Titans 2018 (1 Viewer)

well that was the new uniform. It was leaked and the NFL is investigating "with authorities"

New Titans unis look sharp.  Like the dark helmet and it will look really good with the light the blue jersey and either blue pants.

The "leak" was kind of close but not it. I'm very curious about the investigation. Is it illegal to claim such a thing? There was a second leak yesterday and I didn't hear of an investigation into that person.

I like em'. I'm not the clothes, stylish kind of guy. Many fans are excited and I'm thinking "nice shirt." Not my thing, but it's good that the Titans get the fans revved up about something.

I thought the concert was a great idea and to make it free was too.

"Practice" starts next week because Vrabel is a new coach.

This isn't totally true. It's weight-lifting and workout stuff. The Titans have had awesome participation in voluntary activities so I expect the # of guys there to be near 90%.

They won't touch the field. Some of the machines will be moved to the practice bubble and spread out so there aren't too many people in one room.

There isn't a rule that they can't go over plays or have meetings about the new offense or defense. It's not expected but there isn't a rule prohibiting this.

The second biggest goal of this is the new staff mingling and meeting the players.

I want JRob to select Baker or Lamar Jackson and then make some announcement that teams are welcome to trade with him.

I think they are marquee talents that will fall because teams don't necessarily need a QB but in any other draft, they'd go early. Without a doubt, they are BPA.

The Bills and Pats have multiple picks in the second round and both need a QB. People seem to forget mid-draft that teams can trade players too. Get a DE or ILB or...whatever ya want. I can't imagine much of a scenario where he can't trade this pick and get a nice return.

Suppose they can't. I don't have an issue with Marcus having a quality backup. How cool would it be for Lamar to come in when/if Marcus gets hurt?

Messing around in mocks. Usually take Lander Esch. Sometimes I take one of the QBs. Somehow I got the wrong team and my replacement selected the top T for the Titans. His logic was that the Titans turn Ts into Gs often and their new offense demands athleticism from the Gs. Mind blown! He's not wrong. Spain was a college T, Marz was, Josh Kline played both right and left tackle before playing LG his senior year, that Bell guy of two years ago. It's an interesting point.

Should the top T be available at 25? No way. Will the Titans ever have a chance to draft the top T again? Hopefully, not.

None of those Gs make much money til they make the roster so it wouldn't do anything to add a G

Vander esch would be a great pick imo.

I'd be okay adding to the o line, but really the top pick should be defense unless a great value drops.

Jordan Matthews and Lance Dunbar have visited the Titans recently. Everyone confirms Matthews but not Dunbar. Dunbar, however, posted himself on social media and was clearly at the unveiling so I'd say yes he visited.

I don't like teams being secretive about veterans they meet with. Saying 90% of the names gives this "openness" vibe.

I didn't know Dunbar was a free agent.

Remember I said Antwaun seems to be regarded as the starter finally? Notice from the visits they aren't even meeting with many NTs.

Cothran is the only one and he's a UDFA projection

I agree with both of you. for short periods of a time each. So you have that going for you ;)

Never heard of him

But competition is good
He's good, just good. Very good tackler for a nose but all the leverage/winning the battle at the point, he's just OK at.

I think Vrabel/Pees will keep two NTs. It was only a Mularkey thing to keep one; there were two for as long as I can recall.

A 4 mil deal for a NT is not stud/star range and probably stung for Logan since it is half of what he made last year. Half AND only signed to a one year deal.

Another side is Schwartz didn't keep him (didn't want him?) and the Titans have long respected his opinion. You haven't seen any Lions or Eagles defenders come to Ten and those teams had big turnover when he got there so there were players readily available.  BTW this is the first offseason I hear nothing of Schwartz and I always do with him living near the brass and spending much of his time in Ten.

I find this super odd and don't like it. We pushed him around as the Titans ran for 202 yards against KC

I won't hold the Titans success against Logan.

I'm not sure how much this stat means but maybe he's worth something "He ranks ninth among defensive lineman over the last five years with 31 tackles for loss on rushing attempts, according to Stats LLC."

He's not going to generate much of a pass rush but he's usually been solid against the run.

To me, that stat shows more about awful play by NTs around the league than good play by him. That's only a tackle for a loss every three games or so. Look at all these guys that are around 1 per game https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/player-stat/defense-tackles-for-loss

First presser, first practice (workout and run)

no attendance taken, working out somewhere, all professionals

Not giving an injury update, not required to

"the most important players are the ones that are here"

Called Logan stout, tough, good guy "compete"

Compton, mentioned experience and play calls, "compete"

Likes to feel the hit from a player at workouts- sometimes you go flying, sometimes it's just a hit. He accidentally busted some prospect's lip and prospects also got him pretty good

shifted a Q about Marcus learning new O to the whole team needs to learn

No rush to teach players (take their time) will run what they know

Enjoyed videos of players getting together and working out

Gave a warning to men and women (reporters) that lockers are private personal space for players

Has talked to Marcus often, discussed his brother at Oregon

mentioned again, locker room is a player's sanctuary this time said he doesn't expect to be in there much

that should clear up anything right away re Compton or Logan. He mentioned they were brought here to compete. Not start, not star, not....

Titans have only privately met (non combine non proday) with two first rounders- Vander Esch and DJ Moore.

Still some time left for visits but, one could really lean toward a trade down scenario with this

As we get closer, going on visit data, Oren Burks seems like a good bet to be a Titan.

He is "the other Vandy ILB" and tested as the best (athletically, scores) ILB at the Combine. His production was solid in college. He is not the coveted player Zach Cunningham was last year.

Remember Vrabel is the guy that coached Cunningham as a rookie and the Titans were often predicted to pick Cunningham and fans really wanted it because he was a stud, local, and a need.

Burks...well the draft guys don't really know where to project him. He's the odd one there. He's listed as anywhere from 4th to UDFA.

Titans met with him twice this year AND one interesting thing was a pic of JRob and Vrabel sitting next to him and chatting with him in the stands last year. If ya need a little more juice, (the guy they admire)Belichick worked out Cunningham last year (and he never does that) and also chatted with Burks.

Tony Pauline has confirmed that the Titans canceled their meeting with Vander Esch saying they don't believe he'll be there when they pick.

That means the Titans have only met with Moore privately.

Including proday+combine- They've met with WR Moore, WR Courtland Sutton, and CB Joshua Jackson.

Sutton is a big big WR (former TE and S in high school, TE as frosh) and Matt Miller loved him last year, calling him better than the 2017 WRs in June http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2712795-courtland-sutton-already-nfl-scouts-favorite-as-top-wr-in-2018-draft-class His view faded some, as happens, when he seemed to dig into him more.

Daniel Jeremiah critiqued his route running and the system for making him NFL ready. Compared him to Mike Evans. This held up pretty good as the others I read either compared him to Evans or Dez Bryant in regards to his size and fight for the ball. I love Evans so...

*************

Joshua (also Josh) Jackson is a CB that has been top-rated CB for a while now. Maybe more importantly he is the ninth rated prospect on CBS and Brugler also calls him top ten. He had a bad 40 time at 4.6-4.7 depending where ya look and a good 40 time at 4.4. He was an excellent HS WR that expected to play WR in college. Here's Zierlein's writeup

STRENGTHS

Had mind-blowing ball-hawking season with 27 passes defensed including eight interceptions. Tall with long arms. Allowed 41.3 percent completion rate. Made a play on 25.7 percent of his targets. Makes his own fortune. Instincts are top-notch. Plays the ball and not the man. Flashed supreme ball skills. High-point winner with ability to pull down the one-hand grab. Put together monster performances in big games. Finished with three interceptions in upset win over Ohio State and two pick-sixes against Wisconsin. Anticipates routes. Allowed no touchdowns after Week 4. Spotlight player. Lauded for positive attitude and strong work ethic.

WEAKNESSES

One-year wonder. Has just 14 career starts. Early opener from press. Needs more experience and more patience. Too easily influenced by release fakes at the line of scrimmage. Can be turned by quality routes. Doesn't flash a big chase burst when he gets behind on the routes (crossers). Needs to tighten up tackling. Questions are being raised about his long speed. Buys into route breaks a little too hard from trail and can be double-moved.

So, deep down, the guy is still a WR which is real interesting. I mean we talk about "my ball mentality" and look at those stats- the guy really sincerely believes it's his ball. That's something, especially for a CB.

Some sites list him as an athlete and call him one of the better athletes and then carry that onto a free safety role in the NFL. Again, my ball mentality and tracks the ball very well. This makes sense too because Lance writes that he falls for nice moves by WRs and (whether they admit it or not) that's commonly one reason to switch a player to FS from CB.

*****************

Moore is a good 6 foot tall WR. As I mentioned earlier, I prefer James Washington as far as 6 foot guys. I usually don't like any. Ya gotta do everything well at 6 feet to even make it in the NFL as a WR. These two do. Washington is a round later and I like the Big 12 as a step to the NFL. I think he went against some real good defensive talent.

Important to note that none of this is what we projected for the Titans- WR or CB/FS

Crossing fingers.

But they're probably right.

Moore isn't really needed but I guess Davis, Moore and Taylor would be a nice group long term.

Vrabel's lukewarm approval? disapproval? quote about Rishard Matthews lack of breakaway speed a few weeks ago now has me stewing a little bit.

I don't ya take a WR with the current roster but I do if they have a pending move.

Sutton's route running issues but OMG physique could very well have teams rating him up N down the first or even second.  Maybe they love Sutton? If a guy ya love falls to you, I have no prob with them taking that player. I've always understood that exception.

I think the six foot guys are the most polished WRs in years. What can't they do? When's the last time a WR was mentioned as a good blocker too. I mean they seem ready to roll but all that for me has one big giant caveat that they are not stars at a star position.

Did you see Steve Smith? He said some NFL teams should cut the whole WR corps, draft Washington and Moore and start over. He raved n raved about them.

Back to Vrabel and Matthews-

If he is looking for the OMG speed the Texans had, Taywan Taylor has that. He was timed at 4.5 and had a 4.3 or 4.2? I forget. It was low enough that everyone questioned until we saw him live then it was like wooh look at him go, OK maybe that time was accurate. Adoree (part time) probably can run a straight deep route as fast as anyone too. I mean I don't know if these two would win a foot race, but I'd have no problem betting on them.

My heads really spinning with "what are they up to?" And for me in mocks, I'm still taking a QB and trading him. It works every time

“Team speed is something that is important,” Vrabel said. “There is an ability, a balance between speed and size and maybe athleticism. But I think we’d always look to make sure we are getting faster at every position to be able to play and compete at this level.

“But I watched Rishard get a screen pass against Seattle, which is a fast defense, and he either ran by them or through them, and scored (on a 55-yard) touchdown. So that is encouraging.”

Wyatt quoted Vrabel saying that.

PK tweeted that CB Jaire Alexander visited the Titans

http://draftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=1003359&draftyear=2018&genpos=cb

My guess is he goes to a team with an extra 2nd round pick. I just don't see him as a first rounder. Being short and thin, injured often, only honorable mention all conference in 2017 versus him being a Top 20 prospect per Brugler. The risk seems to match well with an extra second, I don't agree on the first round grade.

Dez Bryant released by Dallas. Don't want him on any team in the AFC South....
The Texans players are tweeting that they want him and it's wildly rumored that he is going there. He's from OK State and Dallas is the pro team in OK so it is also predictable that fans would start such a rumor..not sure how to take it. He did talk to a few teams right away and the Texans were one of them. He tweeted about facing Dallas twice next year and the Texans play them in preseason and regular season.

The catch that wasn't has Cowboy fans sort of glued to him and with football so enormously popular in Texas, it would be a real smart business decision to go to the Texans. I don't care what his contract is, he'll make a ton of $ in jersey sales. If he goes outside the state, I bet he just sees regular #s if not weak #s.

He's gonna be 30 this season and hasn't had 1000 yards in four years. He's at that odd point where his ego and pride are fighting father time. To play opposite DeAndre would be perfect for him.

The Titans are finally leaning toward LB with visits and time spent with recruits. They had the "local" in state gathering at their facility and there was definitely more interest in LBs. Evans had a visit after Vrabel took an interest in him at his pro day...I'm thankful they're going away from appearing to draft a WR or CB with their first rounder.

Well. I particuarly don't wan't him om the Texans or the Colts because they ought to have a qb that can hit him. That said, the Jags and Titans are bad destinations too

me either. Thankfully twitter reporters have four teams and not the Texans as a likely destination

Pees believes the Ravens will select Vander Esch "without a doubt."

Landry would be good. Evans too.

Ogbo in the second round now according to some. That's intriguing.

The rebuild teams have many second round picks. If a team like the Titans could trade down (still hoping QB late presents this option) into the second, they could oh so perfectly fill holes with 2-3 second rounders. It's got a different vibe when a team amidst a rebuild has all sorts of holes.

The Colts new GM should be a trader like JRob. The Bills and Browns have let the word out that they still want to deal some more. It could be a very interesting first two rounds with an FF feel this year.

I want Van, but Evans would be very welcome. But sure, we'll take a trade down with the right value.

Titans have not contacted Lewan or his agent to discuss contract and he's getting annoyed. It was supposed to be done before the draft. He's hoping it happens this week.

Expected to be 15-20 mil per year!!!!!!!!

The consensus is the Titans will get a top LB/Edge or trade down. For example, one of the players that are "not supposed to be there" or get multiple picks.

This was batted around on NFLN and then another notion- if not the LB, if a team isn't offering a nice nice trade because they want a QB remaining or somesuch, then trade for a first rounder next year. Give JRob an offseason with two firsts (in 2019) to wheel n deal. I'm not against this because this is a weak draft but I think it's perfect for the Titans. What they need falls to them in every mock and it's logical- without the pressing need at RB or T or QB or CB, those positions get picked, so the Titans get what falls to them. I think I'd rather he holds onto the first or trades down than him trading it away for next years.

They only have six picks. A DE (or two), safety, and ILB and OLB seem like how they will go. Also, they seem to have WRs they like that they could draft at the right spot.

JRob is to be on soon with Vrabel but this presser stinks each year.

On the radio he has discussed doubling up which is fun for me because I do in FF drafts. He said they're not adverse to this and can't be- they must be prepared to. The background is that (again, needs of other teams, who falls, and mocks) you'll notice not a whole lot of movement at the positions the Titans need. So, suppose they take the 2nd best G. Look at a mock, the third best or fourth best could be available in round two. 4th ILB in first, fifth or sixth best ILB is available in mocks. Safety is curiously weak and they could actually get the top two or two of the top three. Again, this is my style so this suited me. It's probably not going to happen but I was intrigued that it was brought up and he said he was prepared to.

Backup QB- he said they will bring in a UDFA or two. LaFleur wants arms and it's about the only thing he asked for. (mentioned later, they will bring in a FB or two at Vrabel's request.) They only like a select few QBs and are prepared to draft one and not draft one. He is only drafting the few he likes if they're available at a time he wants them. Gabbert, Ferguson, and whomever else gives him a feel that they are OK for 2018 and this is not pressing.

Vita, he said "everybody loves him, he'll probably go earlier than expects." Not a good year for nose tackles. Doesn't expect to draft one.

Why Vander Esch wouldn't be there- "Pees told him some things" (Assume the Ravens want him, from that)

"Projects" he said again "We're not in the business of developing players. I've said it before." Host...canada something "We added Mehdi, an older player that could play. We want players not projects."

Host- a scout has said Ogbo or Obo is just a guy, it's been reported by many, is this true? I'd like to know who that is. We have questioned our staff and they are not allowed to speak to the media. I can assure you we have a more complex system to scout players than calling him "just a guy."

Host- he was DPOY wasn't he?

Yes? Co? I'm not sure. Every one has tape on him. He is not a sleeper or surprise player. You don't star in a major conference and then NFL teams forget about you on draft day.

Will the Titans select Ogbo?

Nice try

Presser is on now but again, these stink and that radio interview will probably be the best we got

presser

thanking scouts and personnel guys for their work

vrabel and his staff jumped in once they joined the team

thanks to relations team

change in staff and any preferences of new staff, did the board change?

sat down, met, and merged critical factors. Shared vision for the football team. Some changes moved a little. (Not much, in summary)

missed Q

mentions finding value and later round guys and post draft guys (UDFA)

maximize ability(BPA) versus fill holes?

hopefully we can add some guys to make us more competitive....didn't answer Q

Vrabel how has it been

It's been great to meet everyone blah blah, schedule well planned, 45 min to an hour with prospects and position coach meets with player too

diff drafting bottom third, difference?

Make sure we have plenty of food (bad joke) we'll be sitting there a while. Make sure panning out like their mock drafts and plans "if we stay at 25"

like similar player? all on same page?

Yeah, strengths and weaknesses. We watch film together and have dialogue back N forth. Inclusive process

30 visit- guys that's all they know? or guys they wanted to know more of?

Can serve many purposes. Could be medical, could be some Qs, could be background....not just one reason to get them on 30.

All viable picks?

some so, some not. Doing homework, test driving a car analogy

anyone highly unlikely they draft? have fall to you? Lamar Jackson? Mason Rudolph? You met with them

Yeah but that's the thing with the draft. You never know who you are staring at with the pick so ours was exhaustive and talked through a million scenarios

trade scenarios? Guy like Lamar Jackson?

from a trade standpoint, that's depending upon their evaluation of the player and whether they'd offer enough

a number of players interesting in 2nd and not first....long Q

Gotta be 32 guys taken in first whether they have a first round grade or not. Good value in middle rounds. 2-5

Q about revised calendar and meetings

met with them anyway, could have been prob, wasn't

wait too long to meet with prospects?

Vrabel- it's been great to have 65 64 players on our roster and focus on them in the building. Long...focus on guys here and when they leave, focus on guys that aren't (draft and free agency)

not feeling like coach til he can coach followup Q from prior presser

Vrabel- have a clean operation, understand how we'll conduct practice and see the coaches, drills etc...long...looking forward to it

what did ya see this week? Have any bearing on the draft?

JRob- no

OK with six picks?

I love my draft picks. There may be a situation where we bail on 25. It's the value of the picks you get.....working on some data as to trading down.

Calls?

Will field calls when they are on the clock, when not on clock will make calls. Mentioned a team missing out on their player so the Titans could trade up for next to nothing

Guy falling to 25

Ya count players, planning who would fall

Vrabel ever been at draft room?

yes. interesting to watch deshaun trade with phone call and all that ....

When he is calling Jon about a possible trade down- how much is to let team knows interested in trading? how much in sensing opposing teams value?

Manifests to when we're on the clock. If there's a team counting their board and they have to weight the likelihood of those players falling to them....explained draft trades

Q about moving down

Cost of doing business

prior pre draft reports by reporters

mostly untrue. a lot of movement last year once the clock starts, expects same

how important to hit on later rounds

anytime you can get return on those guys...obvious

benefit if there's a run on QBs

if 24 (QBs) would go, that would be awesome (joke) Yes it'd benefit them

Q about untrue reports and his staff putting that out there

There's a lot of smoke n mirrors and smokescreens that get thrown around (heh didn't deny it)

ugh obvious Q

end of day want to improve, doesn't want to pigeonhole a set position

Mike, depth chart this week?

Yeah we'll be able to have something. Find out where they're at. Find out how they practice. Find out where coaches put them....explanation sounds like chart is before they even step on field. Yep said it's before and everyone will get equal reps to better assess.

how should players react to draft?
He watched every draft 14 years. Someone trying to take his job Embrace competition. That's what the game is about. React like a pro, do my job and provide value

how difficult to learn lesson?

IDK, I did it 14 years. It's fundamental to understand that for the players. Competitive as they can for as long as they can. Understand that's how teams get better

Mike, met guys, personality trait looking for?

They have to love ball then evaluate deeper. If they don't love ball, it'll be tough for them to do it day in day out when things get tough. Team culture is best evaluated when a team isn't doing well...competitive, physical, mentally tough, disciplined, talent is at top of the order

how often get a sense

there's times, not a lot, easy evaluation as far as he's concerned

Jon, describe relationship with scouts and adding post draft guys(UDFA)

ffa wild wild west, calls, texts, plan in place to add players

plan with scouts call this guys, that guys

yeah we have a priority list, coaches and scouts call

how important first one that calls?

depends if the line's busy

heh so I'm not the only one intrigued by QBs in first and/or trading because one is available

So cool to have JRob mention that

Vrabel mentions DeShaun trade. JRob answers Q about Rudolph and Lamar leaving open the possibility, never know who is staring you in the face....he could be setting this up well for a trade

Reporters all over him about Lamar after the presser- I knew it, I knew it, I knew it

Doesn't expect him to be there. Absolutely would draft him, one of their top rated players period.

he said trust me, he won't be there. I talk to NFL types, he won't.
