PK tweeted how Russ Grimm went to check out RG/RT Donavan Clark of Mich St. 53rd ranked G in draft but yet 3rd team Big Ten. Googling, Grimm was not alone at all so now I want to know why no one ranks this kid as if they like him.
I want to know how they will do with UDFAs after the Webster era. This worked real well in his time.
If ya don't know- pro days are video-taped and emailed (sometimes links not video but...) to every team. No team has to go visit anyone to scout them.
The Titans visit every local team (they don't count as visits) and get a set number of invites for interviews at the team facility.
Many years ago, Fisher was reportedly upset about moves but never truly came out and said so to the media. Next spring it was said he insisted current players be part of interview process. Many NFL teams do this now, no idea who started it but it might be Fish. Whisenhunt didn't want that his first year. In year two, last year, Casey was part of the Leonard Williams interview and they got along great. IIRC They went out to eat after and spent an afternoon. As ya know, they didn't draft him but Casey loved the guy and looks like on twitter that they became friends.
I have no prob with the Mariota pick, of course, so...they didn't draft Williams.
The Pats have had players in interviews so I do figure they go back to this.
I think it's very important. If I'm gonna have a cohesive line that communicates well, I'd bring Lewan to chit-chat with Tunsil and oh maybe Walker too. A new ILB well let's see how he and Avery get along. Mariota ought to be there to meet WRs and if he wants to meet the linemen to ask some "die trying" to block for me type Qs...have at it.
Supposedly almost everyone gets along. Every prospect is a friendly good boy so it's not that effective. I disagree. If you can weed out even 1-5% based on personality, then it's worth it.

Titans re-signed Byron Bell as per PK, one year deal.
Amidst tape review and discussions and all....OK. He played G and T last year. I thought soso at G, not very good at T.
They're not getting any top OL talent but they are getting better and deeper. It's just rising up to be average at this point, not special.

I think the Titans have as good a shot to trade the #1 as in any year in a long time.
Several teams in the top 10 can use a QB, Teams at #2, #7, #8, #11 can all make a case. Maybe it's as simple as swapping with CLE for a 2nd. Maybe a bigger deal for SF. What Kelly offered for Mariota last year was nuts, and you know he needs a QB.

Eagles are out of the mix. Local radio has the Cowboys/Jones not feeling desperate enough to make a trade seem likely. They may take a QB but it doesn't seem like a must and trade up type feel. Texans signed Brock.
The Rams and Broncos seem desperate for QB help.

I never thought Dallas was in the mix. Rams and Texans were too far away. Chicago seems perfect. Cutler for another year, let Goff/Wentz learn, and go from there. 49ers and Browns both must have a favorite.
I don't think for a second teams are gonna be happy with one or the other. I bet teams that want a QB want their guy.
I think the Rams should be in on a move up. That team has a lot of talent, and gonna waste it without a QB.
Robinson's backups seem to have clauses where if they're active they get bonus $ otherwise it's typical backup contracts. I like this concept. It could help to land some. Of course then they need a backup to shine but...it's a start.

Yeah it's reminding me how exceptional last year was. Teams truly did like both Winston and Mariota. This year does have a 'favorite' vibe to it.
I can't gauge Cutler. I don't care for him and others love the guy. I think he locks onto Jeffrey like Aaron Brooks did Joe Horn and has no vision anymore. Others in the game threads and twitter totally disagree.
I had said earlier, I think it's Fish's job on the line if he doesn't do well. So they should be well pressed to add a QB. He's even getting some flack from Rams writers right now for attracting Cook and paying him so much. The whole LA move, he needs to make a splash and get some positive news.
The Broncos seem ideal since they have a loaded roster but wouldn't Elway be crazy to think he can win a supe with a rookie QB? or Sanchez? I think they may be on a rookie high looking at tapes but when that wears off if the Jets haven't signed Fitz they are gonna throw some money at him. Shaun King took a great Tampa D to the NFCC as a rook didn't he? Marino? I can't think of a rook with that type success and Marino was much better prospect than this year's guys. Push comes to shove, I can't see Elway going with a rook.

Cutler did well last year. That doesn't make him any less of a coach-killer, IMO.
I think there is no way in hell the Bears GM/coach want to hitch their wagon to him. And as the QB goes, so go the front office. If Mariota flames out, the current TEN staff won't be around to replace him, that's the way it goes in the NFL. How the heck can the Bears trust Cutler to continue to be a good guy, and make good decisions?

The Titans are willing to trade down in the NFL draft. But only if someone wows them with an offer.
That’s the word from Titans G.M. Jon Robinson, who said at a Titans fan festival today that it would take a “king’s ransom” to give up the first overall pick.

The Titans have Jason McCourty and Perrish Cox as their top two cornerbacks, with Blidi Wreh-Wilson third in line outside. Cox might be best in the slot, where new addition Brice McCain plays best.

No issues with getting the Steelers' backups as long as they play to their expected position/tier on the Titans (and that they are paid accordingly ).
If there is upside, besides getting players more familiar with LeBeau and his system in the team rooms/on the practice field, more power to the Titans. But LeBeau had better be grooming a replacement for himself because he's not going to be around for ever.

I don't think so. With Horton leaving, I think so went the heir apparent. 2017 could be very different.
Robinson tells a story of meeting Lebeau and having to call BB to rave about how chatty he is. Apparently there was some misconception he was very closed off and private or somesuch. The respect is there if Lebeau wants to stay and Mularkey leaves.
I hope the new DC/heir apparent is a former patriot. IMO you can't do better than combining a BB and Lebeau influence.

The thinking is that their backups don't have trade value. I'm not sure that's true. As you can see just from this board, there are people that think Sankey or Cobb could do well elsewhere. I'm not insinuating they have significant trade value but a late pick or a trade of backups or somesuch. Plenty of people on twitter with similar sentiment. Titans writers even have favorites. I think they will get some small token for someone and it'll clear this up.Carter_Can_Fly said:

Whisenhunt was not kind to backs or WRs. His O didn't help either. THAT plus an offseason to really digest the NFL and adjust how you prepare, how you train...Cobb could be much improved. He was a stinker that didn't study the playbook and sat wayyyy too long with a hammy. I'd guess he missed two months with a hammy that wasn't even declared serious by the grade of the tear or anything of that nature. He let the others outwork him, out-hustle and....just was not ready day one. I felt like he grew up though about a week or so into preseason roughly two weeks into TC. Then he got hurt. Later in the season he had to get himself prepared (which is a lot on himself, not relying on others) to play and he did and ended on a high note. So a full offseason of a mature Cobb could be very different.
As far as playing, he did some dopey stuff like being the dumpoff guy and being behind the QB where he couldn't even see him in his peripheral vision.
He was horrible at blitz pickup. In TC, long time coach Sylvester Croom got so upset he came off the sideline to yell at him and ultimately pulled him having 'had enough.' As the season closed, he got in the way. Which was enough. He was in the right spot, knew what to do. That can coach up the blocking technique but him getting there was significant improvement.
Week 17 had some FB and some 3 TE sets. The Titans backs all needed a FB and did unusually well with one, yet they didn't between week 2 and 17. (8% of plays) He did benefit from that and it was an opportunity the other backs didn't get. Thus far, all their old coaching hires, they are expected to use a FB. This should be good for all. I think this will dramatically help Sankey. He averages 5+ with a fullback and without looks like he runs into a wall. Also Sankey's strength is running around the corner. Whis hated this play and rarely ever called it while Curtis Martin, CJ, and sooo many others in NFL history used that play as their bread N butter. Whis wanted toughness and bust thru and....just a bad coach. Anyway Murray and Sankey have this in common. It will most definitely be in their playbook this year. There were some weeks in Dallas where I swear Murray just ran left of the right tackle or right of the right tackle. Two plays. With a RT that can win left or right, this worked for Dallas and looked easy. With CJ, the Titans had a very good RT and blocking TE Stevens and they had some excellent success(2k). Ever since Stewart retired, they have had a big hole there. Next to him is a RG blessed with all the talent in the world and yet extremely erratic production. This is still an issue. This is everything for their rushing offense in 2016. They have landed some interior linemen in FA but we're waiting on the RT.
That will never happen.
The risk of drafting a guy that people say can't play under center or was in a non-pro style offense or every other excuse you can think of with a rook, then followed by wow he is special and his outstanding personality and extremely fast ability to learn and...as much as a team could be, they are in love with the guy.
I'm not sure they'd take a Lew Alcindor whole team trade for him.

Tunsil's pro day was outstanding. It seems like everyone thought so, as such trade rumors began to get a bit heated. My local radio is Dallas Cowboys fans so it's all they had better trade up for their QB. Twitter has them and the same teams.
One radio show I listened to yesterday mentioned NYG falling in love with a QB, needing Eli's replacement around, and unsure if they'd have the nerve to do it. NYJ still need a QB but I don't see many trade articles for them, mostly Fitz or Geno.
Interesting that Florida's pro day was 5-6 days ago. (They have a very good safety) Yesterday, though, was when people started talking about Titans taking Florida's safety in round two.
Today Ramsey has his pro day. I don't think corners and safetys are really tested on coverage during pro days but moreso drills proving that they are top athletes. He should fare very well.
Anxiously awaiting if all the Tunsil article writers write Ramsey articles tonight or how that plays out.

There were 18 players at Ole Miss. Titans took a private jet and a couple Titans scouts and some coaches went. I keep reading 18 but I've been told more like 10.
What I'm not liking is Nick Eason. I'm not seeing his name yesterday or when I go back and look at previous. If he's got some family issues health issue etc, well then fine. However, otherwise, that is Whisenhunt-ish and annoys me. I want Whisenhunt erased not habits carried over.
I do like the idea of Grimm checking out DL prospects, asking Qs and barking out a drill or two. His linemen are the flip-side of the coin, good idea. But where's Eason?
Everyone and their mother checked out Nikemdiche and Bosa and any talent that might even sniff the defensive LOS soooo where's Eason?

I had mentioned how one NFL issue was simply that she doesn't own a home in TN and is required to. Not long after Bud's home, where all the Adams kids grew up, was demolished so she could rebuild. (rebuild quote was from a 'mom realtor' not some news source.) That's in TX. This may seem minor, but it was an estate she demolished.
Kenneth Adams had purchased land for her in TN to build on. to avoid a realtor fee or to mess with his sister or both, he created Pig Pig realty where he is the only registered realtor. She did not buy it from him nor build on it. He did.
If you have a sibling, doesn't the "pig pig realty" make you hmmm something's up? I mean that's just too (something) to ignore

Not that big of a deal. He's projected to be down the depth chart so he wouldn't play til injuries anyway.
He got the WR group together for Mariota's recent workout. Only a couple were to show and he got the rest. He got big props for that.
He was at Carroo's workout and interview.
It doesn't help his case, that's for sure.
It's a shame he and Andrews aren't better. The effort and dedication they consistently display would be oh so welcome in a name player.

The Titans had a movie night for fans and the sprinklers went off in the middle of the movie, by accident. OOPS. Could be just an oops, no big deal but some fans are bitter about it calling it typical poor planning, never heard of Seahawks soaking their fans accidentally and...the over-reaction really categorizes how much thin ice this team is with it's fans.
Today starts offseason workouts. First two weeks are just physical rehab and weight training. Theoretically (on good teams) guys could show up out of shape and work through it after an offseason of rest. I don't think the Titans are anywhere near good enough nor permissive in this regard. Most of the theme discussed is being ready to work and excitement toward a new season.
There's a large number of guys that don't have enough of a handle on their spot that if they show up overweight and out of shape, it might change their draft plans a smidge or merely enforce some thinking.
It's an important day for guys like Turzilli and Fluellen. Time to show yet again, they're extremely hard working guys and set the tone. If any of them become 'regular' they're likely gone then.
I want to read Andrews is in great shape and he and DeMarco are new buddies. Andrews of previous two years would be the perfect backup with the high effort and studying/learning habits. How's he after being a starter and after being replaced in the offseason?
Extremely curious of Sankey and Cobb- would love to read that one showed up looking like an adonis.

As far as all the Titans picks, the guys I trust don't seem to think the Titans will stay still. Robinson has the firepower to move around in the draft and get whom he wants, so they expect him to.

Tunsil trade up doesn't seem to be mentioned much unless it's a Browns article where they hate their pick and give the Titans a sweet deal to have it.(unlikely)

Derrick Henry is now mid-2nd even late 2nd in mocks...still love the guy, haven't changed since he was a 'lock' to be their 2nd round pick. I still think Wright and McCourty's 7 mil contracts could be traded on draft day, also Hunter and Poutasi. The Pats have no first round pick but two late seconds. Solely because Robinson is from there (not anything else) I look at those two as hmmm will something happen with those picks.

Sam Hill is still an unsigned free agent. He did the rounds and...not good for him.
Several times I've heard he could now return. Mike Martin is backup DT, 3rd 4th string depending where ya look. He started over him so if he'll take a small salary, they'd do it.
Team most interested in him is said to be Seahawks, but he visited and left and there's zero articles supporting this so I'm not buying that talk.
