Time To Bench Brees? (1 Viewer)

The Squeaky Wheel

Footballguy
Since New Orleans is out of the playoffs, perhaps it is time for them to bench Drew Brees for their remaining games. They should see what they have in Chase Daniels.

As I responded in the game thread:

Why would the Saints do that?? Brees just signed a five-year, $100 million contract, and he's not going anywhere. The Big Easy loves Drew...

Just because your fingers can tap the keys and make them dance to your psycho-rhythm doesn't mean you should. The keyboard, it's not a toy. Someone may get hurt. Do the responsible thing and just unplug that multi-letter-plastic-thingy, lock it in a drawer, and go and sleep it off. Most drunken late-night shame can be washed off in a morning-after cold shower. But this, the internet doesn't forget. It's like herpes from the beyond, the internet. So just don't go there. Your dignity will thank you in the morning.

... G-Men up next, late afternoon game in the swamp.

10 days to right the ship? Or another Brees clunker?

Absurd to call for his benching, of course .... but the potential for another crapfest is there. Teams who were riding Drew all year gotta be in worlds of hurt these days

This so called shark pool must be filled with a bunch of 8 year olds.

Sometimes, you run into this thing called variance.

Brees owners haven't really had to experience this pain over the years.

Welcome to it. It happens.

All good streaks come to an end at some point.

Brees will be fine (although he may experience some bumps and bruises @NYG next week).

Saints have the Giants number. Look at the last few times they played each other. They have not even been competitive games. They're not dead yet.

Saints had the Falcons number, too. That kind of stuff is meaningless.Saints' 2011 offense has been figured out. Coughlin and Fewell will have no problem having DBs in position to bait and pick off Brees 3+ times. Easy win for you guys in NJ, unless Eli melts down horrifically.

If you're really paying attention, this clearly is not the 2011 Saints offense.

It is truly painful to come on here and read ome of the ridiculous suggestions. Why the he@@ do they need to see what they have with Chase Daniel? I'm surprised the statement wasn't...."Chase Daniel, anything to see here?"

Everybody knows that Chase Daniels has franchise QB written all over him but seriously New Orleans should showcase Mark Ingram the rest of the way. Since it is a down year for RB draft prospects, maybe New Orleans can move him.

No doubt Brees is regressing before our eyes, but an emphatic NO to the silly question by the OP.

 If his previous 11 games were clunkers, I'll take those any week. I may bench him for Peyton Manning or a handful of other QBs but I love the overreaction here.

Let's pretend for a second that the OP isn't crazy. Maybe what he meant was that since New Orleans has no chance to make the playoffs they should let Chase show what he can do, garner some interest from QB needy teams and trade him like Philly did with Kolb and NE with Cassel.

Or he's bat#### insane and really thinks that Brees should be benched for that game.

Wow. Overraction redux with your choice of my quote. Have fantasy teams relying on Brees been hurt the past 2 games? Yes. Is the "potential" for another clunker there? Yes. I never called for his benching, nor did I say he would suck mightily vs the Jints. Just making the observation that it's not the Iggles on deck here, in the Dome. It's @ the champs house. Past history? Sure, it looks great, no question. But if that's what most will hangtheir hat on, fine. I posed the query "right the ship, or crapfest?". Never said he was DOOMED next week. But, yeah, keep the faith.

 #9 QB in my league last week. As long as my starter scores top 10 in a given week I wouldn't consider my team hurt by the player. This week, of course his owners were hurt by his worst performance since... 2007? Somehow I think he'll bounce back.

It's unlikely, but are we sure they have NO CHANCE?

If they win out, they actually have a rather good chance.

Then "If they have no chance." Say if they lose another one. I still don't think it'll ever happen but, again, just trying to find a way where the OP wouldn't be totally insane.

I meant schematically -- running the same stuff the same ol' way. Lots of film out there now.

Brees is regressing? I thought he just had a bad game.

I've taken Brees in the 1st round of a Big Money, extremely QB friendly, redraft league 3 years straight, he usually puts up between 45-60 points per. I've gotten to the Super Bowl the previous two years and he was a large part of that.

This week is a do or die for me, it was his lowest point total in the past 3 years, 22, and very well may have ended my season. I was absolutely disgusted with him yesterday, but if I do somehow make the playoffs, there is no other QB in the league I'd want on my roster other than Brees.
