**Titans at Texans**(-7, 38.5) 1:00 (1 Viewer)

The Texans are atrocious.
Marks is playing like he's a workhorse so they should just run him into the ground. Their progress and momentum is stopped when they pass.
It can be like six good runs or dump passes in a row and then "ya know what, let's try a pass."
Texans must have heard you, came out running nearly every play for this first drive but eventually stuffed on a 3rd and 1. And of course, missed FG. although it would have matched Fairbairn's career long if he'd made it I believe.

Down 6-0, at their opponents 45...FG kicker has missed 2 FGs about the 40 yd range and they hand off into the belly of the line on 3rd and 12...WHY?!!!

I need to know why this allowed to go on in the NFL, it's a fireable offense for coaches

Yuck - two big gainers by the Texans wipe out by penalties 1st and 30. Then dropped for a loss of 3

But then Nico gets loose past Snead for a 1st down on 2nd and 33!!!

They looked good that drive and the penalties almost gave them more chances to look good.

This is the typical second half collapse.
I sure hope I'm wrong but it looks the same

Ahh, but on the very next play Cam side arms it and off the hands of Elic into Stingley's arms. Edit: Behind Elic and threw a rocket, wouldn't really put that on Elic

I like that Ayo planted and reached back for that. Nice body control and rapport.
Them two with the low (high) five seconds later gives me good vibes too.

I'm not hating that INT

Kirk's whole career has had people all excited over meh catches. I've never understood.
Good play good play but what's with the dude on the sideline and him pointing first down n all.

Never forget that Bud Adams moved the team from Houston to Nashville. There were a few tax votes for a stadium and they were voted down each time. No one wants to relive that part of the history. Titans say they wanted to stay. Texans say they were happy as is. For me, that's enough. It presents a conflict and no resolution so the team moved. It paints a picture, move on, better days ahead for each etc. Someone inevitably stirs the pot or a uniform stirs the pot and people's buttons get pushed. So far there's been none of that this week so it probably happens for the next game.

Bud's children have not been treated well/"well received" in Houston. The outside world sees it as "yeah you moved the team" but they see it as the place where they grew up and they were hugely generous with their money and lots of friends there and ...they're bitter.

More often than not, over the last eight years, a significant firing has come after a game between these two. This pattern- this intangible thing- is the biggest pot stirrer in sports today.

I think it was Josina Anderson- she had reports that there is something going on behind the scenes in the Texans organization.

The Titans had a rumor the coach would be fired but instead they had a meeting during which he gave up play calling. He said he gave up "design" too but also said he would be involved in "design." The guy who developed Joe Burrow and came from one of the best offenses in the NFL when he was hired (that has one of the best OL coaches for a father) essentially gave up what the public was told he was hired for.

Dead man walking, he's doing what the public doesn't usually discuss. He's managing and running practice etc.

He's also gotten very very involved with the defense.

Pause. Denard Wilson is a HC in waiting, up n comer type. Since coming from the Ravens, he has been a magician at getting the most out of players- even if it has to be UDFAs and late round players. The Titans led the NFL in lowest yards allowed much of last year and finished second despite a putrid team. He is often on the list as Callahan's potential replacement and yet he was his pick to be DC.

So Cally working with defense and there has been so much "what just happened" and they played absolutely awful last week. Tvondre Sweat told reporters he was playing and was put on IR three days later. Their best CB was traded for a sandwich to the Jets. Coach called out the defense for poor tackling and singled out James Williams. He didn't even take a snap and was inactive. Armour Davis was a CB they got from the Ravens and a supposed good one off the WW. Coach explained how he was pulled from the game on Monday and on Wednesday said he thinks he will continue to play well in Brownlee's place. The hypocrisy and almost destruction stirs a pot of conspiracy theories.

Originally there was a site that you could bet which game Cally would be fired. It went to you'd lose $ if you selected a Texans game or Vrabel game to then being removed to where people can't bet on that.

There is considerable expectation that Callahan could be fired after this. If they play as awful as they did last week, it's hard to imagine him keeping his job.

Derrick Henry ran all over the Texans and for a while had 200 yard games. The Texans didn't like that. Yeah running with a lead but be a good sport and pull the HOF back. Sooo all of above, plus they are 0-3 and looking for a turnaround game....they could try and score 100 this week and we could all be wishing the Titans bench Ward so they don't hurt him.

This lobbing a slow pitch to a rival could be sooo ugly as they smash it out of the park.

The Titans could play decent and Texans poorly and we're looking at two of the lesser teams. That feels so improbable. The Texans OL has issues but the Titans are the lowest ranked in most pass rush categories. They'll need a few guys to block Big Jeff and then Stroud should be able to set up a table and have a picnic lunch before passing the ball.

The Texans need to be careful about fines and having some class. All this juice sometimes brings out inappropriate behavior. It would be dumb to tarnish Demeco's reputation or to get suspended in a blowout.

For FF, I would watch the Texans "get healthy" and who they incorporate and how often. There's some likelihood there's a new main RB or key WR established or maybe they incorporate the TE moreso and ...I'd watch how they turn it around. It could be a sign of things to come for the rest of the season.
Thank You for the history lesson, I sometimes forget when Earl Campbell, Warren Moon and Haywood Jeffries all wore Oilers jerseys in different eras.
Good stuff

Good post Bri! Most of my football memories as a kid are from that Oilers era. My Grandfather was good friends with the GM (Mike Holovak) so we got access to the team facilities during practices, etc. Young Major has pics sitting on Earl's lap in the locker room and memories of shooting hoops with Haywood in High School. I remember Warren Moon was kind of a jerk so I avoided him lol.

Wow. 3rd and 17 and they dump to Marks and he gets the 1st with a couple of good blocks out front.

And then busts a 2nd TD!

I love Earl.
I've met him numerous times at places like strip malls, book stores, and a high school game.
He's so sweet and open to chatting. I've recommended people try it too and everyone has the same experience.
I think every Texans/Oilers fan should consider a trip to Tyler. I guarantee you'll be amazed at the quality of HS football and marvel at how many pros went there THEN realize they're not even the top team in Texas.

It's such a cool experience and so simple- ya go to a Tyler HS game.

The school has a little setup for Earl and a couple kids get him drinks or push his wheelchair if need be. You can always call the school to verify too.

Bonus- if ya tell him how far you came, he'll probably hug ya.

He really is the Tyler Rose

I say "that Mahomes guy isn't any good" and he laughs and says "you again? How ya doing Brian"

(He is from Tyler too and people never mention Earl's influence on the best QB)

C'mon defense - let's pitch the shutout. I could use the bonus points in fantasy where I have the Texans as my Def in multiple leagues.

Yeah he was a gentle giant. I remember how beat up he'd be after practices and games where he could barely move but whenever I'd see him he'd greet me with warmth, hugs and hi fives. 6 year old Major thought he was the coolest guy in the world. That man sacrificed so much for the game. It hurts to see him so hobbled later in life but love that he still pushes on and built a successful sausage empire off the field.

Callahan looks so angry about the ST penalty. He's benched (inactive) a guy each week for a ST penalty. Harrell maybe sits next week now.

Such a poor management technique. They overpaid to get an old famous ST coach. Let him deal with it.

I don't think so. He looks average to poor. Maybe it goes to his kids? Idk. Some of the low level events he attends gives me pause too.

I think Henry gives him money. Whenever he visits, Earl seems better off

Edit, sorry two things at once-

Absolutely a gentle giant that gave to the game and all.

I don't think he gets much from the sausage

See Demeco didn't much care for Callahan but Denard, that's my boy vibe.

I think Denard has a real good chance to be the next HC

Marks on my bench in multiple leagues of course. Definitely would not have predicted that explosion today. Thought Chubb would be the one having a good day

Titans WRs Snaps + Routes👀
Elic Ayomanor: 80% snap + 23 routes
Tyler Lockett: 73% snap + 24 routes
Calvin Ridley: 54% snap + 12 routes
Van Jefferson: 41% snap + 11 routes

*****
Laquan posted that.
Dike with a goose egg. Elic and Ridley two catches. Elic's only in first half. Everyone else with one catch.

This is why I can't drop the concept of playing at least a couple of the firey backups or Van more.

What's the risk? A single catch? They can't accept that production and have to change.

Lockett with zero catches and that much usage.
Sorry, I appreciate ya, but hang those cleats and jersey over there

To be fair, it should be mentioned that a big part of the reason the tax votes kept getting voted down is the city had already just paid for a stadium renovation for the Oilers, but then Bud wanted a new stadium. And at the same time the Rockets were needing a new arena, and the Astros increasingly needed something designed for baseball.

Where is my guy Greg R

Was at the stadium. Gave my tickets to my honorary nephew and his new bride, and then a couple who have sat near me for two decades heard and sent me their extra ticket. So was too busy chatting up to get on the internet much.

Rough game for you guys, GB. I think Ward can be good, but I have to say his side arm passes made me wince. Felt like his accuracy suffered a lot with them.

Sounds wonderful

He's blessed.
There's no doubt. He zips a ball here, makes me think how did he get it there, looks effortless on the deep ones, so super calm n relaxed and to top it off he's a good boy.

Yeah the NFL will make him a man and he'll take his lumps but whew what a nice starting pile of clay to mold.

He does sidearm when he's under pressure. He broke Carr's record for sacks today or tied it or somesuch. I'm sure you remember or understand my "yeah whatever, survive kid" thoughts I have.

He can be young Favre like and idk if ya coach that out of him or just let it work itself out with WR QB personal discussions and rapport. But yeah he scrambles or is under pressure and he shoots bullets and probably broke Elic Sharpe's finger today.

Al Shaaiir should be suspended for next game from social media vibes. History + face hit of Cam. I don't know. I don't track lengths of that stuff or fine amounts.

My mind wandered to we gave you a couple real good defensive players and you gave us a guard we cut, a washed up gem WR, and an awful OC. Vrabel really thought they were all good. Ooof
