I haven't watched a ton of the Pelicans this year, but last night down the stretch all they did was iso Davis or Tyreke starting from 18-20 feet out. It was terrible offense.

I don't understand why they even try to switch on the Smith-Howard PnR. Just let Josh Smith shoot off the dribble threes. Moronic.

Howard flagrant didn't seem super flagrant. Reading the rule, I think it was because he wound up that top arm and came down hard. The wind up is key, even though I disagree.

Dirk just gets the shot fouled out of him on every post up. I don't understand why Brewer just gets to hold and hack him with impugnity.

Mavs deserve to lose this one. Honestly surprised it's still remotely close. Terrible game.

 
Rondo is pretty much done as a starting PG for a legit NBA team? Right? That's the only reason I see him with Kings or Lakers next year.

I want to cry every time the idiots on the Los Angeles sports radio talk shows talk about the Lakers signing Rondo like it's a good thing (and a done deal). It makes even less sense than it would otherwise as the only good thing in the entire Laker season this year was Jordan Clarkson. Maybe he won't pan out as a starting PG, but at least give him a shot and spend the cap elswhere. It's not like they've got solid answers at the other spots. Beyond that, if part of the long term plan is making a serious run at Westbrook when/if he gets on the market, why the #### would you want to have Rondo around? Signing Rondo would be the red ball on the end of the clown cap for Jimmy. :rant:

 
I think he's done as a starter completely after this year. A rebuilding team doesnt want a declining 29 year old headcase. And I'm sure this Dallas stint is gonna scare away any contending teams.

Rondo lost tens of millions of dollars with this Dallas stint. I really question more how motivated he'll be to play on a not so lucrative deal. Just my opinion is he's going to be looking at a near vet minimum deal. Could be someone like a Nate Robinson that is switching team to team rest of career.

Rondo was useful because he was a good distributor and defender. Now he is pretty much neither and never bothered to develop a decent shot (like Jason Kidd did). He will get big money from the Lakers and will be terrible.

 
The Rockets game was ugly at times but that 4th Qtr was one of the most energy filled quarters I've seen live. Toyota Center was going ham as the players fed off each other and the crowd with each mounting alley-oop. Quality son.

Casey is terrible. The lack of adjustments he made in Game 1 were inexcusable, especially in OT when he stuck with Amir, 2Pat, and the small ball lineup despite being dominated on the glass. I didn't even watch game 2 because I had already lost hope in the team.

I think he will be gone if they get swept. He's always been a poor offensive coach, and in the second half of the season the defense was pretty horrid as well. Also, neither Valanciunas nor Ross have developed into into key contributing pieces towards a long playoff run despite their obvious talents, and I put that largely on the coaching staff (especially JV, who you know works hard). I can't see how Casey stays.

This team would have lost to the Bucks as well. They made us look bad in the last few games we played them.

Just fine. Actually, just about perfect. If they kept the 3 seed and edged out the Bucks (which they wouldn't with how they are playing) then they'd get swept in the 2nd round but Casey would keep his job. This way Casey is being fully exposed and hopefully a competent coach will be brought in.

So yeah, pretty much no downside to having the 4 seed.

Yup, in the long run this is going to be Pyrrhic victory for the Wizards if it convinces them to keep their current brain trust in place. Though I don't think this series is 100% over either - the Wizards don't get much of a home court advantage in the playoffs.

You missed some great things last night.

-Putting Vasquez on Wall was probably the highlight of night. Possibly the slowest PG in the league covering the fastest. Great work Casey.

-Finally bring James Johnson in yet he wasn't even checking Pierce! Johnson promptly got two easy layups, just missed a 3rd and got to the line twice, though sadly, he missed them all...

-Trotting Hans Bro out there again who rewards him with a 0-0-0 line in 12 minutes. He now has zero rebounds in 25 minutes this series.

-Ross and Patterson were both hitting their shots yet zero plays get run for them

Agreed that Casey has no clue on how to use JV. Casey's refusal to call plays for him and removing late in games, has been a mistake.

I remember when they made the trade and all of us, along with most media types, thought it made no sense at all but we gave them the benefit of the doubt because Carlisle. Weird that all the outsiders nailed it and a well-run organization like Dallas ####ed it up so badly.

I remember when they made the trade and all of us, along with most media types, thought it made no sense at all but we gave them the benefit of the doubt because Carlisle. Weird that all the outsiders nailed it and a well-run organization like Dallas ####ed it up so badly.

I assume that they figured that they wouldn't be able to make a real run anyway, so might as well take the gamble that it would pay off, however remote that possibility was. Were there other ways that they could have improved enough to become a serious contender.

 
Why do sideline reporters (who are worthless regardless) bother asking Popovich real questions any more?

Instead, they should ask questions like this:

"Coach, I know the NBA has succumbed to the prevailing style of the day, but would it kill you to wear a tie during playoff games?"

"In the TNT office pool, the over-under on how many words you'll utter in your league-mandated two questions is four. I have the under. Do you think I'll win?"
