Someone mentioned earlier that lebron has one more ring then Jordan did at this age. He probably has at least 3 more excellent years left.
I think he could also seamlessly transition to being a #2 guy later in his career.
He's got access to and uses the best medical technology in the world. He'll play at an elite level for 10 more years.
Everyone in the league has access to that. How many of them are playing at an elite level at age 40. Or even at age 38? Kobe couldn't get close. Garnett couldn't get close. Dirk is hovering over the cliff as we speak. Nobody gets to 40. In fact the stars who have aged best are the ones who: (1) are willing to take a reduced role as they age, and (2) played a few years in college to spare their bodies some of those early miles. Your Tim Duncans, your Steve Nashs, your Paul Pierces, your Ray Allens. I think LeBron could do that, but he's gonna have to cut his workload quite a bit due to all the extra miles on it from starting his NBA career at age 19 and making six runs to the Finals by age 30.

Here's a good way to illustrate how old 40 is for an NBA star: Allen Iverson is 40.
He's the next Robert Parrish.

Duncan's longevity is attributable to two main things (assuming he spends the requisite time keeping himself in shape that most successful pro athletes do): A coach that knows how to manage his playing time, and that he's been the epitome of old man game in a 7+ foot frame since day 1. Apart from the championships, he and Shaq have had polar opposite careers.

I think LeBron can transition to being a cagy vet ball distributer, perimeter guy, but let's not kid ourselves that a lot of his game isn't predicated on his freakish athleticism. I think it will be somewhat of a challenge for him to make that transition when his quicks and hops start deteriorating - assuming his body doesn't just collapse from the pounding it's taken playing pro ball since his late teens.

I would like to see old-man-Lebron convert to a sort of Larry Johnson/Sam Perkins-esque type of 3 point shot where he doesn't really jump. I bet he'll make more that way.

LeBron's game is about lowering his shoulder and running through or pushing off the defenders. If he doesn't develop a reliable perimeter game, he's toast in 5 years.

Just saw a Stephen A quote on ESPN.com:

"You all need to thank your heavenly stars in certain respects that the Cleveland Cavaliers lost these NBA Finals, cause had they won, then LeBron would have fulfilled his promise to this city, and then he would have been free to do whatever he wanted to do without having any kind of guilty conscience about it whatsoever.” (via First Take)

I'm not even sure what this means. If LeBron won a title, would he just start looting the city or something? I'm confused.

He would have rode on an elephant through the city with a rocket launcher just blowing ish up.

After last night, making it until 1:19 PM eastern time before the first ridiculously silly LeBron James Hot Take in this thread is really pretty remarkable when you think about it. Good job, guys

I think the idea is that if the Cavs won it all, James would feel like he'd accomplished his mission/paid his debt to Cleveland and leave again. I don't see it.

i'm happiest for Kerr. he seems like a really good guy. he seems honest enough to admit he stepped into a great situation and smart enough to just make the necessary tweaks to the team. he can grow as a coach, tactician and whatever else. i'm interested to see him develop as a coach for the future.
Think I mentioned this before, but midseason he was on local radio and carefully let it be known that he used this clip during a team meeting.

It's interesting that he was the GM of the Suns team that traded Marion for Shaq (although he was not positive it was a good move), and it didn't work. Playing Iggy over Bogut is pretty much GS' in-roster equivalent of choosing Marion over O'Neal, if that makes sense.

Other than the ball-handling, the passing, the rebounding, the defending...
Who does he defend? Iggy was eating his lunch. Anyone can dribble up the court. Eventually he won't get the no-calls, so the drive and drive-dish will be ineffective. Yep, he should still be able to rebound.

Duncan is also an outlier due to his aerobic capacity. Iirc He was an elite swimmer and didn't really excel at basketball until late.

You must be a fan. I don't post in here for a year and the minute I do, voila, the LBJ ball-washers come out in droves.

I've already given him props for what he did this year. But, let's make no mistake, he gets away with a LOT on the offensive end with his "physicality".

And the 35%+ 3 point shooting for the last 4 years. Does that count as the perimeter?
How'd he do in the Finals? Was his 3 point shot reliable?

Let's go no SAS quotes for now.

It's true, I've seen him do it. Frosty held the bucket.

Oh. Okay. Lets go with your 6 game sample over my 284 game sample. That makes sense.

Ridiculous that Steve Kerr couldn't get more looks for James Michael McAdoo, the Warriors' most reliable postseason scorer at 66.7% from the field.

So who wants to talk draft?
Mudiay in Philadelphia for dinner last night!
Glad Philly fans can still be excited about something. Embiid's foot is scary. Almost to the point where drafting a big man isn't crazy.
The plan to me has always been take Russell or Okafor at 3.
I think you should prepare yourself for the Porzingis era.
While Hinkie does like the Euros with measurables, he has been consistent with value. Taking him at 3 will not happen.

According to some that is value. I think draft express has him going 3rd.

"I'll have chances from here. It's not like I'm trying to prove to people that I'm able to play this game," Lee told ESPN Radio after Game 1. "Everybody knows that I'm capable. But it's been kind of cool to put the ego aside and say, 'Hey, this is about something bigger than me.' There was always the talk when I was in New York that I was a guy that could put up numbers but couldn't help the team win ... [that] it was all about me and not the team.

"A lot of guys that are on bad teams that put up big numbers kind of have that rap and that's not what I want to be known as. I want to be known as a great teammate and a great competitor. So I think I've proven that this year. That my attitude hasn't changed the entire season. I've been ready."

Korver shot 28% from 3 in the Wizards series. Guy needs to develop a reliable perimeter game.
And his team was bounced.
Yep. Hopefully he can turn into a reliable 3 point shooter in the future.
Because we all know the regular season and playoffs are exactly the same.
Yep. Guy needs to practice playoff 3 pointers so he can become a reliable 3 point shooter in the playoffs.

Then maybe he can teach LeBron how to do it as well.

Great article on how the Warriors managed their players throughout the season to keep them healthy.

http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2015/story/_/id/13098001/golden-state-warriors-show-rest-best

I found this part very interesting. Wonder how many other teams travel the day after a game instead of the same day.

Golden State holds a competitive advantage. Its secret? The Warriors are based in the Bay Area, the same place where Silicon Valley calls home.

Technology and data analysis are pillars of the Warriors' front office and they make it a point to immerse the numbers and hoops together. For example: the team's stats guy, Sammy Gelfand, rebounds for the players every day rather than getting holed up in a remote office like other teams' analytical gurus.

They're as nerdy as it gets. As clients of wearable technology provider Catapult Sports, the Warriors monitor their players' workloads in practice with GPS monitors and analyze the data with acute attention to maximizing performance while minimizing injury risk.

The latest project: With the training staff, Gelfand and the team's data programmers, the Warriors are engineering a "readiness" rating for each player built on a 0-to-100 scale where 100 is prime shape and 0 is completely burnt out.

The idea is to give Kerr a handy all-in-one metric that aggregates various health indicators, including a daily five-question survey given to the players to help assess their soreness. Simple questions like, "How do you feel?" and "What's your mood?" and "How'd you sleep?" Each question has multiple phrases that the players choose from. Each answer corresponds to a number on a five-point scale. The lower the number, the lower the stress levels.

"It's research," Lyles says of the survey. "The wording in the answers are specific so it gives guys a good guide. Each guy is very individual. I may ask you the same questions. We want a low score. The best score you can have is a five. So let's say your average is an 11, that's your norm after months of doing it. It's 5 to 25. One point for each question.

Leading sports scientists are marveling at LeBron James in the NBA Finals and wondering how much longer he can go.
"You come in, now you have two days that are 18 and 19. Alright, now that's a trigger. He's normally an 11, let's check in. If it's sleep, we'll look at the questions that are bad. We'll look at the travel."

The Warriors noticed that player stress was linked to lack of sleep. So they rescheduled their flights to the day after, not the night of games, so they could sleep in and get a full night's rest.
