Tombstone (1 Viewer)

One of the greatest flicks ever. It's one of those movies that when you plop down on the couch on a rainy Saturday afternoon you are just giddy to scroll past.

GB this.

Recorded this from HBO2 overnight. Looking forward to it.

I love all of Eastwood's westerns so I assume this one will be in the same ballpark.

OMG you're going to love it! Eastwood was so underrated in this one. So subtle he really blends in to the background, almost like he's not even there.

I missed the part where I said Eastwood was in this.
I missed the part where Eastwood's westerns have anything do with the price of tea in China as it relates to Tombstone.

Allow me to clarify, since this is obviously so fascniating....

The ONLY westerns I have EVER sat through had Eastwood in them. Hoping this one is in the same ballpark, EVEN THOUGH EASTWOOD ISN'T IN IT.

Great film. Open range, no country, in forgiven and tombstone are the best westerns of the last 30 years.

Agree here. All great flicks.

Tombstone in retrospect is annoying because of Kurt Russel, but Kilmer is good enough in it to make the movie.

You're just not going to let that one go. It ain't a "Western". It took place in the 80's!

eta: For me, Tombstone was mediocre at best as a Western. It doesn't compare to any of the old Eastwood Westerns. Except for Kilmer, it was only good back when I was in highschool.

"Western" indicates a certain era?
Yes, for the most part.
So it's impossible for a filmmaker to shoot a "western" tomorrow?
No, it's not. If it isn't set in the 1800's, it would be, though. By most accounts, that's what a Western is about. I know what you're getting at, though. We have had this conversation before, somewhere on here. The characters themselves and the plot can't just make it a "Western". The time period and setting are the main factors that put it in that genre, at least that's how I think most people see it, including myself.

eta: I'll leave that argument alone. It's been had before on here. I don't get it.

Wyatt Earp is good, too.
I don't think I ever saw that one.
It's good. Check it out.
3 hours long and it has bad ratings? I'm not sure I could get myself to sit through something that long if it drags much. But I thought No Country sucked, so what do I know.

Westerns are defined by the story and the struggle of the characters. They include a sense of morality that ties in to the ultimate victory or success of the protaganist. No country is a western. Deal with it.

It's an ok movie, not great. It came out about the same time as Tombstone and wasn't as good so it got panned somewhat.

I refuse to accept that.
