I was just looking at your Dynasty TE rankings and don't see him listed, is he really not in your top 43 TE's? I see both Baltimore Rookie TE's listed nothing on Heap.

I'm not defending, just thinking here. For dynasty leagues, there are two questions to be asked. The first is "Does he have value now? Can he help me?". The second is "Does he have value going forward?". I suspect for a lot of teams the answer to both of those question might be no.Last year, he was OK it stretches, but no great shakes. He ended up with 6 TDs, but 4 of them were in 2 games late in the season, when most teams had probably already given up on him. He was not a good starter in general despite having been relatively healthy all season (for the first time in a long time). So that doesn't leave much in terms of value right now unless you are desperate for a backup or something.Which leads us to future value which is even less. The team used TWO relatively high picks on TE for a reason. They are moving on, way way or the other. His contract ends next year, but quite honestly I'm not sure he'll see that $4.6M in 2011. There won't be much of a cap hit (if there is a cap) to cut him a year early, and his 2011 salary is the highest of his (pretty big at the time) deal.So all in all, his value is basically nill for dynasty purposes. Might be worth hanging on to as a backup on a good team, but other than that, I'd "rank" him very very low.

 With no plans for him in Balt., what is his value elsewhere?

I guess the better question is which one of the rookie TE's is the one to own....Dickson or Pitta? Or do you stay away this year and see how it shakes out? I still think Heap will see a lot of time this year if he can stay healthy.

I believe Baltimore will cut Heap before the season starts.

They are not going into this season (a championship run no doubt) with 2 rookies at TE. Heap is going to start. Next season...yeah I can see him gone. But not this year. They are going for Super Bowl right now.

Agreed. Neither of the rooks is really known as a blocker, so Heap is still the guy this year until they see what they have. He may get spelled more than usual if the rookies develop quickly and they may eat into his already spotty receiving opportunities, but I don't think the team can dump him quite yet.

I actually see a loy of value in Heap as a one year filler this year. I believe there was a lot of talk that his receptions were down because he was being asked to stay in and block more early last year but he seemed to come on later in the season and Flacoo was finding him. I think he can be a very solid backup TE for 2010 and based on the rankings should be very cheap.

That could be true, but the OP's question concerned dynasty rankings. Even if a guy IS a "solid backup TE" for one year, he doesn't have much if any dynasty league value. In redrafts, "solid backup" TEs have some value, in dynasty, not so much. Those spots are going to be filled with prospects more often than not. The cost of using a roster spot on a guy who you know has very limited value going forward isn't worth what you're likely to get in return.

This seems like a bad idea. I would think that Flacco would like to have Heap there.
Not if both TEs they drafted are better than Heap, which I believe they are. All Heap will do is slow their development.

They MAY be better receivers (though that's asking a lot of a rookie), but blocking matters too (maybe more for a team like Baltimore), and like I said before neither of those guys are known for blocking at all.I think Heap is done as a long-term option (injuries saw to that), but he's still a former 1st round pick and pro-bowler who signed the most lucrative TE contract in history 5 years ago. He's not going to be holding anyone back, he should help their development considerably this year. There is a lot to learn from a guy like Heap.I will be utterly shocked if Baltimore cans Heap before the season starts.

Agreed, no way Heap gets cut this year, even if they are planning on throwing more they still need his veteran leadership to help the 2 rookies and his blocking.

I wouldn't be surprised if Heap has a better year than he did last year, all I have heard so far is that he is in the best shape he has been in, in a long time and he is fully healthy (for now).

One of the better pass catching TEs of the '00-'09 decade and he finally has a stable of loaded WRs to draw coverage away from him. Heap is gonna be 1 on 1 with a LB most of the time this year.

No way will Baltimore cut Heapo, that's just silly whoever is posting that(JohnnyU-Balt Bias from being a long time Colts fan)

Heap is not as old as some think, maybe 30-31 yrs old which for TE is OK

He has value, maybe not a lot long term but he has a decent chance to crack the top12 this year and for where you can draft him, he's a n ideal TE2 in almost any format. In my BB dyansty league 2PPRTE, I have Heath Miller-TE1, Heap-TE2, and Ben Watson-TE3..I am very comfortable right now going into the season. I feel at least 1 of them should be solid every week.

But I'm glad there are folks overlooking him again.

Sorry, but Heap has no chance of being a TE1 (top12) when you take into account his constant injuries, addition of Boldin and 2 talented rookie TEs eating into his targets.

It will be interesting to see how people view his career in 10 years. He came in a year after they won the Super Bowl, and while he was a 2 time Pro Bowler, he seemed to always leave you wanting due to his health. In the end, when guys like Shockey, Gates, Clark, Gonzo and Witten wind down their careers (you can make an arguement based on length of TE careers that all will be out of the league in three years), Heap may be forgotten about like Mark Chumura was in the 90s. Had Heap entered in the league in 1991 instead of 2001, he would have been a step down from Sharpe and Coates. He just came around at a tough time.
