So how does Memphis get to the next level or get any better? This is a really good team that pretty much will never get out of the west.
More shooters.
Yep. 20 years ago, the Grizzlies would have been a powerhouse. You can only get so far today if you can't make a decent amount of 3s.
I think you have to go further back than that. 20 years ago the Rockets swept the Magic in the finals and both teams had a lot more 3 pointers than the Grizzlies did in this 5 game series. The Rockets had Horry, Kenny the Jet and Cassel all hit more than the Grizzlies top 2 (Calathes and Lee with 6 each). The Magic had Penny, N.Anderson, B.Shaw and D.Scott hitting more than that.

Memph 2015: 23

Orl 1995: 41

Hou 1995: 37

Reg Season -

Memphis 2015 - 423

Houston 1995 - 646

Magic 1995 - 523

Tony Allen is done as a rotation player unless he goes to a team with a stretch 4 and 5. Every team is going to play him the way the Warriors did.

They need a JJ Redick or Trevor Ariza type wing player to be in their mix, or even a stretch 4 to come off their bench in a 3 big rotation with Randolph and Gasol.

Kerr and staff deserve credit for forcing Allen out of the game by putting Bogut on him early and letting him be Tony Allen.
You gotta love it, Allen after animatedly proclaiming himself an all defense player earlier in the series is a self check offensive player.
Anyone who watches basketball already knew that. He isn't a jump shooter.
:goodposting:

Guy has barely averaged 8PPG over his career.
Again you 2 geniuses, why is this guy on an NBA roster?

That was a radical adjustment. And it comes with the downside of having your forwards have to guard the other team's bigs, which some coaches might blanche at.

Or Allen could simply work on hitting uncontested mid-range shots. He's gum in the works of any offense, but he's too good defensively to just be cast aside. If the Grizzlies can re-sign Gasol, let Green go off quietly into the good night, and replace him with a dangerous wing player who can hit 3's, they're going to be fine.

Don't forget who the GM of the Grizzlies is. He's the one that basically introuduced/popularized the public to basketball analytics.

I know it is a little late, but am I then only one that thinks it is hilarious that after Pierce said " I called game" on one of them luckiest shots to win a game, that he makes a great shot to tie the game at the buzzer and it is a fraction of a second late.

Are we really giving Kerr credit for knowing Allen can't shoot? He's been a horrible shooter for years. In fact, if he wasn't having Allen's man play off him earlier in the series then he's an idiot.

Note - I don't really believe any of that - I love Kerr and think he's a great coach. But it's absurd to give him credit for that.

Did you watch the game?

The Warriors put Bogut "on" Allen, who basically let him roam the perimeter at will while he clogged the lane. And it worked, although it's too bad Allen got hurt, it would've been interesting to see how Memphis countered that.

.

Yes Seriously,, You have got to give Conley a valuable shooting guard otherwise teams double down on ZBO and Gasol.

Allen is nothing more than a rotational player who needs to be brought on in certain bursts, The Warriors exposed that.

Nothing like playing 5 on 4 for a divisional championship..

I did watch - you seriously think that's some genius move? Kerr's great but let's fellate him for something else.

Thabo has been on three different NBA teams, and he can't shoot, either.

Damn no games tonight.
Typically awful NBA playoff scheduling. Nothing else on to detract ratings from them either.
They have one game left for this round. I'm sure that they know that the ratings are likely to be better on Sunday at 3:30 than on a Saturday.
I would think a Saturday 8pm tip would do better than 3:30 Sunday now that their weather is getting nicer.
I think they've done the research and figured out that Saturday games have lower ratings.

TA isn't in the game to score points. He's not a 2 guard. It's not playing 5 on 4. He's in there for that gritty style of defense he plays. He does what he does well. He also was bothered by a hamstring injury for the past month.

You mean other than being a career 35% 3pt shooter, he can't shoot, right?

There is definitely a role for a guy who can lock down the other team's best wing scorer.

But as others have said, there needs to be more shooting on the floor both when he's in the game AND when he's on the bench.

He can make the occasional corner three, but so can dozens of NBA players.

That doesn't make him a good shooter.

The reason he's in the league is his defense. I like him. As a Bulls fan, I wasn't happy when they traded him.

That's all you have? A junior high emoticon.

Thabo has never averaged even 9 points per game in a season. Averages 0.6 made threes per game in his career. Take out a couple seasons playing with Durant and Westbrook, and it looks even worse.

But sure, if you think he's a good shooter, knock yourself out with a series of silly emoticons.

I would think playoffs would be different, when they aren't competing with College football or College basketball.
