If there’s one political power that Trump has above all others, it’s to influence primary results within red states. In fact, he is arguably the most effective guy at doing this in the entire history of the GOP. 

So if Trump says it’s going to be Tuberville, it’s going to be Tuberville.

Tuberville already had it in the bag.  I have a family member in the state Senate and word was that Sessions had promised Byrne, John Merrill (who dropped out), and various others he wasn't running for the seat.  There's a lot of hurt feelings over that.  Byrne has been on the record with some of it.  All of that is part of it and the whole dust up with Sessions and Trump over his time as the AG is the other piece.
