TJ Ward in the game? (1 Viewer)

Bump. Between the injury and the 'rookie wall,' Ward has had a rough few weeks with the exception of the Jags game. Elam seems to be getting all the points back there.

Has he hit the wall and is it time to stop riding him?
Here are a few possibilities and to be fair his dwindling production is probably a combination of the following:- As you stated and what happens to many rookies is they hit the Rookie Wall Right about this time many rookies run smack dab into the Rookie Wall this time of their first season- Rookie CB Joe HadenJoe took a bit of time to get increased playing time but he's started the last two games and he's coming off of his best game yet. He was named rookie of the month for November only a few days ago and is on a hot streak of having FOUR INCERCEPTIONS in his last four games. No other Brown has ever done that his rookie season and I'm not sure how many have in NFL history. Yesterday he had his best game of his career and looked dominating with 4 solos, 1 inception, and 4 passes defensed. He has to be mentioned as a serious contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year. So he's stealing tackles on his own and by creating turnovers he's taking the defense off the field further taking away opportunities from Ward.*******IDP SLEEPER ALERT!!!!!!!- FS Abraham Elam coming on strong as of lateIf you haven't heard of Elam or aren't aware of what he's done lately then you'd best grab him is he's available in your league. Ever since the Browns got off their bye five weeks ago Elam has, 28 solos, 4 assists, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery (for a TD on a strip that he made), 2 interceptions, and 4 passes defensed. He was flying under radar of Ward but lately he's surpassed him so if you have soured on Ward then grab Elam before someone else does. He's on FIRE.Add in the mad production of Joe Haden and Abe Elam and I'll also say that the other starting CB Sheldon Brown has also been highly productive as well so the opportunities just aren't there for TJ right now right about the time he could be hitting the rookie wall.Oh and he was heavily fined for an overly aggressive hit on Bengals Rookie WR Jordan Shipley so he seemed to loose a bit of his hard-hitting edge after that fine because it came a week before Rodger Gooddell came down hard on other defensive players. It appeared that TJ's stats took a dip immediately after that episode but check out the stats of the other safeties who were posting uber-IDP stats early in the year and you'll see that, Chung, Landry, and others who started hot have cooled so it may also have something to do with a high level of early season contact. You're right in that TJ's production has taken a dip but the cause could be many factors. I will point out he's gotten much better in pass defense so its possible that Browns DC Rob Ryan has noticed that and that Haden is a big CB as is Shel Brown and Abe Elam is a huge hard hitting safey who can make plays so Ryan may also be mixing things up. Lately the Browns secondary has had a HUGE upswing in creating turnovers so Ryan is doing something and he may have found a way to use Ward more effectively to confuse opposing QBs. Not good for Ward owners but good football useage. So pick up Elam if you need someone and kick the tires on Joe Haden if either are available.

One thing to consider for this weekend's game played in Buffalo.Check the weather forecast because they are getting burried with snow.If this game is played in a blizzard it might significantly change the gameplan of both clubs and possibly could sway the production of Elam.I have both Elam and the Buffalo safety, Whitner. Donte is listed as questionable so I'm sitting him this week but I'm riding Elam.I'm just not sure what to expect if the game is played in a blizzard.

Why is Whitner listed as questionable? I haven't seen anything on the injury reports.
He was but its not looking that bad.Per Roto World Donte Whitner | S | BUF Whitner (knee) was limited at Thursday's practice, the Bills' official site reports.Spin: That said, coach Chan Gailey noted that Whitner had a good practice Thursday, which bodes well for the safety's Week 14 availability. Whitner's total of 111 tackles is good for a fourth place tie in the NFL with teammate Paul Posluszny.

I didn't exactly drop Ward, but am benching him and Chung in favor of Weddle and Godfrey this week.

Is there any other dead weight you can lose?

I guess the rookie wall has crumbled!!!
Actually I think a new island has formed in the ocean of NFL cornerbacks.HADEN ISLAND!After Chad Henne tried to throw at the rookie last week and Joe came away with his fourth INT in four games, along with a slew of tackles and passes defensed, the Bills wised-up and only threw at Joe one-time yesterday and Haden batted the ball away. Ofcourse that was after the Browns other starting corner, Sheldon Brown went down with an injury early in the game and they had to put in terrible CB Eric Wright and cover-safety Mike Adams in to cover for Sheldon Brown. The shuffling forced FS Abe Elam back into coverage and then TJ was allowed to move back up into the box, where he played earlier in the year. If Shel Brown is back next week then things may return to normal but the Bengals and the next opponet of the Browns, the Ravens, both have stud TEs and legitimately are three/four deep at the wideout position so I'm not sure what Rob Ryan will concoct to defense those alignments.Yesterday TJ returned to his early-season big production but that might have been due to a shuffling of the DBs during the game. He obviously is capable of posting huge tackle numbers but the Browns DC, Rob Ryan, seemed to be using TJ differently and the mix was working pretty well so I would imagine once Sheldon Brown checks out that TJ's numbers might drift back down to normal range but I'm not sure what Rob Ryan has planned for the next two weeks.

 Very nice Bracie, thank you for the insight.I feel dirty for benching him this week in favor of Godfrey, who was invisible the whole game.
