Hate to say it but I'm kind of with Todem here. Winslow is going to to help a ton and can guard several positions.

The problem for the Heat, and for Todem's argument, is that it's going to take him a while to figure out the NBA. I don't remember anyone coming in and being an elite defensive contributor right off the bat. NBA defense is too complicated and the players are too skilled offensively with too many tricks up their sleeves. Even a guy like Gobert, who may be more gifted defensively than anyone on earth, didn't really emerge as a force until his second season in the league, when he was 23. Winslow is 19 and will be in his first season.

Agreed. He is only 19. He can help though off the bench next season and a couple of years from now he has that all around player potential.

It's funny how people just continue to knock Wade. Yes in the regular season he misses time. But his season in 2014/15 was damn good when he was on the court which was 2/3 of the season. I expect him to give us 65-70 games if things break right, but more importantly he is a big time post season player. The guy delivers in the post season. The Heat will be in the post season again this upcoming season. If not then it will be a big shock to most of the respected experts around the NBA.

Wade is one of the all time greats at SG and it is undeniable. His body of work speaks for itself. We love him here. An all timer and he has surpassed our other legend Dan Marino as the best pro athlete to play in South Florida.

I feel like the top 4 is pretty predictable in the East -- with Milwaukee being the party crasher in 4th, on the heels of a season that saw the young core go ~.500ish, only to add both Parker and Monroe. Don't see much chance any of the field pushes any of those teams out without catastrophic injuries.

WAS and TOR seem like the safest bets from the field to secure a couple of the 5-8 spots, but I think either is looking at an uphill battle for any result better than first-round exit.

Atlanta won't be as good and I can see more than a little trouble in Chicago.

Chicago's already shown that even with massive injury problems, they're still solid enough to waltz to a top 4 seed. I don't see that changing.

Don't see anything significant changing in ATL, unless Korver really struggles to come back. Carroll was extremely expendable, being little more than an opportunistic athlete. Product of the system is the only way you get a breakout at his age -- and that'll be easily replaceable. And all the true skill guys are locked in and in their primes, and are all moving together into another year in the Bud/Pop system. They're a top 4 lock.

Chicago could really go either direction IMO with the coaching change. Thibs was their identity.

Carroll was an integral part of that team, probably their best defender and has been on a steady incline into his "breakout" last year. Still think ATL is going to be really good, but that was a loss.

And some of them like MKG and Wiggins have actually shown the ability to defend pretty well in their early years. But the impact is more of the "that guy could have a nice career based on defense alone" type then the "I think Lebron, Durant, and Harden are in a for a long night" type. Of course there is room for the Trevor Ariza's and MKG's and Justice Winslow's of the league and they can affect the game for sure. But let's not act like Scottie Pippen just ended up in South Beach because some Shooting Guard at UVA had a bad night against Duke back in January.

Winslow's best attribute as a NBA prospect is clearly his defense, which has been his calling card ever since he first started making a name for himself with USA Basketball as a 16-year old beating up on older players at the FIBA U17 World Championship in Kaunas.

Some of those guys on the Under 17 team were months older than him - months I tell you.

I am just excited about him. And hopefully he pans out. My hope is he becomes a solid piece to a good team that will have Whiteside and Dragic as the other 2 pieces for the foreseeable future. And Bosh still has plenty of game left over the next 2-3 years. That is exciting for us Heat fans.

I'll retire it when they have some semblance of decent performance against the West.

There have been very few teams in that conference with a winning record against the West in each of the past few years. Like, 3 or 4 teams a year. It was better last year, as I believe 5 teams (CLE, ATL, MIL, CHI, and and TOR) avoided losing records against the West. Of course, that still leaves 10/15.

Only Denver, LA, Sacramento, and Minnesota had losing records against the East last year. Which means 11/15 were over .500 against the East.

Until those stats change, it's pretty fair to say the East sucks in comparison.

ETA: The West/East is like a power 5 conference vs. a decent but unspectacular conference. Sure, teams from the solid conference beat teams from the Power 5 one, but there's a reason one conference is widely acknowledged as stronger.

A huge glut of 50-55 win teams who are all threats to make a deep playoff run sucks, but knowing you can't reach the Finals unless you can take down LeBron also kind of sucks.

Also, the Wiz were also >.500 vs the West last year, not Milwaukee. And the Pelicans were actually worse against the East than the West, which doesn't mean much but is kind of weird.

I'll admit, I'm pretty fickle when it comes to my NBA loyalties. Grew up in SoCal during Showtime so of course loved watching Magic, Worthy, Kareem... listening to Chick Hearn.

But as the kid of a couple of Chicagoan parents, I of course couldn't help but love Mike... helps that the Lakers were terrible and then brought in KobMe (thanks, brohan), who I totally despised (still do). Heck, back in the late 80's, I went to a ton of Clipper games (cheaper, more available tickets)

That said, not too sure what to think of this Bulls team. Not really a Noah or Rose fan. I do like the Hoiberg call, but not terribly impressed with what the future looks like. Butler is solid but not a team leader.

I won't bandwagon up with my north neighbors and root for the "Dubs". Maybe I hitch my wagon back up to the Lakers now that they have a solid young core? I do like this Russell kid. He'll be a star.

Probably a good thing for both teams. Wallace can be stretched (Lee couldn't), so GS will only take a hit of about 3.5mm this year. But good to not give up any draft picks. Bos gets another decent player who doesn't have a long contract.

What nights of the week are you here? I have the roughly the same age kids (2.5 year old boy, 4.5 year old daughter) and there are a few spots near the Hyatt that have some real cool kid-friendly deals.

Mmm, Thrifty ice cream. And yes that's me in the Yelp review (assuming it sorts the same for you). It's a large block north of PCH on Beach Blvd.

I'll try and rack my brain for more suggestions. I'm from the OC but have only been back here for 9ish months after 8 years away.

There's a place called Zubie's that could also work. They have huge fishtanks the kids can look at, some arcade games, wide array of food choices (and an oyster bar and beer/wine if you and the wife are so inclined).
