear to be scared. We could have average years from half of our rotation, and the Yanks would still have to play catch-up.Quotes from White Sux boards:

most sox fans and baseball fans would see this as a good signing. and that is what most of the post are in that thread. He signed for less then he could have gotten. this is a good deal for the tigers and bad for Canberra in terms of money. you should be happy you signed him and not worry what sox fans think and try to spread incorrect comments from sox fans.Quotes from White Sux boards:
that guy is an idiot and if you read the thread you will see him get made fun of for saying thatThere will really hurt them. I wouldn't quite go that far. No doubt it is a great signing...but, settle down a bit.We could have average years from half of our rotation, and the Yanks would still have to play catch-up.
Yeah that might be a little much. However I'm not sure how well the Yankees rotation will do this year and I think they are gonna have some big issues at the beginning and then at the end of the season. You have two rookies one who has thrown 151 innings as his career high (kennedy last year) and Hughes who has a career high of 116 innings. I think one or both of those guys will either break down or get shelved by August which means the Yankees are going to have to find innings from somewhere else. Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte are going to have to be pretty durable this year and they are going to be key to the Yankees making the playoffs or frankly, even getting close. Unlike last year where they had all these young guys who came up pretty fresh they won't have the same luxaries this year and like the Tigers, they have some older position players that could also be problematic. Of course i doubted the Yankees last year and that didn't work well for me. Going to Yankee Stadium for the first time on April 30th btw.I wouldn't quite go that far. No doubt it is a great signing...but, settle down a bit.We could have average years from half of our rotation, and the Yanks would still have to play catch-up.
I'm not sure how a team that just won the WS a few years ago would be jealous. Also, I don't think anybody is "scared" of anybody else in baseball. It's just a game, Rambo. The jealousy from the White Sux is almost blinding, and the Yankees appear to be scared.
How quickly does he put on 25 lbs at this point...
When he does get gets more fat he can always DH.How quickly does he put on 25 lbs at this point...Good deal for the Tigers - 19 million per in the prime of his career.
We should just be glad that Bill Ford only owns the Lions...For me it goes without saying. GB having that guy owning two of my teams.Don't forget about Mike Ilitch!!IDave Dombrowski. Somewhere Randy Smith lays in his own feces.

Are ya, I'm going to the WhiteSox game on the 5th. It was my turn to schedule an end of the year social gathering for our work party, so I organized a suite for that game. It's not really too bad, 65 bucks a ticket that time of year, compared to 85 prime time (summer games). Personally, I think they have their thinking backwards in terms of charging money for those sweets. It's in April in Detroit when you WANT a suite, because the weather is cold. During June, give me tickets down by the field anyday, even over a suite but in April in Detroit, kinda nice.goin to see the Tigerso n Thursdya April 3rd!!!!!!!![]()
