Titans IDPs (2 Viewers)

Any idea what the story is with Jerome Baker last Sunday? The snap count shows him on the field for 100% of defensive plays, yet he did nothing statistically.
No he hasn't played.
I've mentioned him a few times.
Darrell Baker Jr is a CB they scooped up off the WW and he's done just fine with very little praise. That's probably the Baker you see.
Callahan said Gibbens is playing so well that Baker hasn't played. This is not true whatsoever. It's a definite weak spot. Josh Allen attacked Gibbens spot right away when he came in for Jones on a brief injury just before the trade. Then Detroit did all game. The Pats weren't wise enough to keep doing it but when they did they got completions.
He's a heady player but slowish and offenses can easily get a quick pass to the TE or slot. He should be benched.
Gifford isn't dissimilar but he's long past starting and does the roster/practice squad dance.

Still waiting for a coach quote that James Williams will play D to be true. With neither playing D we don't know if Baker is above "camp star" Williams or last year's "camp star" Otis Reese.
****
With Diggs out for the year. Brown is supposedly replacing him. He's questionable. I'd expect they sign someone.

There's a lot of quotes from the last two summers that Williams and Otis (college safeties) will not move back to safety.

With Adams long gone and now Diggs, there seems to be a ripeness for something to change. We'll probably hear something at Wilson's Wednesday presser.
****"
Simmons has his leg in some apparatus on the sideline. I missed it but saw a few tweets. Maybe one of those pressure things? He had a great game. I'm expecting he rests some and practices late in the week.
Sweat played 44 percent of snaps. I thought he'd sit. There's no secret no sure way to get rookies past the wall. His bod is definitely hurting him. IIRC he's got hip, ankle, knee, and shoulder soreness. Announcers have him 370-380 pounds. It's simply a different bod than usual and ...idk what but they've gotta help the rookie get some routine (like Kirk Cousins in Netflix show) to help his bod recover.

No snaps for Baker
I've been dead on right on that trade and it frustrates me.

Titans giving up 38 yards per kickoff should probably be considered with your IDP thoughts. Not to shift to ST in this forum, it's just OMG awful and impacts # of plays and yards

Mike Brown is a meh backup.
I'm guessing Edwards starts but has to get acclimated
I had a feeling this might be the case. Thanks
Brown was singled out as playing well.
PFF disagrees.

I thought the secondary was phenomenal. When have you ever seen a QB throw to his WRs that little?

Awuzie is close per Monday presser. We'll find out as the week goes on just what that means

Brownlee to cover Jefferson.

Fifth round rookie shows up very nicely on everyone's charts on Twitter and is playing great. Now he gets the biggest test.

Some questioning Snead's commitment like fake injury or too long or somesuch this past week. Coaches were all over this explaining how great he's been and rehabbing and helping those he can in the film room etc

Brownlee explained that Snead has helped him a ton and he is always checking on him personally or in game.

Callahan not really interested in replacing Gibbens with Baker
Gibbens is out (injured) for the rest of the year, & Baker replaced him. Did he look good, and do you expect him to be a full time starter going forward?
I did not think he looked good.
He reacted late. Often.
He blitzed well a couple times. Coverage was good n bad.
It could be he's not comfy in the new defense.

I'm so past waiting to see James Williams as are most Titans fans.
Otis got hurt. I don't recall what. Have to wait for Wednesday update.
Gifford was on the PS and is still on the roster. He has starter experience.

Baker and Gifford are meh. No one knows what the real problem is with Gray. There's a reason they were in no rush to play them.

Williams was outstanding this summer and he's got almost no work on D.

Hoping for a Wednesday update on this but we'll see. They'll probably be coy

This sub would be so awesome if we had 31 other posters covering teams like this.

From what I read Baker was out snapping Gibbens before the injury , despite having not generated in support in the previous weeks.
I actually cut Baker in one league on sunday morning which has bitten me.
James Williams must be due some kind of a shot?
Deep down I am hoping the give Cedric Gray a run - but as above I dont think we will know until during the game.

Jarvis Brownlee Jr. said he talked to Justin Jefferson both during and after the game. Jefferson told him he's going to be a star in the league.

What a compliment for the fifth round pick that would probably be on the bench behind two probowl players. Such a pleasant surprise this year

I didn't notice if he had more snaps before Gibbens went out. Idk where you read that but from my context, being traded and not playing for weeks is considerably negative.

As I said earlier, they had a good visit and were interested in signing him this offseason but things fell apart badly. All I've heard is rumors as to why- whether it be him or his agent.

They're so deep at ILB it's illogical to even have this many starters for two positions. Chance Campbell blew up this summer and was fantastic until he got hurt. Jones, Baker, Murray, Gray, Gibbens, Gifford, Campbell, and Reese have all started in the NFL. Eight(9-trade) ILBs? Then the young buck Williams who did run with the ones some this summer.

I'm not saying they're all great or anything but I think not trading more was a huge oversight by the GM. Did you see the rest of the roster? They need help! And when special teams plays and stinks- umm you have a warehouse of ILBs that are athletic known good tacklers, can't you put them in? This is a game day prob, a roster prob, it's just plain odd.

The Texans should whoop em and end their hope but for now they feel they should have beaten the Vikings and people point out they have a 1 percent chance at the playoffs. Ugh.

Supposing the Texans win- I think they'll care more about seeing Gray and Williams than Baker but it'll be some mishmash of usage that IDP people hate.

Baker may play a lot this week and if they win and have hope for another week, maybe you get another start for his stats. When that bottom falls out, I'll be thinking just like above with Gray and Williams.

I know injuries and desperation force your hand and there's a ton of byes these three weeks but make Baker's roster spot on your FF team tentative and keep an eye out. It doesn't at all seem secure

Snead is going on IR.
It's not healing well with PT and treatment and they've decided what's best for him is rest.
That's a tough blow for him.

Callahan said they won't rule out his return near the end of the season. I'd plan on it. CBs are a different sort. They have to believe they can smother anyone and we've all seen many careers dwindle once their confidence is shaken. A game or two to shake the rust off and head into the off-season with the usual swagger is sooo much better than not

Sweat was better two weeks ago and seemed more himself last week. Whatever they're doing for the big fella and the rookie wall is working.

Awuzie should start his 21 day window next week.
(Fifth round)Brownlee has only allowed 263 yards in 7 starts over ten games.
(UDFA Cards then Pack then Colts) Baker has only allowed 59 yards in five starts over seven games. I too debate 59 but and think it's more like 180-200 but I love me some PFR.
Their CB play has been elite.
Sweat and Brownlee both belong on defensive rookie of the year lists. Idk if they win or... but they belong on the list

I can't say enough about Chris Harris. I keep getting asked who I think will be traded (idk Snead or Awuzie) this off-season and my head is firmly on that Harris somehow seems unaffected by who is playing at CB and simply has them performing great.

Amani Hooker is questionable with the flu.
I'm seeing reporters tweet this in the last fifteen minutes
Headsup IDP people

Daryl Worley is expected to be Hooker's replacement if so. I got nothing but reporters gabbing

Well I missed the Hooker news which sucks. How did the game play out.

I see 2T for Baker which doesnt inspire any higher confidence than I had last week for him.

Cedric Gray 1T - was that on DEF or ST ?

I didn't notice Gray.
Baker CB played well.
Baker ILB took every snap I believe. He should have had a day. When Sweat and Simmons dominated the LOS, Jones was almost gifted stats as his job became so easy.
In his defense, the Texans recognized their deficiency and didn't at all run Mixon like they usually do. There were long stretches where I wondered when his last carry was.

The Titans were playing their backup safety and practice squad safety. The Texans made a cheap shot hit on the PS safety and he was out for two series. Next, Nico went deep, Brownlee ran with him and pulled up like he's passing him off to a safety but no one was there. The sub was a special teams player and the Texans went after him from that point on til the safety Worley returned. Credit to him- he overcame, manned up, toughed it out, and played well when he returned. This too was unusual and ILB Baker would have little he could do with this.

My problem with ILBs is always elementary. If they're good, they're everywhere and quite noticable. If they're not...

Callahan said Awuzie is not guaranteed a starting spot when he returns. He'll have to see. Baker and Brownlee have earned their keep and he'll have to see how it goes.

I can't say enough of Chris Harris secondary coach.
They're the top passing defense and down four probowlers- starting a waiver wire pickup, fifth rounder, UDFA on his third team, and a practice squad guy. That has to be an all time great coaching job for a positional coach.
If he doesn't get offered a DC job this off-season then the NFL should blow up their whole hiring process. Time playing time coaching reputation results...what more could a candidate need?

That was an atrocious defensive performance and everything was just so uncharacteristic of their season and/or their players.

Idk why they went zone so much and the guess is that Callahan told Denard to do so. Many have this guess but there is no confirmation whatsoever. Denard loves having his corners playing man and pressing and...they'll play zone but it's more often obviously needed like something anyone would do on Madden or somesuch.

There were a few times the DB had two players and it was just him there. McLaurin was left uncovered a few times.

Big Jeff and Sweat for bullied. Never seen that and may never again. Kudos to Washington's OL.

On two TDs, Hooker was at the LOS and brushed aside like he's nothing. It was as if the Commanders knew something the league didn't and it's a bit of a concern. He can't be pretending he's Polamalu (or Adams in Wilson's scheme) if he can't mix it up.

Every video reviewer seems to have shown the same thing- Baker was bad. He's clearly having coaches showing him something and other times waving at him and ...he got worse. So the Commanders ran for 200+ yards and the DL is losing its fight but certainly occupying the OL and...he didn't swoop in and make the tackles he was well setup for.
DBs were cheating towards the middle and that's not the best idea.
I was continually unhappy with the camera work and can't see this n that that I usually can.
I believe Gifford went in for Baker(late) and yes people had issues with it- why not Williams or Otis? Well I think I can see it. They need a plugger and the line is getting bullied. A converted safety is probably not the best sub when that's happening. Gifford is slower, no doubt, but he's going to get there and hold his own and make a tackle. I think I'd go with the bigger guy temporarily too.
Murray got hurt and I think Baker came back.

With the big lead, they sat Robinson they even sat McNichols and let their recently re-signed Rodriguez carry the rock and he nearly got 100.

I am guessing this is the prerequisite to a change at ILB.

Prior notes of Baker and Gray....
Baker- why not cut him if they have depth and he's not doing well and they didn't even play him for weeks after the trade.
Gray- again idk if the GM looks better or worse if he plays significantly at this point.
Fans are all over calling for Williams.

Another- whatever Hooker is doing in goalline defense at the LOS, can't one of the converted safeties do that?

Oh and Mike Brown clearly got demoted as last week's PS guy Worley played most of the snaps.

Here's the ILB ones-
Baker 90 percent
Gifford 9 and Otis 7 snaps

Callahan said blame is on the linebackers but it was a we problem. The whole team and the staff. Went on about each position then came back to LBs not "gapping where they've gotta gap" and lots of coach speak about gaps- then puts blame on himself.

Y'all can listen but I hear ILB ILB ILB
