Time for a new QB for the Vikes (1 Viewer)

I like the guy, but Ponder ain't cutting it. Mix something up around there. Someone besides AP needs to step up.

I have not watched Ponder much this season but I got a chance to watch him play this weekend. Is he always that inaccurate? He looked awful.

Ponder will be fine..it takes 4-5 years to develop a young QB.
good point....just like Tavaris Jackson..... :)
Not everyone is Tavaris Jackson and on the other end of the spectrum, not everyone walks in and does what RG3, Luck and Wilson are doing either...

no, he's had some better showings than that, he is never a very accurate QB though.I think it's pretty clear he'll never be a franchise, top 10 type of QB though. Sure he may get better, but look at all these rookie or other young QB's coming in and being great options and don't need 4-5 years to get there. We need a franchise QB if we want to ever have a shot, so we aren't so one dimensional...Ponder isn't going to get us there the way he is playing this year.(granted, we need some WR help too)

they need to cut everyone outside of percy and start anew

Cam, Dalton, RG3, Luck and Wilson have really tilted the expectations of young QBs. Even a few years ago most fan bases would be content to wait 3-4 years to give a young QB a chance, now they get less than two seasons before the natives start getting restless. I am willing to bet that at least one QB drafted in the last two years is going to be cut by the team that drafted him and end up a quality QB for another team.

Ponder's stats right now compared to TJ at the same point are pretty similar.

I don't claim to be a super astute football viewer, but, of the little bit of the game that I watched last Sunday, the one thing that jumped out at me was how little touch Ponder seemed to have on his throws. That and the Vikings WR corp without Harvin is absolutely craptastic.

Hello, 2 years ago. Ponder was an awful pick and has shown why since he got the job. He's not a good QB and never was. Only way I see the Vikings moving on is if some people get fired in January. Maybe Ponder not completing a single pass to a WR until the final 3 mins of Sunday's game got someone's attention though. This offense is wasting three difference making talents with Ponder under center.

Fans being patient years ago isn't true. I remember Hasselbeck getting booed in Seattle when he took over for Dilfer in his first handful of games. People were never patient and nobody ever waited 3 or 4 years. I agree it is worse but it's Ponder's second year and the guy seems to play worse as the year goes on. Holding on to some Cassel type player for years just isn't a good idea. I think they should let him play the season out, then start thinking about moving on. Unfortunately it's really hard to get a QB outside of the top 10 (or 5) picks now. The Vikings won't have a high enough pick to grab someone so they could be stuck with him for a couple of years while AP carries the offense to the middle of the pack.

That was Hasselbeck's third season. We will have to disagree about fans being more patient with QBs in the past. I strongly believe that the recent success of rookie QBs has significantly shortened that timer a young QB gets.

Joe Webb time?
:goodposting: What really happened there? I thought this last offseason Webb was supposed to get a shot at competing for the starting job? This is big boy football and if Ponder isn't doing the job maybe they need to see what they MAY have in Webb? In today's NFL it seems that you either make an immediate impact or you don't. Sometimes unfortunately you may only ever get 1 shot if you get 1 at all. Whats the point of Ponder continuing to plod through a dismal season where he continues to regress with his decision making. Obviously he doesn't have the best weapons outside of Harvin, Rudolph, & ADP but seriously why not let Joe Webb run around a bit. I think the only reason Ponder is getting a longer leash is because they dont want to admit that they MAY have missed on their 1st rd pick. Very few QBs get an 'Alex Smith' like opportunity ---- chance after chance to show that he at least isnt terrible. He needs more help for sure but he clearly isnt what they had hoped for in the beginning of the yr. The hybrid QB in this league (aka Webb, RGIII, Newton, Locker) is becoming more popular. Yes eventually for long term success they are going to need to be able to stand in the pocket and read defenses and complete passes but WHILE that is developing they can do a lot with their legs to help their teams make plays. In a perfect world an offensive line would be able to keep their QBs upright to be able to read and dissect the defense but this world aint perfect so there is now a premium on the ability to extend the play beyond the X's & O's and make something happen. Maybe Joe Webb isn't any good... & Maybe he is... all I know is that last yr he provided a REAL spark and I can't imagine he is much more inaccurate than Locker or Newton.just my 2 cents

Joe Webb time?
:no:Should have played him in the 2nd half of last week when it was obvious Ponder was struggling. Now, with basically needing to win out and get help to even think of extending this season, they have to play it out to see what he has.. At this point, not much, but you have to play out the games to find out.

I blame the Detriot Lions defense for giving the Vikings brass the illusion that Ponder has an NFL future. Every week Detriot Lions are letting players like Wright and Brasil run uncontested in to the endzone. Even Ponder couldn't miss Wright when he was that wide open.
