I think that while Towns is more talented than Okafor, Okafor could still wind up being the first overall pick because of character. If the draft process shows Okafor to be a potentially a great leader and dedicated worker compared Towns, then its conceivable that Minnesota opts for the high character, very talented guy over the moderate character, super talented one.

I believe Wiggins is already a high character, very talented player and if you pair two of those types together at a very young age, you have a blueprint for long term success. I'm thinking Duncan/Parker over Garnett/Marbury, as a crude comparison.

Of course, if it seems clear that there is no difference between the character of the two big men, than Towns is the easy choice here imo.

Are there character concerns with Towns?

After a long hiatus from basketball, this is the first NBA game Im watching all season. Are all games this exciting? Teams are pushing the ball up the court, good tempo, fans are into it, etc.

Knicks better hope like hell they can attract a premier FA to pair with Melo and either Mudiay or Russel. Otherwise its going to be ugly when they have another season like this past year and ship off lotto pick to Raps or Nuggets.

No I don't think so...my point was more about the positive characteristics that some feel Okafor has rather than any negatives right now on Towns, which could lead some teams to prefer Okafor. As far as I know, Towns seems like a great kid.

The Lakers really have nothing to offer elite free agents. Extra money that a team can offer his own guy to stay, what's the attraction? Terrible ownership/coach? Psychotic future HOF'er who's screaming at everyone even though he's garbage now? Nil chance of getting anywhere in the playoffs?

Golden State games are mostly up-tempo and exciting and their fans are usually into it.

There is a trend in the NBA of teams playing smaller and faster and shooting more 3s. Nobody's as fun to watch as the Warriors though.

The NBA is great, you should watch more often.

But this is the best of the best, without a doubt.

I don't watch any college basketball except for the Final Four. However, reading the scouting reports and quick glance at the youtube clips it seems that Towns has the more valuable NBA skill set.

You don't need an OFFENSIVELY dominant big man to win in the NBA like the final 4 NBA teams have shown, but you do need your big man to be able to defend the paint, which Towns reportedly does worlds better than Okafor. Add in the fact that Towns is a significantly better FT shooter and it makes it an easy choice because he'll never be forced off the floor and generally good FT% means Towns should eventually become a good jump shooter. Again, this is assuming character and work ethic are all equal.

Go Warriors!

:lmao: okay. Don't the lakers have $20+ mil in cap space this year? Kobe's done after next year. 3 nice building blocks in Randel, Clarkson, and whoever we take at #2.

You know who the Clippers' 3 nice "building blocks" are? Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and (bit of a dropoff) JJ Redick. So if Jordan gets a max offer to stay from LAC, he'd leave a contender AND $30 million on the table to go play for a dip#### coach and with a bunch of young players?

Aldridge? Assuming he does bail on Portland, how does LA compete with San Antonio? Love can either re-sign with Cleveland or just take another year with them, even if he spurns both of those options, he's risking going back to a perpetual re-building/disaster like he was with Minny.

Also keep in mind that the draft is before free agency, so if they do the smart thing and take Towns or Okafor, signing a big could relegate Randle to a reserve role.

Other than another draft pick, what's changed from last summer?

Getting the #2 pick with two coveted bigs kind of a big deal. What's changed since last summer.

I hate NBA refs - Green is mugging Howard every time down.

Heading to bed - GS wins by 10.
Blaming the refs is such a cop out. Sleep tight!
Don't disagree but for context I HATE the Rockets - I wish they would lose every game they play (except this series as it helps the Hawks). I hate Josh Smith more than any player in NBA history - he helped ruined the franchise I support. I think Howard has wasted his potential. Anyway, I'm just calling it as I was seeing it at the time. GS is better both as a team and mentally so they don't even need the refs but I thought they got several favorable calls to get back in the game in the second quarter. But that's the NBA and was my point - I think the refs get caught up in the crowd noise and momentum and make bad calls. I'm surprised Houston apparently stuck around.

I was actually pretty impressed with Towns offensive skills when I saw him in the tournament - he's not at Okafor's level but not bad at all and as Tim mentioned he can hit FTs.

Not much of a Knicks fan ever since the Scott Layden debacle years, but if you have to fall in a lottery, this seems like a good year to do it. Russell/Mudiay/Winslow could all end up being the best player in the draft. Likely lower floors than the bigs but possibly more upside. I'm not much of an Okafor fan.
Would have absolutely loved to see Phil's face when they fell to 4. Particulary after his 'cant win with shooters' tweet -- and how he likely to miss on the 2 bigs. And (likely) the next best guy and most importantly for that team -- facilitator -- that's ready to contribute right away in Russell (who would be in Phil's wet dream in that offense given he's a big guard, can shoot, and can play either PG/SG)

Phil isn't on the 5 year plan to make the Knicks relevant again. Knicks missed on the 3 guys that'll contribute right away. Winslow will be a great defender right away but doesn't fill a great need for them now with Melo at the 3 & need for a facilitator.. Mudiay isn't nearly the shooter as Russell is now & something he'll need time to improve on. Russell is going to be good day 1. And an All Star in the not too distant future barring injury.

Even if you want to throw the Knicks a bone and they get Marc Gasol or Love. They're not doing anything anytime soon with Gasol or Love/Melo/Mudiay. I guess they can pray the Lakers do something unexpected at 2.
