Can someone explain to me why the teams that played Wednesday play again Friday, while the teams that played Tuesday don't play until Saturday?

I know the answer is probably "TV," but am I alone in thinking this makes no sense?

I think it's neat how Howard and Jordan can only play the last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter because they can't shoot free throws. Great basketball all the way around there.
If those two guys value their playing time, they should probably make a few more free throws. Just make 60% and it will stop. They do make a combined $33 million per year.

It certainly is TV.

Came in to ##### about this actually since I was clicking around for the game a hour ago. This is right along the lines of teams have 8 days off when their opponents series didn't even go 7 games. NBA scheduling is embarrassing. NHL gets it right...maybe because they don't have the TV revenue (I have no idea), but they were even showing 4 games a night in their first round at times using multiple networks (ala ncaa hoops).

Mirotic is fine. Noah's play is certainly affected by injury again.
Noah never was a great finisher, but now he can't even make the most routine point-blank layups. He's clearly playing with some sort of injury.

Mirotic seems to be the victim of tighter playoff rotations.
I personally hate that Tibs is limiting Niko's minutes. UNLESS he is still hurt. The guy was giving you plus 17 down the stretch when Rose was out. He can ball.

With JR smith back, the bull need to counter with heavy minutes with Niko. Ride or die. Dance with the girl that brought ya.

I'm happy Mirotic isn't playing. Sure, maybe he's dinged some still, but why garbage time him like in game 2 then? That makes even less sense....then again, I've seen all the Thibs posts here this year. Noah is certainly playing injured...not sure if he's said so himself...but the Bulls beater said he was today on the radio.

So being honest as a Bulls fan, I'm conflicted on Tibs. He clearly made the most of sub par talent on offence and at the PG slot. He instituted a great defensive scheme for a young team. As the team has matured, he has been slow to respond. He is currently NOT maximizing his talent.

I don't quite understand where the issue lays, but if Tom wants to remain a top level coach, he needs an answer to the current situation.

I think it's travel. More to do with player rest and logistics. These gaps are also when they're going from one city to the other.

Yep. Between cities at least 2 days rest. Same city, 1 day rest. That's why the finals was 2-3-2 for a while because of the East/West travel times.

That's what I thought too, but Hawks-Wizards have only one day off the rest of the way despite travel before every game after Game 4.

I assume the idea was to get four games over the weekend, including the marquee matchups on Sunday. They could have done all that by playing every other day through the entire series, but that wouldn't have really been fair to the Hawks, who also had to play on just 36 hours rest before Game 1. They also need to avoid conflicts with the Capitals.

They could have just played Grizz-Warriors last night I guess, but maybe they didn't want one series getting too far ahead? Who knows.

Yeah, Cle-Chi is only one day between cities. Obviously those two are pretty close. Maybe arena availability has something to do with it.

The important thing is that D.Rose isn't getting two days off until after game six.

That doesn't make sense.

All series going to Game 3 now. Half the teams get one day's rest, half get three days' rest.

Why not give all teams two days rest?

OK, maybe there is a small part of it that's travel for the extreme series (GS to Mem, although 1 day seems plenty to me), but that's more of an excuse. The main reason is TV. I fly to Cali for work, sometimes put in a couple hours the arriving day, and surely don't need a rest period the entire day following travel. Chi/Milw didn't need 2 days rest, for example. They got it twice though. Bos/Cle didn't get the 2-day rest until before game 4 (hmm, let's get that game on Sunday), not when they traveled between cities.

In the first round, they schedule to have every series have a game on the weekend (4 and 4), and to maximize their TV exposure on ONE network during the weeknights (so 2 games per night). If there was ever a weeknight with 3 games, I missed it. Second round, it's basically the same thing, but less subtle because there are only 4 series.

I have a feeling arena availability isn't much of an issue.

Celtics did it to Tristan Thompson and he's around 64%

I thought it was really weird/dumb when they were doing it to him.

Good game so far. The Cleveland shooters are making shots at a ridiculous % right now.

Nice to see Niko out there for Chicago. They need his offense.

And yes, these Refs suck.

I hope kids don't watch games like this and think that's how to set proper screens. Really a shame that part of the game is not officiated properly...which would then make the players play basketball.

Game 2 tonight will feel so refreshing after this. I can't possibly take an overtime of Breen and Co. telling me how great a game this is.

I like how it's a great game because the refs are letting them play...then Butler's afro gets touched as he kicked his legs out looking for contact and it's a crime. Nice work, #1 NBA announce team.
