*Not really a bail bondsman
October 14, 1912, Milwaukee:
While campaigning for a 3rd term as President (non-consecutive), Theodore Roosevelt is shot in the chest by wackjob John Flammang Schrank*. Fortunately for Teddy the bullet hits the steel eyeglass case and the 50 page speech he as in his jacket pocket.
The slug penetrates Roosevelt's chest but not far enough to enter his lungs (an avid hunter, Roosevelt decides since he isn't hacking up blood he must be OK).
Teddy proceeds to give a 90 minute speech while he bleeds into his shirt. Afterward, Teddy is examined by doctors who decide that trying to remove the bullet would be too risky. Roosevelt walked around with the bullet lodged in his chest for the rest of his life. He claimed something to the effect of "It doesn't bother me. It might as well be in my watch-pocket."
*Schrank claimed he shot Roosevelt because the ghost of William McKinley told him to do it.
